1 G iuseppe andò a informare il faraone e gli disse: «Mio padre e i miei fratelli, con le loro greggi, con i loro armenti e con tutto quello che hanno, sono venuti dal paese di Canaan; ecco, sono nella terra di Goscen».

And Joseph cometh, and declareth to Pharaoh, and saith, `My father, and my brethren, and their flock, and their herd, and all they have, have come from the land of Canaan, and lo, they in the land of Goshen.'

2 P oi prese cinque uomini tra i suoi fratelli e li presentò al faraone.

And out of his brethren he hath taken five men, and setteth them before Pharaoh;

3 I l faraone disse ai fratelli di Giuseppe: «Qual è la vostra occupazione?» Essi risposero al faraone: «I tuoi servi sono pastori, come lo furono i nostri padri».

and Pharaoh saith unto his brethren, `What your works?' and they say unto Pharaoh, `Thy servants feeders of a flock, both we and our fathers;'

4 P oi dissero al faraone: «Siamo venuti ad abitare in questo paese, perché nel paese di Canaan non ci sono pascoli per le greggi dei tuoi servi; poiché la carestia è grave, permetti ora che i tuoi servi abitino nella terra di Goscen».

and they say unto Pharaoh, `To sojourn in the land we have come, for there is no pasture for the flock which thy servants have, for grievous the famine in the land of Canaan; and now, let thy servants, we pray thee, dwell in the land of Goshen.'

5 I l faraone parlò a Giuseppe dicendo: «Tuo padre e i tuoi fratelli sono venuti da te;

And Pharaoh speaketh unto Joseph, saying, `Thy father and thy brethren have come unto thee:

6 i l paese d’Egitto sta davanti a te. Fa’ abitare tuo padre e i tuoi fratelli nella parte migliore del paese; risiedano pure nella terra di Goscen. Se conosci tra di loro degli uomini capaci, falli sovraintendenti del mio bestiame».

the land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land cause thy father and thy brethren to dwell -- they dwell in the land of Goshen, and if thou hast known, and there are among them men of ability, then thou hast set them heads over the cattle I have.'

7 P oi Giuseppe fece venire Giacobbe, suo padre, dal faraone e glielo presentò. E Giacobbe benedisse il faraone.

And Joseph bringeth in Jacob his father, and causeth him to stand before Pharaoh; and Jacob blesseth Pharaoh.

8 I l faraone disse a Giacobbe: «Quanti sono gli anni della tua vita?»

And Pharaoh saith unto Jacob, `How many the days of the years of thy life?'

9 G iacobbe rispose al faraone: «Gli anni della mia vita nomade sono centotrenta. I miei anni sono stati pochi e travagliati e non hanno raggiunto il numero degli anni dei miei padri, al tempo della loro vita nomade».

And Jacob saith unto Pharaoh, `The days of the years of my sojournings an hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not reached the days of the years of the life of my fathers, in the days of their sojournings.'

10 G iacobbe benedisse ancora il faraone e si ritirò dalla sua presenza.

And Jacob blesseth Pharaoh, and goeth out from before Pharaoh.

11 G iuseppe fece abitare suo padre e i suoi fratelli, diede loro una proprietà nel paese d’Egitto, nella parte migliore del paese, nel territorio di Ramses, come il faraone aveva ordinato.

And Joseph settleth his father and his brethren, and giveth to them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh commanded;

12 G iuseppe fornì pane a suo padre, ai suoi fratelli e a tutta la famiglia di suo padre, secondo il numero dei figli.

and Joseph nourisheth his father, and his brethren, and all the house of his father bread, according to the mouth of the infants.

13 I n tutto il paese non c’era pane, perché la carestia era gravissima; il paese d’Egitto e il paese di Canaan soffrivano a causa della carestia.

And there is no bread in all the land, for the famine very grievous, and the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan are feeble because of the famine;

14 G iuseppe raccolse tutto il denaro che si trovava nel paese d’Egitto e nel paese di Canaan, come prezzo del grano che si comprava; Giuseppe portò questo denaro nella casa del faraone.

and Joseph gathereth all the silver that is found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn that they are buying, and Joseph bringeth the silver into the house of Pharaoh.

15 Q uando il denaro fu esaurito nel paese d’Egitto e nel paese di Canaan, tutti gli Egiziani vennero da Giuseppe e dissero: «Dacci del pane! Perché dovremmo morire in tua presenza? Infatti il denaro è finito».

And the silver is consumed out of the land of Egypt, and out of the land of Canaan, and all the Egyptians come in unto Joseph, saying, `Give to us bread -- why do we die before thee, though the money hath ceased?'

16 G iuseppe disse: «Se non avete più denaro, date il vostro bestiame e io vi darò del pane in cambio del vostro bestiame».

and Joseph saith, `Give your cattle; and I give to you for your cattle, if the money hath ceased.'

17 Q uelli condussero a Giuseppe il loro bestiame e Giuseppe diede loro del pane in cambio dei loro cavalli, delle loro greggi di pecore, delle loro mandrie di buoi e dei loro asini. Così fornì loro del pane quell’anno, in cambio di tutto il loro bestiame.

