1 T i scongiuro, davanti a Dio e a Cristo Gesù che deve giudicare i vivi e i morti, per la sua apparizione e il suo regno:

I do fully testify, then, before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who is about to judge living and dead at his manifestation and his reign --

2 p redica la parola, insisti in ogni occasione favorevole e sfavorevole, convinci, rimprovera, esorta con ogni tipo di insegnamento e pazienza.

preach the word; be earnest in season, out of season, convict, rebuke, exhort, in all long-suffering and teaching,

3 I nfatti verrà il tempo che non sopporteranno più la sana dottrina, ma, per prurito di udire, si cercheranno maestri in gran numero secondo le proprie voglie,

for there shall be a season when the sound teaching they will not suffer, but according to their own desires to themselves they shall heap up teachers -- itching in the hearing,

4 e distoglieranno le orecchie dalla verità e si volgeranno alle favole.

and indeed, from the truth the hearing they shall turn away, and to the fables they shall be turned aside.

5 M a tu sii vigilante in ogni cosa, sopporta le sofferenze, svolgi il compito di evangelista, adempi fedelmente il tuo ministero. Paolo prevede la sua morte; ultime raccomandazioni

And thou -- watch in all things; suffer evil; do the work of one proclaiming good news; of thy ministration make full assurance,

6 Q uanto a me, io sto per essere offerto in libazione, e il tempo della mia partenza è giunto.

for I am already being poured out, and the time of my release hath arrived;

7 H o combattuto il buon combattimento, ho finito la corsa, ho conservato la fede.

the good strife I have striven, the course I have finished, the faith I have kept,

8 O rmai mi è riservata la corona di giustizia che il Signore, il giusto giudice, mi assegnerà in quel giorno; e non solo a me, ma anche a tutti quelli che avranno amato la sua apparizione.

henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of the righteousness that the Lord -- the Righteous Judge -- shall give to me in that day, and not only to me, but also to all those loving his manifestation.

9 C erca di venire presto da me,

Be diligent to come unto me quickly,

10 p erché Dema, avendo amato questo mondo, mi ha lasciato e se n’è andato a Tessalonica. Crescente è andato in Galazia, Tito in Dalmazia.

for Demas forsook me, having loved the present age, and went on to Thessalonica, Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia,

11 S olo Luca è con me. Prendi Marco e conducilo con te, poiché mi è molto utile per il ministero.

Lukas only is with me; Markus having taken, bring with thyself, for he is profitable to me for ministration;

12 T ichico l’ho mandato a Efeso.

13 Q uando verrai porta il mantello che ho lasciato a Troas da Carpo, e i libri, specialmente le pergamene.

the cloak that I left in Troas with Carpus, coming, bring thou and the books -- especially the parchments.

14 A lessandro, il ramaio, mi ha procurato molti mali. Il Signore gli renderà secondo le sue opere.

Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil; may the Lord repay to him according to his works,

15 G uàrdati anche tu da lui, perché egli si è opposto violentemente alle nostre parole.

of whom also do thou beware, for greatly hath he stood against our words;

16 N ella mia prima difesa nessuno si è trovato al mio fianco, ma tutti mi hanno abbandonato; ciò non venga loro imputato!

in my first defence no one stood with me, but all forsook me, (may it not be reckoned to them!)

17 I l Signore però mi ha assistito e mi ha reso forte, affinché per mezzo mio il messaggio fosse pienamente proclamato e lo ascoltassero tutti i pagani; e sono stato liberato dalle fauci del leone.

and the Lord stood by me, and did strengthen me, that through me the preaching might be fully assured, and all the nations might hear, and I was freed out of the mouth of a lion,

18 I l Signore mi libererà da ogni azione malvagia e mi salverà nel suo regno celeste. A lui sia la gloria nei secoli dei secoli. Amen.

and the Lord shall free me from every evil work, and shall save -- to his heavenly kingdom; to whom the glory to the ages of the ages! Amen.

be diligent to come before winter. Salute thee doth Eubulus, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren.

22 I l Signore sia con il tuo spirito. La grazia sia con voi.
