1 F altavam apenas dois dias para a Páscoa e para a festa dos pães sem fermento. Os chefes dos sacerdotes e os mestres da lei estavam procurando um meio de flagrar Jesus em algum erro e matá-lo.

And the passover and the unleavened food were after two days, and the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how, by guile, having taken hold of him, they might kill him;

2 M as diziam: “Não durante a festa, para que não haja tumulto entre o povo”.

and they said, `Not in the feast, lest there shall be a tumult of the people.'

3 E stando Jesus em Betânia, reclinado à mesa na casa de um homem conhecido como Simão, o leproso, aproximou-se dele certa mulher com um frasco de alabastro contendo um perfume muito caro, feito de nardo puro. Ela quebrou o frasco e derramou o perfume sobre a cabeça de Jesus.

And he, being in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, at his reclining (at meat), there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment, of spikenard, very precious, and having broken the alabaster box, did pour on his head;

4 A lguns dos presentes começaram a dizer uns aos outros, indignados: “Por que este desperdício de perfume?

and there were certain much displeased within themselves, and saying, `For what hath this waste of the ointment been made?

5 E le poderia ser vendido por trezentos denários, e o dinheiro ser dado aos pobres”. E a repreendiam severamente.

for this could have been sold for more than three hundred denaries, and given to the poor;' and they were murmuring at her.

6 “ Deixem-na em paz”, disse Jesus. “Por que a estão perturbando? Ela praticou uma boa ação para comigo.

And Jesus said, `Let her alone; why are ye giving her trouble? a good work she wrought on me;

7 P ois os pobres vocês sempre terão com vocês, e poderão ajudá-los sempre que o desejarem. Mas a mim vocês nem sempre terão.

for the poor always ye have with you, and whenever ye may will ye are able to do them good, but me ye have not always;

8 E la fez o que pôde. Derramou o perfume em meu corpo antecipadamente, preparando-o para o sepultamento.

what she could she did, she anticipated to anoint my body for the embalming.

9 E u lhes asseguro que onde quer que o evangelho for anunciado, em todo o mundo, também o que ela fez será contado em sua memória.”

Verily I say to you, wherever this good news may be proclaimed in the whole world, what also this woman did shall be spoken of -- for a memorial of her.'

10 E ntão Judas Iscariotes, um dos Doze, dirigiu-se aos chefes dos sacerdotes a fim de lhes entregar Jesus.

And Judas the Iscariot, one of the twelve, went away unto the chief priests that he might deliver him up to them,

11 A proposta muito os alegrou, e lhe prometeram dinheiro. Assim, ele procurava uma oportunidade para entregá-lo. A Ceia do Senhor

and having heard, they were glad, and promised to give him money, and he was seeking how, conveniently, he might deliver him up.

12 N o primeiro dia da festa dos pães sem fermento, quando se costumava sacrificar o cordeiro pascal, os discípulos de Jesus lhe perguntaram: “Aonde queres que vamos e te preparemos a refeição da Páscoa?”

And the first day of the unleavened food, when they were killing the passover, his disciples say to him, `Where wilt thou, having gone, we may prepare, that thou mayest eat the passover?'

13 E ntão ele enviou dois de seus discípulos, dizendo-lhes: “Entrem na cidade, e um homem carregando um pote de água virá ao encontro de vocês. Sigam-no

And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith to them, `Go ye away to the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water, follow him;

14 e digam ao dono da casa em que ele entrar: O Mestre pergunta: Onde é o meu salão de hóspedes, no qual poderei comer a Páscoa com meus discípulos?

and wherever he may go in, say ye to the master of the house -- The Teacher saith, Where is the guest-chamber, where the passover, with my disciples, I may eat?

15 E le lhes mostrará uma ampla sala no andar superior, mobiliada e pronta. Façam ali os preparativos para nós”.

and he will shew you a large upper room, furnished, prepared -- there make ready for us.'

16 O s discípulos se retiraram, entraram na cidade e encontraram tudo como Jesus lhes tinha dito. E prepararam a Páscoa.

And his disciples went forth, and came to the city, and found as he said to them, and they made ready the passover.

