1 N ella chiesa che era ad Antiochia c’erano profeti e dottori: Barnaba, Simeone detto Niger, Lucio di Cirene, Manaem, amico d’infanzia di Erode il tetrarca, e Saulo.

And there were certain in Antioch, in the assembly there, prophets and teachers; both Barnabas, and Simeon who is called Niger, and Lucius the Cyrenian, Manaen also -- Herod the tetrarch's foster-brother -- and Saul;

2 M entre celebravano il culto del Signore e digiunavano, lo Spirito Santo disse: «Mettetemi da parte Barnaba e Saulo per l’opera alla quale li ho chiamati».

and in their ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, `Separate ye to me both Barnabas and Saul to the work to which I have called them,'

3 A llora, dopo aver digiunato, pregato e imposto loro le mani, li lasciarono partire. Barnaba e Saulo a Cipro

then having fasted, and having prayed, and having laid the hands on them, they sent away.

4 E ssi dunque, mandati dallo Spirito Santo, scesero a Seleucia, e di là salparono verso Cipro.

These, indeed, then, having been sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia, thence also they sailed to Cyprus,

5 G iunti a Salamina, annunciarono la Parola di Dio nelle sinagoghe dei Giudei; e avevano con loro Giovanni come aiutante.

and having come unto Salamis, they declared the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews, and they had also John a ministrant;

6 P oi, attraversata tutta l’isola fino a Pafo, trovarono un tale, mago e falso profeta giudeo, di nome Bar-Gesù,

and having gone through the island unto Paphos, they found a certain magian, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name Bar-Jesus;

7 i l quale era con il proconsole Sergio Paolo, uomo intelligente. Questi, chiamati a sé Barnaba e Saulo, chiese di ascoltare la Parola di Dio.

who was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man; this one having called for Barnabas and Saul, did desire to hear the word of God,

8 M a Elima, il mago (questo è il significato del suo nome), faceva loro opposizione cercando di distogliere il proconsole dalla fede.

and there withstood them Elymas the magian -- for so is his name interpreted -- seeking to pervert the proconsul from the faith.

9 A llora Saulo, detto anche Paolo, pieno di Spirito Santo, guardandolo fisso, gli disse:

And Saul -- who also Paul -- having been filled with the Holy Spirit, and having looked stedfastly on him,

10 « O uomo pieno di ogni frode e di ogni malizia, figlio del diavolo, nemico di ogni giustizia, non cesserai mai di pervertire le rette vie del Signore?

said, `O full of all guile, and all profligacy, son of a devil, enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease perverting the right ways of the Lord?

11 E cco, ora la mano del Signore è su di te, e sarai cieco per un certo tempo, senza vedere il sole». In quell’istante, oscurità e tenebre piombarono su di lui; e andando qua e là cercava chi lo conducesse per la mano.

and now, lo, a hand of the Lord upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season;' and presently there fell upon him a mist and darkness, and he, going about, was seeking some to lead by the hand;

12 A llora il proconsole, visto quello che era accaduto, credette, colpito dalla dottrina del Signore.

then the proconsul having seen what hath come to pass, did believe, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

13 P aolo e i suoi compagni, imbarcatisi a Pafo, arrivarono a Perga di Panfilia; ma Giovanni, separatosi da loro, ritornò a Gerusalemme. Predicazione di Paolo ad Antiochia di Pisidia

And those about Paul having set sail from Paphos, came to Perga of Pamphylia, and John having departed from them, did turn back to Jerusalem,

14 E ssi, passando oltre Perga, giunsero ad Antiochia di Pisidia; ed entrati di sabato nella sinagoga, si sedettero.

and they having gone through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia, and having gone into the synagogue on the sabbath-day, they sat down,

15 D opo la lettura della legge e dei profeti, i capi della sinagoga mandarono a dire loro: «Fratelli, se avete qualche parola di esortazione da rivolgere al popolo, ditela».

and after the reading of the law and of the prophets, the chief men of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, `Men, brethren, if there be a word in you of exhortation unto the people -- say on.'

