1 S uonate la tromba a Sion! Date l’allarme sul mio monte santo! Tremino tutti gli abitanti del paese, perché il giorno del Signore viene, è vicino,

Blow ye a trumpet in Zion, And shout ye in My holy hill, Tremble do all inhabitants of the earth, For coming is the day of Jehovah, for near!

2 g iorno di tenebre, di densa oscurità, giorno di nubi e di fitta nebbia! Come l’aurora, si sparge sui monti un popolo numeroso e potente, quale non se n’è mai visto prima, e non se ne vedrà mai più in appresso negli anni delle generazioni future.

A day of darkness and thick darkness, A day of cloud and thick darkness, As darkness spread on the mountains, A people numerous and mighty, Like it there hath not been from of old, And after it there is not again -- till the years of generation and generation.

3 D avanti a lui un fuoco divora, dietro divampa una fiamma. Prima di lui il paese era come il giardino di Eden, dopo di lui è un deserto desolato; nulla gli sfugge.

Before it consumed hath fire, And after it burn doth a flame, As the garden of Eden the land before it, And after it a wilderness -- a desolation! And also an escape there hath not been to it,

4 A vederli, sembrano cavalli, corrono come dei cavalieri.

As the appearance of horses its appearance, And as horsemen, so they run.

5 S embra un fragore di carri, quando saltano sulle vette dei monti; crepitano come la fiamma che brucia la stoppia. Sono come un popolo poderoso, schierato in battaglia.

As the noise of chariots, on the tops of the mountains they skip, As the noise of a flame of fire devouring stubble, As a mighty people set in array for battle.

6 D avanti a loro tremano i popoli, ogni volto impallidisce.

From its face pained are peoples, All faces have gathered paleness.

7 C orrono come prodi, danno la scalata alle mura come guerrieri; ognuno va diritto davanti a sé e non devia dal proprio sentiero.

As mighty ones they run, As men of war they go up a wall, And each in his own ways they do go, And they embarrass not their paths.

8 N essuno spinge il suo vicino, ognuno avanza per la sua strada; si slanciano in mezzo alle frecce, non rompono le file.

And each his brother they press not, Each in his way they go on, If by the missile they fall, they are not cut off.

9 I nvadono la città, corrono sulle mura; salgono sulle case, entrano per le finestre come ladri.

In the city they run to and fro, On the wall they run, Into houses they go up by the windows, They go in as a thief.

10 D avanti a loro la terra trema, i cieli sono scossi, il sole e la luna si oscurano, le stelle perdono il loro splendore.

At their face trembled hath the earth, Shaken have the heavens, Sun and moon have been black, And stars have gathered up their shining.

11 I l Signore fa sentire la sua voce davanti al suo esercito, perché le sue schiere sono innumerevoli, perché l’esecutore della sua parola è potente, perché il giorno del Signore è grande, davvero terribile! Chi potrà sopportarlo? Invito al ravvedimento

And Jehovah hath given forth His voice before His force, For very great His camp, For mighty the doer of His word, For great the day of Jehovah -- very fearful, And who doth bear it?

12 « Nondimeno, anche adesso», dice il Signore, «tornate a me con tutto il vostro cuore, con digiuni, con pianti e con lamenti!»

And also now -- an affirmation of Jehovah, Turn ye back unto Me with all your heart, And with fasting, and with weeping, And with lamentation.

13 S tracciatevi il cuore, non le vesti; tornate al Signore, vostro Dio, perché egli è misericordioso e pietoso, lento all’ira e pieno di bontà, e si pente del male che manda.

And rend your heart, and not your garments, And turn back unto Jehovah your God, For gracious and merciful He, Slow to anger, and abundant in kindness, And He hath repented concerning the evil.

14 P uò darsi che egli torni e si penta, e lasci dietro a sé una benedizione: un’offerta e una libazione per il Signore, vostro Dio.

Who knoweth -- He doth turn back, Yea -- He hath repented, And He hath left behind Him a blessing, A present and libation of Jehovah your God?

15 S uonate la tromba a Sion, proclamate un digiuno, convocate una solenne assemblea!

Blow ye a trumpet in Zion, Sanctify a fast -- proclaim a restraint.

16 A dunate il popolo, santificate l’assemblea! Adunate i vecchi, i bambini e quelli che poppano ancora! Esca lo sposo dalla sua camera, e la sposa dalla camera nuziale!

Gather the people, sanctify an assembly, Assemble the aged, Gather infants and sucklings of the breasts, Go out let a bridegroom from his inner chamber, And a bride out of her closet.

