1 E u sou o homem que viu a aflição trazida pela vara da sua ira.

I the man hath seen affliction By the rod of His wrath.

2 E le me impeliu e me fez andar na escuridão, e não na luz;

Me He hath led, and causeth to go darkness, and without light.

3 s im, ele voltou sua mão contra mim vez após vez, o tempo todo.

Surely against me He turneth back, He turneth His hand all the day.

4 F ez que a minha pele e a minha carne envelhecessem e quebrou os meus ossos.

He hath worn out my flesh and my skin. He hath broken my bones.

5 E le me sitiou e me cercou de amargura e de pesar.

He hath built up against me, And setteth round poverty and weariness.

6 F ez-me habitar na escuridão como os que há muito morreram.

In dark places He hath caused me to dwell, As the dead of old.

7 C ercou-me de muros, e não posso escapar; atou-me a pesadas correntes.

He hath hedged me about, and I go not out, He hath made heavy my fetter.

8 M esmo quando chamo ou grito por socorro, ele rejeita a minha oração.

Also when I call and cry out, He hath shut out my prayer.

9 E le impediu o meu caminho com blocos de pedra; e fez tortuosas as minhas sendas.

He hath hedged my ways with hewn work, My paths He hath made crooked.

10 C omo um urso à espreita, como um leão escondido,

A bear lying in wait He to me, A lion in secret hiding-places.

11 a rrancou-me do caminho e despedaçou-me, deixando-me abandonado.

My ways He is turning aside, and He pulleth me in pieces, He hath made me a desolation.

12 P reparou o seu arco e me fez alvo de suas flechas.

He hath trodden His bow, And setteth me up as a mark for an arrow.

13 A tingiu o meu coração com flechas de sua aljava.

He hath caused to enter into my reins The sons of His quiver.

14 T ornei-me objeto de riso de todo o meu povo; nas suas canções eles zombam de mim o tempo todo.

I have been a derision to all my people, Their song all the day.

15 F ez-me comer ervas amargas e fartou-me de fel.

He hath filled me with bitter things, He hath filled me wormwood.

16 Q uebrou os meus dentes com pedras; e pisoteou-me no pó.

And He breaketh with gravel my teeth, He hath covered me with ashes.

17 T irou-me a paz; esqueci-me o que é prosperidade.

And Thou castest off from peace my soul, I have forgotten prosperity.

18 P or isso digo: “Meu esplendor já se foi, bem como tudo o que eu esperava do Senhor ”.

And I say, Perished hath my strength and my hope from Jehovah.

19 L embro-me da minha aflição e do meu delírio, da minha amargura e do meu pesar.

Remember my affliction and my mourning, Wormwood and gall!

20 L embro-me bem disso tudo, e a minha alma desfalece dentro de mim.

Remember well, and bow down doth my soul in me.

21 T odavia, lembro-me também do que pode me dar esperança:

This I turn to my heart -- therefore I hope.

22 G raças ao grande amor do Senhor é que não somos consumidos, pois as suas misericórdias são inesgotáveis.

The kindnesses of Jehovah! For we have not been consumed, For not ended have His mercies.

23 R enovam-se cada manhã; grande é a sua fidelidade!

New every morning, abundant thy faithfulness.

24 D igo a mim mesmo: A minha porção é o Senhor; portanto, nele porei a minha esperança.

My portion Jehovah, hath my soul said, Therefore I hope for Him.

25 O Senhor é bom para com aqueles cuja esperança está nele, para com aqueles que o buscam;

Good Jehovah to those waiting for Him, To the soul seeketh Him.

26 é bom esperar tranqüilo pela salvação do Senhor.

Good! when one doth stay and stand still For the salvation of Jehovah.

27 É bom que o homem suporte o jugo enquanto é jovem.

Good for a man that he beareth a yoke in his youth.

28 L eve-o sozinho e em silêncio, porque o Senhor o pôs sobre ele.

He sitteth alone, and is silent, For He hath laid upon him.

29 P onha o seu rosto no pó; talvez ainda haja esperança.

He putteth in the dust his mouth, if so be there is hope.

30 O fereça o rosto a quem o quer ferir, e engula a desonra.

He giveth to his smiter the cheek, He is filled with reproach.

31 P orque o Senhor não o desprezará para sempre.

For the Lord doth not cast off to the age.

32 E mbora ele traga tristeza, mostrará compaixão, tão grande é o seu amor infalível.

For though He afflicted, yet He hath pitied, According to the abundance of His kindness.

33 P orque não é do seu agrado trazer aflição e tristeza aos filhos dos homens,

For He hath not afflicted with His heart, Nor doth He grieve the sons of men.