16 A llora Paolo si alzò e, fatto cenno con la mano, disse: «Israeliti, e voi che temete Dio, ascoltate.

And Paul having risen, and having beckoned with the hand, said, `Men, Israelites, and those fearing God, hearken:

17 I l Dio di questo popolo d’Israele scelse i nostri padri, fece grande il popolo durante la sua dimora nel paese d’Egitto e, con braccio potente, lo trasse fuori.

the God of this people Israel did choose our fathers, and the people He did exalt in their sojourning in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm did He bring them out of it;

18 P er circa quarant’anni sopportò la loro condotta nel deserto.

and about a period of forty years He did suffer their manners in the wilderness,

19 P oi, dopo aver distrutto sette nazioni nel paese di Canaan, distribuì come eredità il paese di quelle.

and having destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He did divide by lot to them their land.

20 T utto questo per circa quattrocentocinquant’anni. Dopo queste cose, diede loro dei giudici fino al profeta Samuele.

`And after these things, about four hundred and fifty years, He gave judges -- till Samuel the prophet;

21 I n seguito chiesero un re; e Dio diede loro Saul, figlio di Chis, della tribù di Beniamino, per un periodo di quarant’anni.

and thereafter they asked for a king, and God did give to them Saul, son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years;

22 P oi lo rimosse e suscitò loro come re Davide, al quale rese questa testimonianza: “Io ho trovato Davide, figlio di Isai, uomo secondo il mio cuore, che eseguirà ogni mio volere”.

and having removed him, He did raise up to them David for king, to whom also having testified, he said, I found David, the of Jesse, a man according to My heart, who shall do all My will.

23 D alla discendenza di lui, secondo la promessa, Dio ha suscitato a Israele un salvatore, Gesù.

`Of this one's seed God, according to promise, did raise to Israel a Saviour -- Jesus,

24 G iovanni, prima della venuta di lui, aveva predicato il battesimo del ravvedimento a tutto il popolo d’Israele.

John having first preached, before his coming, a baptism of reformation to all the people of Israel;

25 E quando Giovanni stava per concludere la sua missione disse: “Che cosa pensate voi che io sia? Io non sono il Messia; ma ecco, dopo di me viene uno al quale io non sono degno di slacciare i calzari ”.

and as John was fulfilling the course, he said, Whom me do ye suppose to be? I am not, but, lo, he doth come after me, of whom I am not worthy to loose the sandal of feet.

26 F ratelli, figli della discendenza di Abraamo, e tutti voi che avete timor di Dio, a noi è stata mandata la Parola di questa salvezza.

`Men, brethren, sons of the race of Abraham, and those among you fearing God, to you was the word of this salvation sent,

27 I nfatti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e i loro capi non hanno riconosciuto questo Gesù e, condannandolo, adempirono le dichiarazioni dei profeti che si leggono ogni sabato.

for those dwelling in Jerusalem, and their chiefs, this one not having known, also the voices of the prophets, which every sabbath are being read -- having judged -- did fulfill,

28 B enché non trovassero in lui nulla che fosse degno di morte, chiesero a Pilato che fosse ucciso.

and no cause of death having found, they did ask of Pilate that he should be slain,

29 D opo aver compiuto tutte le cose che erano scritte di lui, lo trassero giù dal legno e lo deposero in un sepolcro.

and when they did complete all the things written about him, having taken down from the tree, they laid him in a tomb;

30 M a Dio lo risuscitò dai morti;

and God did raise him out of the dead,

31 e per molti giorni egli apparve a quelli che erano saliti con lui dalla Galilea a Gerusalemme, i quali ora sono suoi testimoni davanti al popolo.

and he was seen for many days of those who did come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.

32 E noi vi portiamo il lieto messaggio che la promessa fatta ai padri

`And we to you do proclaim good news -- that the promise made unto the fathers,

33 D io l’ha adempiuta per noi, {loro} figli, risuscitando Gesù, come anche è scritto nel salmo secondo: “Tu sei mio Figlio, oggi io t’ho generato”.

God hath in full completed this to us their children, having raised up Jesus, as also in the second Psalm it hath been written, My Son thou art -- I to-day have begotten thee.

34 S iccome lo ha risuscitato dai morti, in modo che non abbia più a tornare alla decomposizione, Dio ha detto così: “Io vi manterrò le sacre e fedeli promesse fatte a Davide”.

