1 O r Core, figlio di Isar, figlio di Cheat, figlio di Levi, insieme con Datan e Abiram, figli di Eliab, e On, figlio di Pelet, tutti e tre della tribù di Ruben,

And Korah, son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, taketh both Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, sons of Reuben,

2 i nsorsero contro Mosè con duecentocinquanta Israeliti autorevoli nella comunità, membri del consiglio, uomini rinomati;

and they rise up before Moses, with men of the sons of Israel, two hundred and fifty, princes of the company, called of the convention, men of name,

3 e , radunatisi contro Mosè e contro Aaronne, dissero loro: «Basta! Tutta la comunità, tutti, dal primo all’ultimo, sono santi, e il Signore è in mezzo a loro; perché dunque vi mettete al di sopra dell’assemblea del Signore ?»

and they are assembled against Moses and against Aaron, and say unto them, `Enough of you! for all the company -- all of them holy, and in their midst Jehovah; and wherefore do ye lift yourselves up above the assembly of Jehovah?'

4 Q uando Mosè ebbe udito questo, si prostrò con la faccia a terra;

And Moses heareth, and falleth on his face,

5 p oi parlò a Core e a tutta la gente che era con lui, e disse: «Domani mattina il Signore farà conoscere chi è suo e chi è santo, e se lo farà avvicinare; farà avvicinare a sé colui che egli avrà scelto.

and he speaketh unto Korah, and unto all his company, saying, `Morning! -- and Jehovah is knowing those who are his, and him who is holy, and hath brought near unto Him; even him whom He doth fix on He bringeth near unto Him.

6 F ate questo: prendete dei turiboli, tu, Core, e tutta la gente che è con te;

This do: take to yourselves censers, Korah, and all his company,

7 d omani li riempirete di fuoco e li coprirete d’incenso davanti al Signore: colui che il Signore sceglierà, sarà santo. Basta, figli di Levi!»

and put in them fire, and put on them perfume, before Jehovah to-morrow, and it hath been, the man whom Jehovah chooseth, he the holy one; -- enough of you, sons of Levi.'

8 M osè disse inoltre a Core: «Ora ascoltate, o figli di Levi!

And Moses saith unto Korah, `Hear ye, I pray you, sons of Levi;

9 V i sembra poco che il Dio d’Israele vi abbia scelti in mezzo alla comunità d’Israele e vi abbia fatto avvicinare a sé per fare il servizio del tabernacolo del Signore e per tenervi davanti alla comunità per esercitare il vostro ministero per lei?

is it little to you that the God of Israel hath separated you from the company of Israel to bring you near unto Himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of Jehovah, and to stand before the company to serve them? --

10 E gli vi fa avvicinare a sé, te e tutti i tuoi fratelli figli di Levi con te, e pretendete anche il sacerdozio?

yea, He doth bring thee near, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee -- and ye have sought also the priesthood!

11 P er questo tu e tutta la gente che è con te avete fatto lega contro il Signore! Poiché chi è Aaronne che vi mettete a mormorare contro di lui?»

Therefore, thou and all thy company who are met against Jehovah; and Aaron, what he, that ye murmur against him?'

12 E Mosè mandò a chiamare Datan e Abiram, figli di Eliab; ma essi dissero: «Noi non saliremo.

And Moses sendeth to call for Dathan and for Abiram sons of Eliab, and they say, `We do not come up;

13 T i sembra poco l’averci fatto uscire da un paese dove scorrono il latte e il miele, per farci morire nel deserto? Vuoi elevarti su di noi come un capo?

is it little that thou hast brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to put us to death in a wilderness that thou also certainly makest thyself prince over us?

14 E poi, non ci hai davvero condotti in un paese dove scorrono il latte e il miele e non ci hai dato possesso di campi né di vigne! Credi forse di poter bendare gli occhi a questa gente? Noi non saliremo».

Yea, unto a land flowing with milk and honey thou hast not brought us in, nor dost thou give to us an inheritance of field and vineyard; the eyes of these men dost thou pick out? we do not come up.'

15 A llora Mosè si adirò molto e disse al Signore: «Non gradire la loro oblazione; io non ho preso da costoro neppure un asino, e non ho fatto torto ad alcuno di loro».

And it is very displeasing to Moses, and he saith unto Jehovah, `Turn not Thou unto their present; not one ass from them have I taken, nor have I afflicted one of them.'

