1 E sta é a palavra que o Senhor falou pelo profeta Jeremias acerca da Babilônia e da terra dos babilônios:

The word that Jehovah hath spoken concerning Babylon, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet:

2 “ Anunciem e proclamem entre as nações, ergam um sinal e proclamem; não escondam nada. Digam: ‘A Babilônia foi conquistada; Bel foi humilhado, Marduque está apavorado. As imagens da Babilônia estão humilhadas e seus ídolos apavorados’.

`Declare ye among nations, and sound, And lift up an ensign, sound, do not hide, Say ye: Captured hath been Babylon, Put to shame hath been Bel, Broken hath been Merodach, Put to shame have been her grievous things, Broken have been her idols.

3 U ma nação vinda do norte a atacará, arrasará a sua terra e não deixará nela nenhum habitante; tanto homens como animais fugirão.

For come up against her hath a nation from the north, It maketh her land become a desolation, And there is not an inhabitant in it. From man even unto beast, They have moved, they have gone.

4 “ Naqueles dias e naquela época”, declara o Senhor, “o povo de Israel e o povo de Judá virão juntos, chorando e buscando o Senhor, o seu Deus.

In those days, and at that time, An affirmation of Jehovah, Come in do sons of Israel, They and sons of Judah together, Going on and weeping they go, And Jehovah their God they seek.

5 P erguntarão pelo caminho para Sião e voltarão o rosto na direção dela. Virão e se apegarão ao Senhor numa aliança permanente que não será esquecida.

Zion they ask the way, Thitherward their faces: Come in, and we are joined unto Jehovah, A covenant age-during -- not forgotten.

6 “ Meu povo tem sido ovelhas perdidas; seus pastores as desencaminharam e as fizeram perambular pelos montes. Elas vaguearam por montanhas e colinas e se esqueceram de seu próprio curral.

A perishing flock hath My people been, Their shepherds have caused them to err, the mountains causing them to go back, From mountain unto hill they have gone, They have forgotten their crouching-place.

7 T odos que as encontram as devoram. Os seus adversários disseram: ‘Não somos culpados, pois elas pecaram contra o Senhor, sua verdadeira pastagem, o Senhor, a esperança de seus antepassados’.

All finding them have devoured them, And their adversaries have said: We are not guilty, Because that they sinned against Jehovah, The habitation of righteousness, And the hope of their fathers -- Jehovah.

8 “ Fujam da Babilônia; saiam da terra dos babilônios e sejam como os bodes que lideram o rebanho.

Move ye from the midst of Babylon, And from the land of the Chaldeans go out. And be as he-goats before a flock.

9 V ejam! Eu mobilizarei e trarei contra a Babilônia uma coalizão de grandes nações do norte. Elas tomarão posição de combate contra ela e a conquistarão. Suas flechas serão como guerreiros bem treinados, que não voltam de mãos vazias.

For, lo, I am stirring up, And am causing to come up against Babylon, An assembly of great nations from a land of the north, And they have set in array against her, From thence she is captured, Its arrow -- as a skilful hero -- returneth not empty,

10 A ssim a Babilônia será saqueada; todos os que a saquearem se fartarão”, declara o Senhor.

And Chaldea hath been for a spoil, All her spoilers are satisfied, An affirmation of Jehovah.

11 “ Ainda que você esteja alegre e exultante, você que saqueia a minha herança; ainda que você seja brincalhão como uma novilha solta no pasto, e relinche como os garanhões,

Because thou rejoicest, because thou exultest, O spoilers of Mine inheritance, Because thou increasest as a heifer the tender grass, And dost cry aloud as bulls,

12 s ua mãe se envergonhará profundamente; aquela que lhe deu à luz ficará constrangida. Ela se tornará a menor das nações, um deserto, uma terra seca e árida.

Ashamed hath been your mother greatly, Confounded hath she been that bare you, Lo, the hindermost of nations a wilderness, A dry land, and a desert.

13 P or causa da ira do Senhor ela não será habitada, mas estará completamente desolada. Todos os que passarem pela Babilônia ficarão chocados e zombarão por causa de todas as suas feridas.

Because of the wrath of Jehovah it is not inhabited, And it hath been a desolation -- all of it. Every passer by at Babylon is astonished, And doth hiss because of all her plagues.

14 “ Tomem posição de combate em volta da Babilônia, todos vocês que empunham o arco. Atirem nela! Não poupem flechas, pois ela pecou contra o Senhor.

Set yourselves in array against Babylon round about, All ye treading a bow, Shoot at her, have no pity on the arrow, For against Jehovah she hath sinned.

15 S oem contra ela um grito de guerra de todos os lados! Ela se rende, suas torres caem e suas muralhas são derrubadas. Esta é a vingança do Senhor; vinguem-se dela! Façam a ela o que ela fez aos outros!

Shout against her round about, She hath given forth her hand, Fallen have her foundations, Thrown down have been her walls, For it the vengeance of Jehovah, Be avenged of her, as she did -- do ye to her.