`And that He did raise him up out of the dead, no more to return to corruption, he hath said thus -- I will give to you the faithful kindnesses of David;

35 D ifatti egli dice altrove: “Tu non permetterai che il tuo Santo subisca la decomposizione”.

wherefore also in another he saith, Thou shalt not give Thy kind One to see corruption,

36 O ra Davide, dopo aver eseguito il volere di Dio nella sua generazione, si è addormentato ed è stato unito ai suoi padri, e il suo corpo si è decomposto;

for David, indeed, his own generation having served by the will of God, did fall asleep, and was added unto his fathers, and saw corruption,

37 m a colui che Dio ha risuscitato non ha subìto decomposizione.

but he whom God did raise up, did not see corruption.

38 V i sia dunque noto, fratelli, che per mezzo di lui vi è annunciato il perdono dei peccati;

`Let it therefore be known to you, men, brethren, that through this one to you is the forgiveness of sins declared,

39 e , per mezzo di lui, chiunque crede è giustificato di tutte le cose, delle quali voi non avete potuto essere giustificati mediante la legge di Mosè.

and from all things from which ye were not able in the law of Moses to be declared righteous, in this one every one who is believing is declared righteous;

40 G uardate dunque che non vi accada ciò che è detto nei profeti:

see, therefore, it may not come upon you that hath been spoken in the prophets:

41 “ Guardate, o disprezzatori, stupite e nascondetevi, perché io compio un’opera ai giorni vostri, un’opera che voi non credereste, se qualcuno ve la raccontasse” ».

See, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish, because a work I -- I do work in your days, a work in which ye may not believe, though any one may declare to you.'

42 M entre uscivano, furono pregati di parlare di quelle medesime cose il sabato seguente.

And having gone forth out of the synagogue of the Jews, the nations were calling upon that on the next sabbath these sayings may be spoken to them,

43 D opo che la riunione si fu sciolta, molti Giudei e proseliti pii seguirono Paolo e Barnaba; i quali, parlando loro, li convincevano a perseverare nella grazia di Dio.

and the synagogue having been dismissed, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes did follow Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were persuading them to remain in the grace of God.

44 I l sabato seguente quasi tutta la città si radunò per udire la Parola del Signore.

And on the coming sabbath, almost all the city was gathered together to hear the word of God,

45 M a i Giudei, vedendo la folla, furono pieni di invidia e, bestemmiando, contraddicevano le cose dette da Paolo.

and the Jews having seen the multitudes, were filled with zeal, and did contradict the things spoken by Paul -- contradicting and speaking evil.

46 M a Paolo e Barnaba dissero con franchezza: «Era necessario che a voi per primi si annunciasse la Parola di Dio; ma poiché la respingete e non vi ritenete degni della vita eterna, ecco, ci rivolgiamo agli stranieri.

And speaking boldly, Paul and Barnabas said, `To you it was necessary that first the word of God be spoken, and seeing ye do thrust it away, and do not judge yourselves worthy of the life age-during, lo, we do turn to the nations;

47 C osì infatti ci ha ordinato il Signore, dicendo: “Io ti ho posto come luce dei popoli, perché tu porti la salvezza fino alle estremità della terra”.

for so hath the Lord commanded us: I have set thee for a light of nations -- for thy being for salvation unto the end of the earth.'

48 G li stranieri, udendo queste cose, si rallegravano e glorificavano la Parola del Signore; e tutti quelli che erano ordinati a vita eterna, credettero.

And the nations hearing were glad, and were glorifying the word of the Lord, and did believe -- as many as were appointed to life age-during;

49 E la Parola del Signore si diffondeva per tutta la regione.

and the word of the Lord was spread abroad through all the region.

50 M a i Giudei istigarono le donne pie e ragguardevoli e i notabili della città, scatenarono una persecuzione contro Paolo e Barnaba e li cacciarono fuori dal loro territorio.

And the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the first men of the city, and did raise persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and did put them out from their borders;

51 A llora essi, scossa la polvere dei piedi contro di loro, andarono a Iconio,

and they having shaken off the dust of their feet against them, came to Iconium,

52 m entre i discepoli erano pieni di gioia e di Spirito Santo.

and the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.