34 e smagar com os pés todos os prisioneiros da terra,

To bruise under one's feet any bound ones of earth,

35 n egar a alguém os seus direitos, enfrentando o Altíssimo,

To turn aside the judgment of a man, Over-against the face of the Most High,

36 i mpedir a alguém o acesso à justiça; não veria o Senhor tais coisas?

To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord hath not approved.

37 Q uem poderá falar e fazer acontecer, se o Senhor não o tiver decretado?

Who this -- he hath said, and it is, the Lord hath not commanded ?

38 N ão é da boca do Altíssimo que vêm tanto as desgraças como as bênçãos?

From the mouth of the Most High Go not forth the evils and the good.

39 C omo pode um homem reclamar quando é punido por seus pecados?

What -- sigh habitually doth a living man, A man for his sin?

40 E xaminemos e coloquemos à prova os nossos caminhos, e depois voltemos ao Senhor.

We search our ways, and investigate, And turn back unto Jehovah.

41 L evantemos o coração e as mãos para Deus, que está nos céus, e digamos:

We lift up our heart on the hands unto God in the heavens.

42 “ Pecamos e nos rebelamos, e tu não nos perdoaste.

We -- we have transgressed and rebelled, Thou -- Thou hast not forgiven.

43 T u te cobriste de ira e nos perseguiste, massacraste-nos sem piedade.

Thou hast covered Thyself with anger, And dost pursue us; Thou hast slain -- Thou hast not pitied.

44 T u te escondeste atrás de uma nuvem para que nenhuma oração chegasse a ti.

Thou hast covered Thyself with a cloud, So that prayer doth not pass through.

45 T u nos tornaste escória e refugo entre as nações.

Offscouring and refuse Thou dost make us In the midst of the peoples.

46 T odos os nossos inimigos escancaram a boca contra nós.

Opened against us their mouth have all our enemies.

47 S ofremos terror e ciladas, ruína e destruição”.

Fear and a snare hath been for us, Desolation and destruction.

48 R ios de lágrimas correm dos meus olhos porque o meu povo foi destruído.

Rivulets of water go down my eye, For the destruction of the daughter of my people.

49 M eus olhos choram sem parar, sem nenhum descanso,

Mine eye is poured out, And doth not cease without intermission,

50 a té que o Senhor contemple dos céus e veja.

Till Jehovah looketh and seeth from the heavens,

51 O que eu enxergo enche-me a alma de tristeza, de pena de todas as mulheres da minha cidade.

My eye affecteth my soul, Because of all the daughters of my city.

52 A queles que, sem motivo, eram meus inimigos caçaram-me como a um passarinho.

Hunted me sore as a bird have my enemies without cause.

53 P rocuraram fazer minha vida acabar na cova e me jogaram pedras;

They have cut off in a pit my life, And they cast a stone against me.

54 a s águas me encobriram a cabeça, e cheguei a pensar que o fim de tudo tinha chegado.

Flowed have waters over my head, I have said, I have been cut off.

55 C lamei pelo teu nome, Senhor, das profundezas da cova.

I called Thy name, O Jehovah, from the lower pit.

56 T u ouviste o meu clamor: “Não feches os teus ouvidos aos meus gritos de socorro”.

My voice Thou hast heard, Hide not Thine ear at my breathing -- at my cry.

57 T u te aproximaste quando a ti clamei, e disseste: “Não tenha medo”.

Thou hast drawn near in the day I call Thee, Thou hast said, Fear not.

58 S enhor, tu assumiste a minha causa; e redimiste a minha vida.

Thou hast pleaded, O Lord, the pleadings of my soul, Thou hast redeemed my life.

59 T u tens visto, Senhor, o mal que me tem sido feito. Toma a teu cargo a minha causa!

Thou hast seen, O Jehovah, my overthrow, Judge Thou my cause.

60 T u viste como é terrível a vingança deles, todas as suas ciladas contra mim.

Thou hast seen all their vengeance, All their thoughts of me.

61 S enhor, tu ouviste os seus insultos, todas as suas ciladas contra mim,

Thou hast heard their reproach, O Jehovah, All their thoughts against me,

62 a quilo que os meus inimigos sussurram e murmuram o tempo todo contra mim.

The lips of my withstanders, Even their meditation against me all the day.

63 O lha para eles! Sentados ou em pé, zombam de mim com as suas canções.

Their sitting down, and their rising up, Behold attentively, I their song.

64 D á-lhes o que merecem, Senhor, conforme o que as suas mãos têm feito.

Thou returnest to them the deed, O Jehovah, According to the work of their hands.

65 C oloca um véu sobre os seus corações e esteja a tua maldição sobre eles.

Thou givest to them a covered heart, Thy curse to them.

66 P ersegue-os com fúria e elimina-os de debaixo dos teus céus, ó Senhor.

Thou pursuest in anger, and destroyest them, From under the heavens of Jehovah!
