1 A l tempo di Davide ci fu una carestia per tre anni continui. Davide cercò il volto del Signore, e il Signore gli disse: «C’è un debito di sangue che pende su Saul e sulla sua casa, perché egli fece perire i Gabaoniti».

And there is a famine in the days of David three years, year after year, and David seeketh the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah saith, `For Saul and for the bloody house, because that he put to death the Gibeonites.'

2 A llora il re chiamò i Gabaoniti e parlò loro. I Gabaoniti non facevano parte dei figli d’Israele, ma erano un residuo degli Amorei; i figli d’Israele si erano legati a loro per giuramento; tuttavia Saul, nel suo zelo per i figli d’Israele e di Giuda, aveva cercato di sterminarli.

And the king calleth for the Gibeonites, and saith unto them -- as to the Gibeonites, they not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorite, and the sons of Israel had sworn to them, and Saul seeketh to smite them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah --

3 D avide disse ai Gabaoniti: «Che cosa devo fare per voi e in che modo posso espiare il torto fattovi, perché voi benediciate l’eredità del Signore ?»

yea, David saith unto the Gibeonites, `What do I do for you? and with what do I make atonement? and bless ye the inheritance of Jehovah.'

4 I Gabaoniti gli risposero: «Tra noi e Saul e la sua casa non è questione d’argento o d’oro; e non spetta a noi far morire gente d’Israele». Il re disse: «Che cosa volete dunque che io faccia per voi?»

And the Gibeonites say to him, `We have no silver and gold by Saul and by his house, and we have no man to put to death in Israel;' and he saith, `What ye are saying I do to you.'

5 E ssi risposero al re: «Poiché quell’uomo ci ha consumati e aveva programmato di sterminarci per farci sparire da tutto il territorio d’Israele,

And they say unto the king, `The man who consumed us, and who devised against us -- we have been destroyed from stationing ourselves in all the border of Israel --

6 c onsegnateci sette uomini tra i suoi figli e noi li impiccheremo davanti al Signore a Ghibea di Saul, l’eletto del Signore ». Il re disse: «Ve li consegnerò».

let there be given to us seven men of his sons, and we have hanged them before Jehovah, in the height of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah.' And the king saith, `I do give;'

7 I l re risparmiò Mefiboset, figlio di Gionatan, figlio di Saul, a causa del giuramento che Davide e Gionatan, figlio di Saul, avevano fatto tra di loro davanti al Signore;

and the king hath pity on Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, son of Saul, because of the oath of Jehovah that between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul;

8 m a il re prese i due figli che Rispa, figlia di Aia, aveva partoriti a Saul, Armoni e Mefiboset, e i cinque figli che Merab, figlia di Saul, aveva partoriti ad Adriel di Meola, figlio di Barzillai,

and the king taketh the two sons of Rizpah daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Michal daughter of Saul whom she bare to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite,

9 e li consegnò ai Gabaoniti, che li impiccarono sul monte, davanti al Signore. Tutti e sette perirono assieme; furono messi a morte nei primi giorni della mietitura, quando si iniziava a mietere l’orzo.

and giveth them into the hand of the Gibeonites, and they hang them in the hill before Jehovah; and the seven fall together, and they have been put to death in the days of harvest, in the first, the commencement of barley-harvest.

10 R ispa, figlia di Aia, prese un cilicio, lo stese sulla roccia e stette là dal principio della mietitura fino a che l’acqua non cadde dal cielo sui cadaveri; lei impedì agli uccelli del cielo di posarsi su di essi di giorno e alle bestie selvatiche di avvicinarsi di notte.

And Rizpah daughter of Aiah taketh the sackcloth, and stretcheth it out for herself on the rock, from the commencement of harvest till water hath been poured out upon them from the heavens, and hath not suffered a fowl of the heavens to rest upon them by day, or the beast of the field by night.