16 P oi Mosè disse a Core: «Tu e tutta la tua gente trovatevi domani davanti al Signore: tu e loro con Aaronne;

And Moses saith unto Korah, `Thou and all thy company, be ye before Jehovah, thou, and they, and Aaron, to-morrow;

17 e ciascuno di voi prenda il suo turibolo, vi metta dell’incenso, e porti ciascuno il suo turibolo davanti al Signore: saranno duecentocinquanta turiboli. Anche tu e Aaronne prenderete ciascuno il vostro turibolo».

and take ye each his censer, and ye have put on them perfume, and brought near before Jehovah, each his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; and thou and Aaron, each his censer.'

18 E ssi dunque presero ciascuno il proprio turibolo, vi misero del fuoco, vi posero sopra dell’incenso e si fermarono all’ingresso della tenda di convegno; lo stesso fecero Mosè e Aaronne.

And they take each his censer, and put on them fire, and lay on them perfume, and they stand at the opening of the tent of meeting, with Moses and Aaron.

19 E Core convocò tutta la comunità contro Mosè e Aaronne all’ingresso della tenda di convegno; e la gloria del Signore apparve a tutta la comunità.

And Korah assembleth against them all the company unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and the honour of Jehovah is seen by all the company.

20 I l Signore parlò a Mosè e ad Aaronne e disse:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

21 « Separatevi da questa gente e io li consumerò in un attimo».

`Be ye separated from the midst of this company, and I consume them in a moment;'

22 M a essi si prostrarono con la faccia a terra e dissero: «O Dio, Dio che dai la vita a ogni creatura! Un uomo solo ha peccato, e vorresti adirarti contro tutta la comunità?»

and they fall on their faces, and say, `God, God of the spirits of all flesh -- the one man sinneth, and against all the company Thou art wroth!'

23 E il Signore disse a Mosè:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

24 « Parla alla comunità e dille: “Allontanatevi dalla dimora di Core, di Datan e di Abiram”».

`Speak unto the company, saying, Go ye up from round about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.'

25 M osè si alzò e andò da Datan e da Abiram; e gli anziani d’Israele lo seguirono.

And Moses riseth, and goeth unto Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel go after him,

26 E gli disse alla comunità: «Allontanatevi dalle tende di questi uomini malvagi e non toccate nulla di ciò che appartiene a loro, affinché non periate a causa di tutti i loro peccati».

and he speaketh unto the company, saying, `Turn aside, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and come not against anything that they have, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.'

27 C osì quelli si allontanarono dalla dimora di Core, di Datan e di Abiram. Datan e Abiram uscirono e si fermarono all’ingresso delle loro tende con le loro mogli, i loro figli e i loro bambini.

And they go up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan and Abiram, from round about, and Dathan, and Abiram have come out, standing at the opening of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their infants.

28 M osè disse: «Da questo conoscerete che il Signore mi ha mandato per fare tutte queste cose, e che non le ho fatte di testa mia.

And Moses saith, `By this ye do know that Jehovah hath sent me to do all these works, that not from my own heart;

29 S e questa gente muore come muoiono tutti gli uomini, se la loro sorte è la sorte comune a tutti gli uomini, il Signore non mi ha mandato;

if according to the death of all men these die -- or the charge of all men is charged upon them -- Jehovah hath not sent me;

30 m a se il Signore fa una cosa nuova, se la terra apre la sua bocca e li ingoia con tutto quello che appartiene a loro e se essi scendono vivi nel soggiorno dei morti, allora riconoscerete che questi uomini hanno disprezzato il Signore ».

and if a strange thing Jehovah do, and the ground hath opened her mouth and swallowed them, and all that they have, and they have gone down alive to Sheol -- then ye have known that these men have despised Jehovah.'

31 A ppena egli ebbe finito di pronunciare tutte queste parole, il suolo si spaccò sotto i piedi di quelli,

And it cometh to pass at his finishing speaking all these words, that the ground which under them cleaveth,

32 l a terra spalancò la sua bocca e li ingoiò: essi e le loro famiglie, con tutta la gente che apparteneva a Core e tutta la loro roba.

and the earth openeth her mouth, and swalloweth them, and their houses, and all the men who for Korah, and all the goods,

33 S cesero vivi nel soggiorno dei morti; la terra si richiuse su di loro, ed essi scomparvero dal mezzo dell’assemblea.

and they go down, they, and all that they have, alive to Sheol, and the earth closeth over them, and they perish from the midst of the assembly;

34 T utto Israele che era intorno a loro fuggì alle loro grida; perché dicevano: «Che la terra non ingoi anche noi!»

and all Israel who round about them have fled at their voice, for they said, `Lest the earth swallow us;'

35 U n fuoco uscì dalla presenza del Signore e divorò i duecentocinquanta uomini che offrivano l’incenso.

and fire hath come out from Jehovah, and consumeth the two hundred and fifty men bringing near the perfume.