17 A o anoitecer, Jesus chegou com os Doze.

And evening having come, he cometh with the twelve,

18 Q uando estavam comendo, reclinados à mesa, Jesus disse: “Digo-lhes que certamente um de vocês me trairá, alguém que está comendo comigo”.

and as they are reclining, and eating, Jesus said, `Verily I say to you -- one of you, who is eating with me -- shall deliver me up.'

19 E les ficaram tristes e, um por um, lhe disseram: “Com certeza não sou eu!”

And they began to be sorrowful, and to say to him, one by one, `Is it I?' and another, `Is it I?'

20 A firmou Jesus: “É um dos Doze, alguém que come comigo do mesmo prato.

And he answering said to them, `One of the twelve who is dipping with me in the dish;

21 O Filho do homem vai, como está escrito a seu respeito. Mas ai daquele que trai o Filho do homem! Melhor lhe seria não haver nascido”.

the Son of Man doth indeed go, as it hath been written concerning him, but wo to that man through whom the Son of Man is delivered up; good were it to him if that man had not been born.'

22 E nquanto comiam, Jesus tomou o pão, deu graças, partiu-o, e o deu aos discípulos, dizendo: “Tomem; isto é o meu corpo”.

And as they are eating, Jesus having taken bread, having blessed, brake, and gave to them, and said, `Take, eat; this is my body.'

23 E m seguida tomou o cálice, deu graças, ofereceu-o aos discípulos, e todos beberam.

And having taken the cup, having given thanks, he gave to them, and they drank of it -- all;

24 E lhes disse: “Isto é o meu sangue da aliança, que é derramado em favor de muitos.

and he said to them, `This is my blood of the new covenant, which for many is being poured out;

25 E u lhes afirmo que não beberei outra vez do fruto da videira, até aquele dia em que beberei o vinho novo no Reino de Deus”.

verily I say to you, that no more may I drink of the produce of the vine till that day when I may drink it new in the reign of God.'

26 D epois de terem cantado um hino, saíram para o monte das Oliveiras. Jesus Prediz que Pedro o Negará

And having sung an hymn, they went forth to the mount of the Olives,

27 D isse-lhes Jesus: “Vocês todos me abandonarão. Pois está escrito: “‘Ferirei o pastor, e as ovelhas serão dispersas’.

and Jesus saith to them -- `All ye shall be stumbled at me this night, because it hath been written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered abroad,

28 M as, depois de ressuscitar, irei adiante de vocês para a Galiléia”.

but after my having risen I will go before you to Galilee.'

29 P edro declarou: “Ainda que todos te abandonem, eu não te abandonarei!”

And Peter said to him, `And if all shall be stumbled, yet not I;'

30 R espondeu Jesus: “Asseguro-lhe que ainda hoje, esta noite, antes que duas vezes cante o galo, três vezes você me negará”.

And Jesus said to him, `Verily I say to thee, that to-day, this night, before a cock shall crow twice, thrice thou shalt deny me.'

31 M as Pedro insistia ainda mais: “Mesmo que seja preciso que eu morra contigo, nunca te negarei”. E todos os outros disseram o mesmo. Jesus no Getsêmani

And he spake the more vehemently, `If it may be necessary for me to die with thee -- I will in nowise deny thee;' and in like manner also said they all.

32 E ntão foram para um lugar chamado Getsêmani, e Jesus disse aos seus discípulos: “Sentem-se aqui enquanto vou orar”.

And they come to a spot, the name of which Gethsemane, and he saith to his disciples, `Sit ye here till I may pray;'

33 L evou consigo Pedro, Tiago e João, e começou a ficar aflito e angustiado.

and he taketh Peter, and James, and John with him, and began to be amazed, and to be very heavy,

34 E lhes disse: “A minha alma está profundamente triste, numa tristeza mortal. Fiquem aqui e vigiem”.

and he saith to them, `Exceeding sorrowful is my soul -- to death; remain here, and watch.'

