2 B ello si erge, e rallegra tutta la terra, il monte Sion: parte estrema del settentrione, città del gran re.

Beautiful elevation, A joy of all the land, Mount Zion, The sides of the north, the city of a great king.

3 N ei suoi palazzi Dio è conosciuto come fortezza inespugnabile.

God in her high places is known for a tower.

4 Q uando i re si erano alleati e avanzavano uniti,

For, lo, the kings met, they passed by together,

5 a ppena la videro rimasero attoniti; rimasti smarriti, si misero in fuga.

They have seen -- so they have marvelled, They have been troubled, they were hastened away.

6 L à furono presi da tremore e da doglie come di donna che partorisce,

Trembling hath seized them there, Pain, as of a travailing woman.

7 c ome quando il vento orientale spezza le navi di Tarsis.

By an east wind Thou shiverest ships of Tarshish.

8 Q uel che avevamo udito l’abbiamo visto nella città del Signore degli eserciti, nella città del nostro Dio. Dio la renderà stabile per sempre.

As we have heard, so we have seen, In the city of Jehovah of hosts, In the city of our God, God doth establish her -- to the age. Selah.

9 D entro il tuo tempio, o Dio, noi ricordiamo la tua bontà.

We have thought, O God, of Thy kindness, In the midst of Thy temple,

10 C ome il tuo nome, o Dio, così la tua lode giunge fino alle estremità della terra; la tua destra è piena di giustizia.

As Thy name, O God, so Thy praise, Over the ends of the earth, Righteousness hath filled Thy right hand.

11 S i rallegri il monte Sion, esultino le figlie di Giuda per i tuoi giudizi!

Rejoice doth Mount Zion, The daughters of Judah are joyful, For the sake of Thy judgments.

12 F ate il giro di Sion, marciatele attorno, contate le sue torri,

Compass Zion, and go round her, count her towers,

13 o sservate le sue mura, considerate i suoi palazzi, perché possiate dire alla generazione futura:

Set your heart to her bulwark, Consider her high places, So that ye recount to a later generation,

14 « Questo è Dio, il nostro Dio in eterno; egli sarà la nostra guida fino alla morte».

That this God our God -- To the age and for ever, He -- he doth lead us over death!
