1 J osé foi dar as notícias ao faraó: “Meu pai e meus irmãos chegaram de Canaã com suas ovelhas, seus bois e tudo o que lhes pertence, e estão agora em Gósen”.

And Joseph cometh, and declareth to Pharaoh, and saith, `My father, and my brethren, and their flock, and their herd, and all they have, have come from the land of Canaan, and lo, they in the land of Goshen.'

2 D epois escolheu cinco de seus irmãos e os apresentou ao faraó.

And out of his brethren he hath taken five men, and setteth them before Pharaoh;

3 P erguntou-lhes o faraó: “Em que vocês trabalham?” Eles lhe responderam: “Teus servos são pastores, como os nossos antepassados”.

and Pharaoh saith unto his brethren, `What your works?' and they say unto Pharaoh, `Thy servants feeders of a flock, both we and our fathers;'

4 D isseram-lhe ainda: “Viemos morar aqui por uns tempos, porque a fome é rigorosa em Canaã, e os rebanhos de teus servos não têm pastagem. Agora, por favor, permite que teus servos se estabeleçam em Gósen”.

and they say unto Pharaoh, `To sojourn in the land we have come, for there is no pasture for the flock which thy servants have, for grievous the famine in the land of Canaan; and now, let thy servants, we pray thee, dwell in the land of Goshen.'

5 E ntão o faraó disse a José: “Seu pai e seus irmãos vieram a você,

And Pharaoh speaketh unto Joseph, saying, `Thy father and thy brethren have come unto thee:

6 e a terra do Egito está a sua disposição; faça com que seu pai e seus irmãos habitem na melhor parte da terra. Deixe-os morar em Gósen. E se você vê que alguns deles são competentes, coloque-os como responsáveis por meu rebanho”.

the land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land cause thy father and thy brethren to dwell -- they dwell in the land of Goshen, and if thou hast known, and there are among them men of ability, then thou hast set them heads over the cattle I have.'

7 E ntão José levou seu pai Jacó ao faraó e o apresentou a ele. Depois Jacó abençoou o faraó,

And Joseph bringeth in Jacob his father, and causeth him to stand before Pharaoh; and Jacob blesseth Pharaoh.

8 e este lhe perguntou: “Quantos anos o senhor tem?”

And Pharaoh saith unto Jacob, `How many the days of the years of thy life?'

9 J acó respondeu ao faraó: “São cento e trinta os anos da minha peregrinação. Foram poucos e difíceis e não chegam aos anos da peregrinação dos meus antepassados”.

And Jacob saith unto Pharaoh, `The days of the years of my sojournings an hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not reached the days of the years of the life of my fathers, in the days of their sojournings.'

10 E ntão, Jacó abençoou o faraó e retirou-se.

And Jacob blesseth Pharaoh, and goeth out from before Pharaoh.

11 J osé instalou seu pai e seus irmãos e deu-lhes propriedade na melhor parte das terras do Egito, na região de Ramessés, conforme a ordem do faraó.

And Joseph settleth his father and his brethren, and giveth to them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh commanded;

12 P rovidenciou também sustento para seu pai, para seus irmãos e para toda a sua família, de acordo com o número de filhos de cada um. Os Anos de Fome

and Joseph nourisheth his father, and his brethren, and all the house of his father bread, according to the mouth of the infants.

13 N ão havia mantimento em toda a região, pois a fome era rigorosa; tanto o Egito como Canaã desfaleciam por causa da fome.

And there is no bread in all the land, for the famine very grievous, and the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan are feeble because of the famine;

14 J osé recolheu toda a prata que circulava no Egito e em Canaã, dada como pagamento do trigo que o povo comprava, e levou-a ao palácio do faraó.

and Joseph gathereth all the silver that is found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn that they are buying, and Joseph bringeth the silver into the house of Pharaoh.

15 Q uando toda a prata do Egito e de Canaã se esgotou, todos os egípcios foram suplicar a José: “Dá-nos comida! Não nos deixes morrer só porque a nossa prata acabou”.

And the silver is consumed out of the land of Egypt, and out of the land of Canaan, and all the Egyptians come in unto Joseph, saying, `Give to us bread -- why do we die before thee, though the money hath ceased?'

16 E José lhes disse: “Tragam então os seus rebanhos, e em troca lhes darei trigo, uma vez que a prata de vocês acabou”.

and Joseph saith, `Give your cattle; and I give to you for your cattle, if the money hath ceased.'

17 E trouxeram a José os rebanhos, e ele deu-lhes trigo em troca de cavalos, ovelhas, bois e jumentos. Durante aquele ano inteiro ele os sustentou em troca de todos os seus rebanhos.