And they bring in their cattle unto Joseph, and Joseph giveth to them bread, for the horses, and for the cattle of the flock, and for the cattle of the herd, and for the asses; and he tendeth them with bread, for all their cattle, during that year.

18 P assato quell’anno, tornarono da lui l’anno seguente e gli dissero: «Noi non nasconderemo al mio signore che il denaro è esaurito e le mandrie del nostro bestiame sono passate al mio signore. Non resta più nulla che il mio signore possa prendere, tranne i nostri corpi e le nostre terre.

And that year is finished, and they come in unto him on the second year, and say to him, `We do not hide from my lord, that since the money hath been finished, and possession of the cattle unto my lord, there hath not been left before my lord save our bodies, and our ground;

19 P erché dovremmo morire sotto i tuoi occhi, noi e le nostre terre? Compra noi e le nostre terre in cambio del pane; noi con le nostre terre saremo schiavi del faraone. Dacci della semenza perché possiamo vivere e non morire, e il suolo non diventi un deserto».

why do we die before thine eyes, both we and our ground? buy us and our ground for bread, and we and our ground are servants to Pharaoh; and give seed, and we live, and die not, and the ground is not desolate.'

20 C osì Giuseppe comprò per il faraone tutte le terre d’Egitto; infatti gli Egiziani vendettero ognuno il proprio campo, perché la carestia li colpiva gravemente. Così il paese diventò proprietà del faraone.

And Joseph buyeth all the ground of Egypt for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians have sold each his field, for the famine hath been severe upon them, and the land becometh Pharaoh's;

21 Q uanto al popolo, lo trasferì nelle città, da un capo all’altro dell’Egitto.

as to the people he hath removed them to cities from the end of the border of Egypt even unto its end.

22 S olo le terre dei sacerdoti non acquistò, perché i sacerdoti ricevevano un’assegnazione stabilita per loro dal faraone e mangiavano grazie all’assegnazione fatta dal faraone; per questo essi non vendettero le loro terre.

Only the ground of the priests he hath not bought, for the priests have a portion from Pharaoh, and they have eaten their portion which Pharaoh hath given to them, therefore they have not sold their ground.

23 G iuseppe disse al popolo: «Ecco, oggi ho acquistato voi e le vostre terre per il faraone. Eccovi del seme; seminate la terra.

And Joseph saith unto the people, `Lo, I have bought you to-day and your ground for Pharaoh; lo, seed for you, and ye have sown the ground,

24 A l tempo della raccolta, ne darete il quinto al faraone; quattro parti saranno vostre, per seminare i campi e per nutrirvi con quelli che sono in casa vostra e con i vostri bambini».

and it hath come to pass in the increases, that ye have given a fifth to Pharaoh, and four of the parts are for yourselves, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for those who in your houses, and for food for your infants.'

25 Q uelli dissero: «Tu ci hai salvato la vita! Ci sia dato di trovar grazia agli occhi del nostro signore e saremo schiavi del faraone!»

And they say, `Thou hast revived us; we find grace in the eyes of my lord, and have been servants to Pharaoh;'

26 G iuseppe ne fece una legge, che dura fino al giorno d’oggi, secondo la quale un quinto del reddito delle terre d’Egitto era per il faraone. Soltanto le terre dei sacerdoti non diventarono del faraone.

and Joseph setteth it for a statute unto this day, concerning the ground of Egypt, Pharaoh hath a fifth; only the ground of the priests alone hath not become Pharaoh's.

27 C osì gli Israeliti abitarono nel paese d’Egitto, nella terra di Goscen; ebbero delle proprietà, furono fecondi e si moltiplicarono oltremodo.

And Israel dwelleth in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen, and they have possession in it, and are fruitful, and multiply exceedingly;

28 G iacobbe visse nel paese d’Egitto diciassette anni; la durata della vita di Giacobbe fu di centoquarantasette anni.

and Jacob liveth in the land of Egypt seventeen years, and the days of Jacob, the years of his life, are an hundred and forty and seven years.

29 Q uando Israele s’avvicinò al giorno della sua morte, chiamò suo figlio Giuseppe e gli disse: «Ti prego, se ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi, mettimi la tua mano sotto la coscia e usami bontà e fedeltà; non seppellirmi in Egitto!

And the days of Israel are near to die, and he calleth for his son, for Joseph, and saith to him, `If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and thou hast done with me kindness and truth; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt,

30 M a, quando giacerò con i miei padri, portami fuori d’Egitto e seppelliscimi nella loro tomba!»

and I have lain with my fathers, and thou hast borne me out of Egypt, and buried me in their burying-place.' And he saith, `I -- I do according to thy word;'

31 E gli rispose: «Farò come tu dici». Giacobbe disse: «Giuramelo». Giuseppe glielo giurò. Israele, rivolto al capo del letto, adorò.

and he saith, `Swear to me;' and he sweareth to him, and Israel boweth himself on the head of the bed.
