1 “ Naquele tempo”, declara o Senhor, “os ossos dos reis e dos líderes de Judá, os ossos dos sacerdotes e dos profetas e os ossos do povo de Jerusalém serão retirados dos seus túmulos.

At that time, an affirmation of Jehovah, They bring the bones of the kings of Judah, And the bones of its princes, And the bones of the priests, And the bones of the prophets, And the bones of inhabitants of Jerusalem, Out of their graves,

2 S erão expostos ao sol e à lua e a todos os astros do céu, que eles amaram, aos quais prestaram culto e os quais seguiram, consultaram e adoraram. Não serão ajuntados nem enterrados, antes se tornarão esterco sobre o solo.

And have spread them to sun, and to moon, And to all the host of the heavens, that they have loved, And that they have served, And that they have walked after, And that they have sought, And to which they have bowed themselves, They are not gathered, nor buried, They are for dung on the face of the ground.

3 T odos os sobreviventes dessa nação má preferirão a morte à vida, em todos os lugares para onde eu os expulsar”, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos. O Pecado do Povo e o seu Castigo

And chosen is death rather than life By all the remnant who are left of this evil family, In all the remaining places, whither I have driven them, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.

4 “ Diga a eles: Assim diz o Senhor: “Quando os homens caem, não se levantam mais? Quando alguém se desvia do caminho, não retorna a ele?

And thou hast said unto them: Thus said Jehovah, Do they fall, and not rise? Doth he turn back, and not return?

5 P or que será, então, que este povo se desviou? Por que Jerusalém persiste em desviar-se? Eles apegam-se ao engano e recusam-se a voltar.

Wherefore hath this people of Jerusalem Turned back -- a perpetual backsliding? They have kept hold on deceit, They have refused to turn back.

6 E u ouvi com atenção, mas eles não dizem o que é certo. Ninguém se arrepende de sua maldade e diz: ‘O que foi que eu fiz?’ Cada um se desvia e segue seu próprio curso, como um cavalo que se lança com ímpeto na batalha.

I have given attention, yea, I hearken, They do not speak right, No man hath repented of his wickedness, Saying, What have I done? Every one hath turned to his courses, As a horse is rushing into battle.

7 A té a cegonha no céu conhece as estações que lhe estão determinadas, e a pomba, a andorinha e o tordo observam a época de sua migração. Mas o meu povo não conhece as exigências do Senhor.

Even a stork in the heavens hath known her seasons, And turtle, and swallow, and crane, Have watched the time of their coming, And -- My people have not known the judgment of Jehovah.

8 “ Como vocês podem dizer: ‘Somos sábios, pois temos a lei do Senhor ’, quando na verdade a pena mentirosa dos escribas a transformou em mentira?

How do ye say, We wise, And the law of Jehovah with us? Surely, lo, falsely it hath wrought, The false pen of scribes.

9 O s sábios serão envergonhados; ficarão amedrontados e serão pegos na armadilha. Visto que rejeitaram a palavra do Senhor, que sabedoria é essa que eles têm?

Ashamed have been the wise, They have been affrighted, and are captured, Lo, against a word of Jehovah they kicked, And the wisdom of what -- have they?

10 P or isso, entregarei as suas mulheres a outros homens, e darei os seus campos a outros proprietários. Desde o menor até o maior, todos são gananciosos; tanto os sacerdotes como os profetas, todos praticam a falsidade.

Therefore, I give their wives to others, Their fields to dispossessors, For from the least even unto the greatest, Every one is gaining dishonest gain, From prophet even unto priest, every one is dealing falsely.

11 E les tratam da ferida do meu povo como se ela não fosse grave. ‘Paz, paz’, dizem, quando não há paz alguma.

And they heal the breach of the daughter of my people slightly, Saying, Peace, peace! and there is no peace.

12 F icaram eles envergonhados de sua conduta detestável? Não, eles não sentem vergonha, nem mesmo sabem corar. Portanto, cairão entre os que caem; serão humilhados quando eu os castigar”, declara o Senhor.

They were ashamed when they did abomination! Yea, they are not at all ashamed, And blushing they have not known, Therefore, they do fall among falling ones, In the time of their inspection they stumble, said Jehovah.

13 “ Eu quis recolher a colheita deles”, declara o Senhor. “Mas não há uvas na videira nem figos na figueira; as folhas estão secas. O que lhes dei será tomado deles.”

I utterly consume them, an affirmation of Jehovah, There are no grapes in the vine, Yea, there are no figs in the fig-tree, And the leaf hath faded, And the strength they have passeth from them.

14 P or que estamos sentados aqui? Reúnam-se! Fujamos para as cidades fortificadas e pereçamos ali! Pois o Senhor, o nosso Deus, condenou-nos a perecer e nos deu água envenenada para beber, porque temos pecado contra ele.

Wherefore are we sitting still? Be gathered, and we go in to the fenced cities, And we are silent there, For Jehovah our God hath made us silent, Yea, He causeth us to drink water of gall, For we have sinned against Jehovah.

15 E sperávamos a paz, mas não veio bem algum; esperávamos um tempo de cura, mas há somente terror.

Looking for peace -- and there is no good, For a time of healing, and lo, terror.

16 O resfolegar dos seus cavalos pode-se ouvir desde Dã; ao relinchar dos seus garanhões a terra toda treme. Vieram para devorar esta terra e tudo o que nela existe, a cidade e todos os que nela habitam.

From Dan hath been heard the snorting of his horses, From the voice of the neighings of his mighty ones, Trembled hath all the land, And they come in and consume the land and its fulness, The city and the inhabitants in it.

17 “ Vejam, estou enviando contra vocês serpentes venenosas, que ninguém consegue encantar; elas morderão vocês, e não haverá remédio”, diz o Senhor.

For, lo, I am sending among you serpents, Vipers that have no charmer, And they have bitten you, an affirmation of Jehovah.

18 A tristeza tomou conta de mim; o meu coração desfalece.

My refreshing for me sorrow, For me my heart sick.

19 O uça o grito de socorro da minha filha, do meu povo, grito que se estende por toda esta terra: “O Senhor não está em Sião? Não se acha mais ali o seu rei?” “Por que eles me provocaram à ira com os seus ídolos, com os seus inúteis deuses estrangeiros?”

Lo, the voice of a cry of the daughter of my people from a land afar off, Is Jehovah not in Zion? is her king not in her? Wherefore have they provoked Me with their graven images, With the vanities of a foreigner?

20 P assou a época da colheita, acabou o verão, e não estamos salvos.

Harvest hath passed, summer hath ended, And we -- we have not been saved.

21 E stou arrasado com a devastação sofrida pelo meu povo. Choro muito, e o pavor se apodera de mim.

For a breach of the daughter of my people have I been broken, I have been black, astonishment hath seized me.

22 N ão há bálsamo em Gileade? Não há médico? Por que será, então, que não há sinal de cura para a ferida do meu povo?

Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? For wherefore hath not the health of the daughter of my people gone up?