And they bring in their cattle unto Joseph, and Joseph giveth to them bread, for the horses, and for the cattle of the flock, and for the cattle of the herd, and for the asses; and he tendeth them with bread, for all their cattle, during that year.

18 O ano passou, e no ano seguinte voltaram a José, dizendo: “Não temos como esconder de ti, meu senhor, que uma vez que a nossa prata acabou e os nossos rebanhos lhe pertencem, nada mais nos resta para oferecer, a não ser os nossos próprios corpos e as nossas terras.

And that year is finished, and they come in unto him on the second year, and say to him, `We do not hide from my lord, that since the money hath been finished, and possession of the cattle unto my lord, there hath not been left before my lord save our bodies, and our ground;

19 N ão deixes que morramos e que as nossas terras pereçam diante dos teus olhos! Compra-nos, e compra as nossas terras, em troca de trigo, e nós, com as nossas terras, seremos escravos do faraó. Dá-nos sementes para que sobrevivamos e não morramos de fome, a fim de que a terra não fique desolada”.

why do we die before thine eyes, both we and our ground? buy us and our ground for bread, and we and our ground are servants to Pharaoh; and give seed, and we live, and die not, and the ground is not desolate.'

20 A ssim, José comprou todas as terras do Egito para o faraó. Todos os egípcios tiveram que vender os seus campos, pois a fome os obrigou a isso. A terra tornou-se propriedade do faraó.

And Joseph buyeth all the ground of Egypt for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians have sold each his field, for the famine hath been severe upon them, and the land becometh Pharaoh's;

21 Q uanto ao povo, José o reduziu à servidão, de uma à outra extremidade do Egito.

as to the people he hath removed them to cities from the end of the border of Egypt even unto its end.

22 S omente as terras dos sacerdotes não foram compradas, porque, por lei, esses recebiam sustento regular do faraó, e disso viviam. Por isso não tiveram que vender as suas terras.

Only the ground of the priests he hath not bought, for the priests have a portion from Pharaoh, and they have eaten their portion which Pharaoh hath given to them, therefore they have not sold their ground.

23 E ntão José disse ao povo: “Ouçam! Hoje comprei vocês e suas terras para o faraó; aqui estão as sementes para que cultivem a terra.

And Joseph saith unto the people, `Lo, I have bought you to-day and your ground for Pharaoh; lo, seed for you, and ye have sown the ground,

24 M as vocês darão a quinta parte das suas colheitas ao faraó. Os outros quatro quintos ficarão para vocês como sementes para os campos e como alimento para vocês, seus filhos e os que vivem em suas casas”.

and it hath come to pass in the increases, that ye have given a fifth to Pharaoh, and four of the parts are for yourselves, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for those who in your houses, and for food for your infants.'

25 E les disseram: “Meu senhor, tu nos salvaste a vida. Visto que nos favoreceste, seremos escravos do faraó”.

And they say, `Thou hast revived us; we find grace in the eyes of my lord, and have been servants to Pharaoh;'

26 A ssim, quanto à terra, José estabeleceu o seguinte decreto no Egito, que permanece até hoje: um quinto da produção pertence ao faraó. Somente as terras dos sacerdotes não se tornaram propriedade do faraó. O Último Desejo de Jacó

and Joseph setteth it for a statute unto this day, concerning the ground of Egypt, Pharaoh hath a fifth; only the ground of the priests alone hath not become Pharaoh's.

27 O s israelitas se estabeleceram no Egito, na região de Gósen. Lá adquiriram propriedades, foram prolíferos e multiplicaram-se muito.

And Israel dwelleth in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen, and they have possession in it, and are fruitful, and multiply exceedingly;

28 J acó viveu dezessete anos no Egito, e os anos da sua vida chegaram a cento e quarenta e sete.

and Jacob liveth in the land of Egypt seventeen years, and the days of Jacob, the years of his life, are an hundred and forty and seven years.

29 A proximando-se a hora da sua morte, Israel chamou seu filho José e lhe disse: “Se quer agradar-me, ponha a mão debaixo da minha coxa e prometa que será bondoso e fiel comigo: Não me sepulte no Egito.

And the days of Israel are near to die, and he calleth for his son, for Joseph, and saith to him, `If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and thou hast done with me kindness and truth; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt,

30 Q uando eu descansar com meus pais, leve-me daqui do Egito e sepulte-me junto a eles”. José respondeu: “Farei como o senhor me pede”.

and I have lain with my fathers, and thou hast borne me out of Egypt, and buried me in their burying-place.' And he saith, `I -- I do according to thy word;'

31 M as Jacó insistiu: “Jure-me”. E José lhe jurou, e Israel curvou-se apoiado em seu bordão.

and he saith, `Swear to me;' and he sweareth to him, and Israel boweth himself on the head of the bed.