35 I ndo um pouco mais adiante, prostrou-se e orava para que, se possível, fosse afastada dele aquela hora.

And having gone forward a little, he fell upon the earth, and was praying, that, if it be possible the hour may pass from him,

36 E dizia: “Aba, Pai, tudo te é possível. Afasta de mim este cálice; contudo, não seja o que eu quero, mas sim o que tu queres”.

and he said, `Abba, Father; all things are possible to Thee; make this cup pass from me; but, not what I will, but what Thou.'

37 E ntão, voltou aos seus discípulos e os encontrou dormindo. “Simão”, disse ele a Pedro, “você está dormindo? Não pôde vigiar nem por uma hora?

And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, `Simon, thou dost sleep! thou wast not able to watch one hour!

38 V igiem e orem para que não caiam em tentação. O espírito está pronto, mas a carne é fraca.”

Watch ye and pray, that ye may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is forward, but the flesh weak.'

39 M ais uma vez ele se afastou e orou, repetindo as mesmas palavras.

And again having gone away, he prayed, the same word saying;

40 Q uando voltou, de novo os encontrou dormindo, porque seus olhos estavam pesados. Eles não sabiam o que lhe dizer.

and having returned, he found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy, and they had not known what they might answer him.

41 V oltando pela terceira vez, ele lhes disse: “Vocês ainda dormem e descansam? Basta! Chegou a hora! Eis que o Filho do homem está sendo entregue nas mãos dos pecadores.

And he cometh the third time, and saith to them, `Sleep on henceforth, and rest -- it is over; the hour did come; lo, the Son of Man is delivered up to the hands of the sinful;

42 L evantem-se e vamos! Aí vem aquele que me trai!” Jesus é Preso

rise, we may go, lo, he who is delivering me up hath come nigh.'

43 E nquanto ele ainda falava, apareceu Judas, um dos Doze. Com ele estava uma multidão armada de espadas e varas, enviada pelos chefes dos sacerdotes, mestres da lei e líderes religiosos.

And immediately -- while he is yet speaking -- cometh near Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude, with swords and sticks, from the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders;

44 O traidor havia combinado um sinal com eles: “Aquele a quem eu saudar com um beijo, é ele: prendam-no e levem-no em segurança”.

and he who is delivering him up had given a token to them, saying, `Whomsoever I shall kiss, he it is, lay hold on him, and lead him away safely,'

45 D irigindo-se imediatamente a Jesus, Judas disse: “Mestre!”, e o beijou.

and having come, immediately, having gone near him, he saith, `Rabbi, Rabbi,' and kissed him.

46 O s homens agarraram Jesus e o prenderam.

And they laid on him their hands, and kept hold on him;

47 E ntão, um dos que estavam por perto puxou a espada e feriu o servo do sumo sacerdote, decepando-lhe a orelha.

and a certain one of those standing by, having drawn the sword, struck the servant of the chief priest, and took off his ear.

48 D isse Jesus: “Estou eu chefiando alguma rebelião, para que vocês venham me prender com espadas e varas?

And Jesus answering said to them, `As against a robber ye came out, with swords and sticks, to take me!

49 T odos os dias eu estive com vocês, ensinando no templo, e vocês não me prenderam. Mas as Escrituras precisam ser cumpridas”.

daily I was with you in the temple teaching, and ye did not lay hold on me -- but that the Writings may be fulfilled.'

50 E ntão todos o abandonaram e fugiram.

And having left him they all fled;

51 U m jovem, vestindo apenas um lençol de linho, estava seguindo Jesus. Quando tentaram prendê-lo,

and a certain young man was following him, having put a linen cloth about naked body, and the young men lay hold on him,

52 e le fugiu nu, deixando o lençol para trás. Jesus diante do Sinédrio

and he, having left the linen cloth, did flee from them naked.

53 L evaram Jesus ao sumo sacerdote; e então se reuniram todos os chefes dos sacerdotes, os líderes religiosos e os mestres da lei.

And they led away Jesus unto the chief priest, and come together to him do all the chief priests, and the elders, and the scribes;

54 P edro o seguiu de longe até o pátio do sumo sacerdote. Sentando-se ali com os guardas, esquentava-se junto ao fogo.

and Peter afar off did follow him, to the inside of the hall of the chief priest, and he was sitting with the officers, and warming himself near the fire.