36 P oi il Signore disse a Mosè:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

37 « Di’ a Eleazar, figlio del sacerdote Aaronne, di tirar fuori i turiboli dall’incendio e di disperdere qua e là il fuoco, perché quelli sono sacri;

`Say unto Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, and he lifteth up the censers from the midst of the burning, and the fire scatter thou yonder, for they have been hallowed,

38 e dei turiboli di quegli uomini che hanno peccato al prezzo della loro vita si facciano tante lamine battute per rivestirne l’altare, poiché sono stati presentati davanti al Signore e quindi sono sacri; serviranno di segno ai figli d’Israele».

the censers of these sinners against their own souls; and they have made them spread-out plates, a covering for the altar, for they have brought them near before Jehovah, and they are hallowed; and they are become a sign to the sons of Israel.'

39 I l sacerdote Eleazar prese i turiboli di bronzo presentati dagli uomini che erano stati bruciati, ne fece delle lamine per rivestirne l’altare

And Eleazar the priest taketh the brazen censers which they who are burnt had brought near, and they spread them out, a covering for the altar --

40 e ricordare ai figli d’Israele che nessun estraneo ai discendenti di Aaronne deve accostarsi per ardere incenso davanti al Signore, affinché non gli capiti la sorte di Core e di quelli che erano con lui. Eleazar fece come il Signore gli aveva detto per mezzo di Mosè.

a memorial to the sons of Israel, so that a stranger who is not of the seed of Aaron doth not draw near to make a perfume before Jehovah, and is not as Korah, and as his company, -- as Jehovah hath spoken by the hand of Moses to him.

41 I l giorno seguente tutta la comunità dei figli d’Israele mormorò contro Mosè e Aaronne e disse: «Voi avete fatto morire il popolo del Signore ».

And all the company of the sons of Israel murmur, on the morrow, against Moses and against Aaron, saying, `Ye -- ye have put to death the people of Jehovah.'

42 E avvenne che, mentre la comunità si radunava contro Mosè e Aaronne, i figli d’Israele si volsero verso la tenda di convegno; ed ecco che la nuvola la ricoprì e apparve la gloria del Signore.

And it cometh to pass, in the company being assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they turn towards the tent of meeting, and lo, the cloud hath covered it, and the honour of Jehovah is seen;

43 M osè e Aaronne vennero davanti alla tenda di convegno.

and Moses cometh -- Aaron also -- unto the front of the tent of meeting.

44 I l Signore disse a Mosè:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

45 « Allontanatevi da questa comunità e io li consumerò in un attimo». Ed essi si prostrarono con la faccia a terra.

`Get you up from the midst of this company, and I consume them in a moment;' and they fall on their faces,

46 M osè disse ad Aaronne: «Prendi il turibolo, riempilo di fuoco preso dall’altare, mettici sopra dell’incenso e portalo presto in mezzo alla comunità e fa’ l’espiazione per loro; poiché l’ira del Signore è scoppiata, il flagello è già cominciato».

and Moses saith unto Aaron, `Take the censer, and put on it fire from off the altar, and place perfume, and go, hasten unto the company, and make atonement for them, for the wrath hath gone out from the presence of Jehovah -- the plague hath begun.'

47 A aronne prese il turibolo, come Mosè aveva detto, corse in mezzo all’assemblea, ed ecco che il flagello era già cominciato fra il popolo. Aaronne mise l’incenso nel turibolo e fece l’espiazione per il popolo.

And Aaron taketh as Moses hath spoken, and runneth unto the midst of the assembly, and lo, the plague hath begun among the people; and he giveth the perfume, and maketh atonement for the people,

48 S i fermò tra i morti e i vivi e il flagello cessò.

and standeth between the dead and the living, and the plague is restrained;

49 I morti a causa del flagello furono quattordicimilasettecento, oltre a quelli che morirono per il fatto di Core.

and those who die by the plague are fourteen thousand and seven hundred, apart from those who die for the matter of Korah;

50 A aronne tornò da Mosè all’ingresso della tenda di convegno e il flagello era cessato.

and Aaron turneth back unto Moses, unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and the plague hath been restrained.
