1 « A tale spettacolo il mio cuore trema e balza fuori dal suo posto.

Also, at this my heart trembleth, And it moveth from its place.

2 U dite, udite il fragore della sua voce, il rombo che esce dalla sua bocca!

Hearken diligently to the trembling of His voice, Yea, the sound from His mouth goeth forth.

3 E gli lo lancia sotto tutti i cieli e il suo lampo guizza fino alle estremità della terra.

Under the whole heavens He directeth it, And its light over the skirts of the earth.

4 D opo il lampo, una voce rugge; egli tuona con la sua voce maestosa; quando si ode la voce, il fulmine non è già più nella sua mano.

After it roar doth a voice -- He thundereth with the voice of His excellency, And He doth not hold them back, When His voice is heard.

5 D io tuona con la sua voce in modo prodigioso; grandi cose egli fa che noi non comprendiamo.

God thundereth with His voice wonderfully, Doing great things and we know not.

6 D ice alla neve: “Cadi sulla terra!” Lo dice alla pioggia, alla pioggia torrenziale.

For to snow He saith, `Be the earth.' And the small rain and great rain of His power.

7 R ende inerte ogni mano d’uomo, perché tutti i mortali, che sono opera sua, imparino a conoscerlo.

Into the hand of every man he sealeth, For the knowledge by all men of His work.

8 L e bestie selvagge vanno nel covo e stanno accovacciate entro le tane.

And enter doth the beast into covert, And in its habitations it doth continue.

9 D al sud viene l’uragano, il freddo viene dal nord.

From the inner chamber cometh a hurricane, And from scatterings winds -- cold,

10 A l soffio di Dio si forma il ghiaccio e si contrae la distesa delle acque.

From the breath of God is frost given, And the breadth of waters is straitened,

11 E gli carica pure le nubi di umidità, disperde lontano le nuvole che portano i suoi lampi

Yea, by filling He doth press out a cloud, Scatter a cloud doth His light.

12 e d esse, da lui guidate, vagano nei loro giri per eseguire i suoi comandi sopra la faccia di tutta la terra;

And it is turning itself round by His counsels, For their doing all He commandeth them, On the face of the habitable earth.

13 e le manda come flagello, oppure come beneficio alla sua terra, o come prova della sua bontà.

Whether for a rod, or for His land, Or for kindness -- He doth cause it to come.

14 « Porgi l’orecchio a questo, Giobbe; fèrmati e considera le meraviglie di Dio!

Hear this, O Job, Stand and consider the wonders of God.

15 S ai tu come Dio le diriga e faccia guizzare il lampo dalle sue nubi?

Dost thou know when God doth place them, And caused to shine the light of His cloud?

16 C onosci tu l’equilibrio delle nuvole, le meraviglie di colui la cui scienza è perfetta?

Dost thou know the balancings of a cloud? The wonders of the Perfect in knowledge?

17 S ai come mai i tuoi abiti sono caldi quando la terra si assopisce sotto il soffio dello scirocco?

How thy garments warm, In the quieting of the earth from the south?

18 P uoi tu, come lui, distendere i cieli e farli solidi come uno specchio di metallo?

Thou hast made an expanse with Him For the clouds -- strong as a hard mirror!

19 I nsegnaci tu che cosa dirgli! Nelle nostre tenebre, noi siamo senza parole.

Let us know what we say to Him, We set not in array because of darkness.

20 G li si annuncerà forse che io voglio parlare? Ma chi mai può desiderare di essere inghiottito?

Is it declared to Him that I speak? If a man hath spoken, surely he is swallowed up.

21 N essuno può fissare il sole che sfolgora nel cielo, quando c’è passato il vento a renderlo limpido.

And now, they have not seen the light, Bright it in the clouds, And the wind hath passed by and cleanseth them.

22 D al settentrione viene l’oro; Dio è circondato da una maestà terribile;

From the golden north it cometh, Beside God fearful honour.

23 l ’Onnipotente noi non lo possiamo scoprire. Egli è grande in forza, in equità, in perfetta giustizia; egli non opprime nessuno.

The Mighty! we have not found Him out, High in power and judgment, He doth not answer! And abundant in righteousness,

24 P erciò gli uomini lo temono; egli non degna d’uno sguardo chi si crede saggio».

Therefore do men fear Him, He seeth not any of the wise of heart.