16 E liminem da Babilônia o semeador e o ceifeiro, com a sua foice na colheita. Por causa da espada do opressor, que cada um volte para o seu próprio povo, e cada um fuja para a sua própria terra.

Cut off the sower from Babylon, And him handling the sickle in the time of harvest, Because of the oppressing sword, Each unto his people -- they turn, And each to his land -- they flee.

17 “ Israel é um rebanho disperso, afugentado por leões. O primeiro a devorá-lo foi o rei da Assíria; e o último a esmagar os seus ossos foi Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia”.

A scattered sheep is Israel, lions have driven away, At first, devour him did the king of Asshur, And now, at last, broken his bone Hath Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon.

18 P ortanto, assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: “Castigarei o rei da Babilônia e a sua terra assim como castiguei o rei da Assíria.

Therefore thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Lo, I am seeing after the king of Babylon, And after his land, As I have seen after the king of Asshur;

19 M as trarei Israel de volta a sua própria pastagem e ele pastará no Carmelo e em Basã; e saciará o seu apetite nos montes de Efraim e em Gileade.

And I have brought back Israel unto his habitation, And he hath fed on Carmel, and on Bashan. And in mount Ephraim, and on Gilead is his soul satisfied.

20 N aqueles dias, naquela época”, declara o Senhor, “se procurará pela iniqüidade de Israel, mas nada será achado, pelos pecados de Judá, mas nenhum será encontrado, pois perdoarei o remanescente que eu poupar.

In those days, and at that time, An affirmation of Jehovah, Sought is the iniquity of Israel, and it is not, And the sin of Judah, and it is not found, For I am propitious to those whom I leave!

21 “ Ataquem a terra de Merataim e aqueles que moram em Pecode. Persigam-nos, matem-nos e destruam-nos totalmente”, declara o Senhor. “Façam tudo o que lhes ordenei.

Against the land of Merathaim: Go up against it, and unto the inhabitants of Pekod, Waste and devote their posterity, An affirmation of Jehovah, And do according to all that I have commanded thee.

22 H á ruído de batalha na terra; grande destruição!

A noise of battle in the land, and of great destruction.

23 Q uão quebrado e destroçado está o martelo de toda a terra! Quão arrasada está a Babilônia entre as nações!

How hath it been cut and broken, The hammer of the whole earth! How hath Babylon been for a desolation among nations!

24 P reparei uma armadilha para você, ó Babilônia, e você foi apanhada antes de percebê-lo; você foi achada e capturada porque se opôs ao Senhor.

I have laid a snare for thee, And also -- thou art captured, O Babylon, And thou -- thou hast known, Thou hast been found, and also art caught, For against Jehovah thou hast stirred thyself up.

25 O Senhor abriu o seu arsenal e trouxe para fora as armas da sua ira, pois o Soberano, o Senhor dos Exércitos, tem trabalho para fazer na terra dos babilônios.

Jehovah hath opened His treasury, And He bringeth out the weapons of His indignation, For a work to the Lord Jehovah of Hosts, In the land of the Chaldeans.

26 V enham contra ela dos confins da terra. Arrombem os seus celeiros; empilhem-na como feixes de cereal. Destruam-na totalmente e não lhe deixem nenhum remanescente.

Come ye in to her from the extremity, Open ye her storehouses, Raise her up as heaps, and devote her, Let her have no remnant.

27 M atem todos os seus jovens guerreiros! Que eles desçam para o matadouro! Ai deles! Pois chegou o seu dia, a hora de serem castigados.

Slay all her kine, they go down to slaughter, Wo on them, for come hath their day, The time of their inspection.

28 E scutem os fugitivos e refugiados vindos da Babilônia, declarando em Sião como o Senhor, o nosso Deus, se vingou, como se vingou de seu templo.

A voice of fugitives and escaped ones from the land of Babylon, To declare in Zion the vengeance of Jehovah our God, The vengeance of His temple.

29 “ Convoquem flecheiros contra a Babilônia, todos aqueles que empunham o arco. Acampem-se todos ao redor dela; não deixem ninguém escapar. Retribuam a ela conforme os seus feitos; façam com ela tudo o que ela fez. Porque ela desafiou o Senhor, o Santo de Israel.

Summon unto Babylon archers, all treading the bow, Encamp against her round about, Let have no escape; Recompense to her according to her work, According to all that she did -- do to her, For unto Jehovah she hath been proud, Unto the Holy One of Israel.

30 P or isso, os seus jovens cairão nas ruas e todos os seus guerreiros se calarão naquele dia”, declara o Senhor.

Therefore fall do her young men in her broad places, And all her men of war are cut off in that day, An affirmation of Jehovah.

31 “ Veja, estou contra você, ó arrogante”, declara o Soberano, o Senhor dos Exércitos, “pois chegou o seu dia, a sua hora de ser castigada.