11 F u riferito a Davide quello che Rispa, figlia di Aia, concubina di Saul, aveva fatto.

And it is declared to David that which Rizpah daughter of Aiah, concubine of Saul, hath done,

12 D avide andò a prendere le ossa di Saul e quelle di Gionatan suo figlio presso gli abitanti di Iabes di Galaad, i quali le avevano portate via dalla piazza di Bet-San, dove i Filistei avevano appeso i cadaveri quando avevano sconfitto Saul sul Ghilboa.

and David goeth and taketh the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the possessors of Jabesh-Gilead, who had stolen them from the broad place of Beth-Shan, where the Philistines hanged them, in the day of the Philistines smiting Saul in Gilboa;

13 E gli riportò di là le ossa di Saul e quelle di Gionatan suo figlio; e anche le ossa di quelli che erano stati impiccati furono raccolte.

and he bringeth up thence the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, and they gather the bones of those hanged,

14 L e ossa di Saul e di Gionatan suo figlio furono sepolte nel paese di Beniamino, a Sela, nella tomba di Chis, padre di Saul; fu fatto tutto quello che il re aveva ordinato. Dopo questo, Dio fu placato verso il paese. Ultime imprese contro i Filistei

and bury the bones of Saul and of Jonathan his son in the land of Benjamin, in Zelah, in the burying-place of Kish his father, and do all that the king commanded, and God is entreated for the land afterwards.

15 C i fu di nuovo guerra tra i Filistei e gli Israeliti. E Davide scese con la sua gente a combattere contro i Filistei. Davide era stanco

And again have the Philistines war with Israel, and David goeth down, and his servants with him, and they fight with the Philistines; and David is weary,

16 e Isbi-Benob, uno dei discendenti di Rafa, che aveva una lancia di bronzo del peso di trecento sicli e portava un’armatura nuova, manifestò il proposito di uccidere Davide;

and Ishbi-Benob, who among the children of the giant -- the weight of his spear three hundred weight of brass, and he is girded with a new one -- speaketh of smiting David,

17 m a Abisai, figlio di Seruia, venne in soccorso al re, colpì il Filisteo e lo uccise. Allora la gente di Davide gli fece questo giuramento: «Tu non uscirai più con noi a combattere ed eviterai che si spenga la lampada d’Israele».

and Abishai son of Zeruiah giveth help to him, and smiteth the Philistine, and putteth him to death; then swear the men of David to him, saying, `Thou dost not go out again with us to battle, nor quench the lamp of Israel.'

18 D opo questo ci fu un’altra battaglia con i Filistei, a Gob; allora Sibecai il Cusatita uccise Saf, uno dei discendenti di Rafa.

And it cometh to pass afterwards, that the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, then hath Sibbechai the Hushathite smitten Saph, who among the children of the giant.

19 C i fu di nuovo battaglia con i Filistei a Gob; ed Elcanan, figlio di Iaare-Oreghim di Betlemme, uccise Goliat di Gat, che aveva una lancia robusta come un subbio da tessitore.

And the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jaare-Oregim, the Beth-Lehemite, smiteth Goliath the Gittite, and the wood of his spear like a beam of weavers.

20 C i fu un’altra battaglia a Gat, dove si trovò un uomo di grande statura, che aveva sei dita in ciascuna mano e in ciascun piede, in tutto ventiquattro dita, e che era egli pure dei discendenti di Rafa.

And the battle is again in Gath, and there is a man of stature, and the fingers of his hands six, and the toes of his feet six, twenty and four in number, and he also hath been born to the giant,

21 E gli insultò Israele, e Gionatan, figlio di Simea, fratello di Davide, l’uccise.

and he reproacheth Israel, and smite him doth Jonathan son of Shimeah, brother of David;

22 Q uesti quattro uomini erano nati a Gat, della stirpe di Rafa. Essi perirono per mano di Davide e per mano della sua gente.

these four have been born to the giant in Gath, and they fall by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