55 O s chefes dos sacerdotes e todo o Sinédrio estavam procurando depoimentos contra Jesus, para que pudessem condená-lo à morte, mas não encontravam nenhum.

And the chief priests and all the sanhedrim were seeking against Jesus testimony -- to put him to death, and they were not finding,

56 M uitos testemunharam falsamente contra ele, mas as declarações deles não eram coerentes.

for many were bearing false testimony against him, and their testimonies were not alike.

57 E ntão se levantaram alguns e declararam falsamente contra ele:

And certain having risen up, were bearing false testimony against him, saying --

58 “ Nós o ouvimos dizer: ‘Destruirei este templo feito por mãos humanas e em três dias construirei outro, não feito por mãos de homens’”.

`We heard him saying -- I will throw down this sanctuary made with hands, and by three days, another made without hands I will build;'

59 M as, nem mesmo assim, o depoimento deles era coerente.

and neither so was their testimony alike.

60 D epois o sumo sacerdote levantou-se diante deles e perguntou a Jesus: “Você não vai responder à acusação que estes lhe fazem?”

And the chief priest, having risen up in the midst, questioned Jesus, saying, `Thou dost not answer anything! what do these testify against thee?'

61 M as Jesus permaneceu em silêncio e nada respondeu. Outra vez o sumo sacerdote lhe perguntou: “Você é o Cristo, o Filho do Deus Bendito?”

and he was keeping silent, and did not answer anything. Again the chief priest was questioning him, and saith to him, `Art thou the Christ -- the Son of the Blessed?'

62 “ Sou”, disse Jesus. “E vereis o Filho do homem assentado à direita do Poderoso vindo com as nuvens do céu.”

and Jesus said, `I am; and ye shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power, and coming with the clouds, of the heaven.'

63 O sumo sacerdote, rasgando as próprias vestes, perguntou: “Por que precisamos de mais testemunhas?

And the chief priest, having rent his garments, saith, `What need have we yet of witnesses?

64 V ocês ouviram a blasfêmia. Que acham?” Todos o julgaram digno de morte.

Ye heard the evil speaking, what appeareth to you?' and they all condemned him to be worthy of death,

65 E ntão alguns começaram a cuspir nele; vendaram-lhe os olhos e, dando-lhe murros, diziam: “Profetize!” E os guardas o levaram, dando-lhe tapas. Pedro Nega Jesus

and certain began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say to him, `Prophesy;' and the officers were striking him with their palms.

66 E stando Pedro em baixo, no pátio, uma das criadas do sumo sacerdote passou por ali.

And Peter being in the hall beneath, there doth come one of the maids of the chief priest,

67 V endo Pedro a aquecer-se, olhou bem para ele e disse: “Você também estava com Jesus, o Nazareno”.

and having seen Peter warming himself, having looked on him, she said, `And thou wast with Jesus of Nazareth!'

68 C ontudo ele o negou, dizendo: “Não o conheço, nem sei do que você está falando”. E saiu para o alpendre.

and he denied, saying, `I have not known, neither do I understand what thou sayest;' and he went forth without to the porch, and a cock crew.

69 Q uando a criada o viu lá, disse novamente aos que estavam por perto: “Esse aí é um deles”.

And the maid having seen him again, began to say to those standing near -- `This is of them;'

70 D e novo ele negou. Pouco tempo depois, os que estavam sentados ali perto disseram a Pedro: “Certamente você é um deles. Você é galileu!”

and he was again denying. And after a little again, those standing near said to Peter, `Truly thou art of them, for thou also art a Galilean, and thy speech is alike;'

71 E le começou a se amaldiçoar e a jurar: “Não conheço o homem de quem vocês estão falando!”

and he began to anathematize, and to swear -- `I have not known this man of whom ye speak;'

72 E logo o galo cantou pela segunda vez. Então Pedro se lembrou da palavra que Jesus lhe tinha dito: “Antes que duas vezes cante o galo, você me negará três vezes”. E se pôs a chorar.

and a second time a cock crew, and Peter remembered the saying that Jesus said to him -- `Before a cock crow twice, thou mayest deny me thrice;' and having thought thereon -- he was weeping.