Lo, I against thee, O pride, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah of Hosts, For thy day hath come, the time of thy inspection.

32 A arrogância tropeçará e cairá, e ninguém a ajudará a se levantar. Incendiarei as suas cidades, e o fogo consumirá tudo ao seu redor”.

And stumbled hath pride, And he hath fallen, and hath no raiser up, And I have kindled a fire in his cities, And it hath devoured all round about him.

33 A ssim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: “O povo de Israel está sendo oprimido, e também o povo de Judá. Todos os seus captores os prendem à força, recusando deixá-los ir.

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Oppressed are the sons of Israel, And the sons of Judah together, And all their captors have kept hold on them, They have refused to send them away.

34 C ontudo, o Redentor deles é forte; Senhor dos Exércitos é o seu nome. Ele mesmo defenderá a causa deles, e trará descanso à terra, mas inquietação aos que vivem na Babilônia.

Their Redeemer strong, Jehovah of Hosts His name, He doth thoroughly plead their cause, So as to cause the land to rest, And He hath given trouble to the inhabitants of Babylon.

35 “ Uma espada contra os babilônios!”, declara o Senhor; “contra os que vivem na Babilônia e contra seus líderes e seus sábios!

A sword for the Chaldeans, An affirmation of Jehovah, And it on the inhabitants of Babylon, And on her heads, and on her wise men;

36 U ma espada contra os seus falsos profetas! Eles se tornarão tolos. Uma espada contra os seus guerreiros! Eles ficarão apavorados.

A sword on the princes, And they have become foolish; A sword on her mighty ones, And they have been broken down;

37 U ma espada contra os seus cavalos, contra os seus carros de guerra e contra todos os estrangeiros em suas fileiras! Eles serão como mulheres. Uma espada contra os seus tesouros! Eles serão saqueados.

A sword on his horses and on his chariot, And on all the rabble who in her midst, And they have become women; A sword on her treasuries, And they have been spoiled;

38 U ma espada contra as suas águas! Elas secarão. Porque é uma terra de imagens esculpidas, e eles enlouquecem por causa de seus ídolos horríveis.

A sword on her waters, and they have been dried up, For it a land of graven images, And in idols they do boast themselves.

39 “ Por isso, criaturas do deserto e hienas nela morarão, e as corujas nela habitarão. Ela jamais voltará a ser povoada nem haverá quem nela viva no futuro.

Therefore dwell do Ziim with Iim, Yea, dwelt in her have daughters of the ostrich, And it is not inhabited any more for ever, Nor dwelt in unto all generations.

40 C omo Deus destruiu Sodoma e Gomorra e as cidades vizinhas”, diz o Senhor, “ninguém mais habitará ali, nenhum homem residirá nela.

As overthrown by God with Sodom, And with Gomorrah, and with its neighbours, An affirmation of Jehovah, none doth dwell there, Nor sojourn in her doth a son of man.

41 “ Vejam! Vem vindo um povo do norte; uma grande nação e muitos reis se mobilizam desde os confins da terra.

Lo, a people hath come from the north, Even a great nation, And many kings are stirred up from the sides of the earth.

42 E les empunham o arco e a lança; são cruéis e não têm misericórdia, e o seu barulho é como o bramido do mar. Vêm montados em seus cavalos, em formação de batalha, para atacá-la, ó cidade de Babilônia.

Bow and halbert they seize, Cruel they, and they have no mercy, Their voice as a sea soundeth, and on horses they ride, Set in array as a man for battle, Against thee, O daughter of Babylon.

43 Q uando o rei da Babilônia ouviu relatos sobre eles, as suas mãos amoleceram. A angústia tomou conta dele, dores como as de uma mulher que está dando à luz.

Heard hath the king of Babylon their report, And feeble have been his hands, Distress hath seized him; pain as a travailing woman.

44 C omo um leão que sobe da mata do Jordão em direção aos pastos verdejantes, subitamente eu caçarei a Babilônia pondo-a fora de sua terra. Quem é o escolhido que designarei para isso? Quem é como eu que possa me desafiar? E que pastor pode me resistir?”

Lo, as a lion he cometh up, Because of the rising of the Jordan, Unto the enduring habitation, But I cause to rest, I cause them to run from off her. And who is chosen? on her I lay a charge, For who like Me? And who doth convene Me? And who this shepherd who standeth before Me?

45 P or isso ouçam o que o Senhor planejou contra a Babilônia, o que ele preparou contra a terra dos babilônios: os menores do rebanho serão arrastados, e as pastagens ficarão devastadas por causa deles.

Therefore, hear ye the counsel of Jehovah, That He counselled concerning Babylon, And His devices that He hath devised Concerning the land of the Chaldeans; Drag them out do not little ones of the flock, Doth He not make desolate over them the habitation?

46 A o som da tomada da Babilônia a terra tremerá; o grito deles ressoará entre as nações.

From the voice: Captured was Babylon, Hath the earth been shaken, And a cry among nations hath been heard!