17 P iangano, fra il portico e l’altare, i sacerdoti, ministri del Signore, e dicano: «Risparmia, o Signore, il tuo popolo e non esporre la tua eredità all’infamia, allo scherno delle nazioni! Perché dovrebbero dire fra i popoli: “Dov’è il loro Dio?”». Promesse di benedizione

Between the porch and the altar weep let the priests, ministrants of Jehovah, And let them say: `Have pity, O Jehovah, on Thy people, And give not Thy inheritance to reproach, To the ruling over them of nations, Why do they say among peoples, Where their God?'

18 I l Signore ha provato gelosia per il suo paese e ha avuto pietà del suo popolo.

And let Jehovah be zealous for His land, And have pity on His people.

19 I l Signore ha risposto e ha detto al suo popolo: «Ecco, io vi manderò grano, vino, olio, e voi ne sarete saziati; e non vi esporrò più all’infamia tra le nazioni.

Let Jehovah answer and say to His people, `Lo, I am sending to you the corn, And the new wine, and the oil, And ye have been satisfied with it, And I make you no more a reproach among nations,

20 A llontanerò da voi il nemico che viene dal settentrione, lo respingerò verso una terra arida e desolata: la sua avanguardia, verso il mare orientale, la sua retroguardia, verso il mare occidentale; la sua infezione salirà, aumenterà il suo fetore», perché ha fatto cose grandi.

And the northern I put far off from you, And have driven him unto a land dry and desolate, With his face unto the eastern sea, And his rear unto the western sea, And come up hath his stink, And come up doth his stench, For he hath exerted himself to work.

21 N on temere, o terra del paese, gioisci, rallègrati, perché il Signore ha fatto cose grandi!

Do not fear, O land! joy and rejoice, For Jehovah hath exerted Himself to work.

22 N on temete, o animali selvatici, perché i pascoli del deserto rinverdiscono, perché gli alberi portano il loro frutto, il fico e la vite producono abbondantemente!

Do not fear, O cattle of the field! For sprung forth have pastures of a wilderness, For the tree hath borne its fruit, Fig-tree and vine have given their strength!

23 V oi, figli di Sion, gioite, rallegratevi nel Signore, vostro Dio, perché vi dà la pioggia d’autunno in giusta misura e fa scendere per voi la pioggia, quella d’autunno e quella di primavera, come prima.

And ye sons of Zion, joy and rejoice, In Jehovah your God, For He hath given to you the Teacher for righteousness, And causeth to come down to you a shower, Sprinkling and gathered -- in the beginning.

24 L e aie saranno piene di grano, i tini traboccheranno di vino e d’olio.

And full have been the floors pure corn, And overflown have the presses new wine and oil.

25 « Vi compenserò delle annate divorate dal grillo, dalla cavalletta, dalla locusta e dal bruco, il grande esercito che avevo mandato contro di voi.

And I have recompensed to you the years That consume did the locust, the cankerworm, And the caterpillar, and the palmer-worm, My great force that I did send against you.

26 M angerete a sazietà e loderete il nome del Signore, vostro Dio, che avrà operato per voi meraviglie, e il mio popolo non sarà mai più coperto di vergogna.

And ye have eaten, eating and being satisfied, And have praised the name of Jehovah your God, Who hath dealt with you wonderfully, And not ashamed are My people to the age.

27 C onoscerete che io sono in mezzo a Israele, che io sono il Signore, vostro Dio, e non ce n’è nessun altro; e il mio popolo non sarà mai più coperto di vergogna.

And ye have known that in the midst of Israel I, And I Jehovah your God, and there is none else, And not ashamed are My people to the age.

28 « Dopo questo, avverrà che io spargerò il mio Spirito su ogni persona: i vostri figli e le vostre figlie profetizzeranno, i vostri vecchi faranno dei sogni, i vostri giovani avranno delle visioni.

And it hath come to pass afterwards, I do pour out My Spirit on all flesh, And prophesied have your sons and your daughters, Your old men do dream dreams, Your young men do see visions.

29 A nche sui servi e sulle serve spargerò in quei giorni il mio Spirito.

And also on the men-servants, and on the maid-servants, In those days I do pour out My Spirit.

30 F arò prodigi nei cieli e sulla terra: sangue, fuoco e colonne di fumo.

And I have given wonders in the heavens, and in the earth, Blood and fire, and columns of smoke.

31 I l sole sarà cambiato in tenebre e la luna in sangue, prima che venga il grande e terribile giorno del Signore.

The sun is turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, Before the coming of the day of Jehovah, The great and the fearful.

32 C hiunque invocherà il nome del Signore sarà salvato; poiché sul monte Sion e a Gerusalemme vi sarà salvezza, come ha detto il Signore, così pure fra i superstiti che il Signore chiamerà.

And it hath come to pass, Every one who calleth in the name of Jehovah is delivered, For in mount Zion and in Jerusalem there is an escape, As Jehovah hath said, And among the remnants whom Jehovah is calling!
