1 A dvertência revelada ao profeta Habacuque. A Primeira Queixa de Habacuque

The burden that Habakkuk the prophet hath seen:

2 A té quando, Senhor, clamarei por socorro, sem que tu ouças? Até quando gritarei a ti: “Violência!” sem que tragas salvação?

Till when, O Jehovah, have I cried, And Thou dost not hear? I cry unto Thee -- `Violence,' and Thou dost not save.

3 P or que me fazes ver a injustiça, e contemplar a maldade? A destruição e a violência estão diante de mim; há luta e conflito por todo lado.

Why dost Thou shew me iniquity, And perversity dost cause to behold? And spoiling and violence before me, And there is strife, and contention doth lift up,

4 P or isso a lei se enfraquece e a justiça nunca prevalece. Os ímpios prejudicam os justos, e assim a justiça é pervertida. A Resposta do Senhor

Therefore doth law cease, And judgment doth not go forth for ever, For the wicked is compassing the righteous, Therefore wrong judgment goeth forth.

5 “ Olhem as nações e contemplem-nas, fiquem atônitos e pasmem; pois nos dias de vocês farei algo em que não creriam se lhes fosse contado.

Look ye on nations, and behold and marvel greatly. For a work He is working in your days, Ye do not believe though it is declared.

6 E stou trazendo os babilônios, nação cruel e impetuosa, que marcha por toda a extensão da terra para apoderar-se de moradias que não lhe pertencem.

For, lo, I am raising up the Chaldeans, The bitter and hasty nation, That is going to the broad places of earth, To occupy tabernacles not its own.

7 É uma nação apavorante e temível, que cria a sua própria justiça e promove a sua própria honra.

Terrible and fearful it, From itself its judgment and its excellency go forth.

8 S eus cavalos são mais velozes que os leopardos, mais ferozes que os lobos no crepúsculo. Sua cavalaria vem de longe. Seus cavalos vêm a galope; vêm voando como ave de rapina que mergulha para devorar;

Swifter than leopards have been its horses, And sharper than evening wolves, And increased have its horsemen, Even its horsemen from afar come in, They fly as an eagle, hasting to consume.

9 t odos vêm prontos para a violência. Suas hordas avançam como o vento do deserto, e fazendo tantos prisioneiros como a areia da praia.

Wholly for violence it doth come in, Their faces swallowing up the east wind, And it doth gather as the sand a captivity.

10 M enosprezam os reis e zombam dos governantes. Riem de todas as cidades fortificadas, pois constroem rampas de terra e por elas as conquistam.

And at kings it doth scoff, And princes a laughter to it, At every fenced place it doth laugh, And it heapeth up dust, and captureth it.

11 D epois passam como o vento e prosseguem; homens carregados de culpa, e que têm por deus a sua própria força.” A Segunda Queixa de Habacuque

Then passed on hath the spirit, Yea, he doth transgress, And doth ascribe this his power to his god.

12 S enhor, tu não és desde a eternidade? Meu Deus, meu Santo, tu não morrerás. Senhor, tu designaste essa nação para executar juízo; ó Rocha, determinaste que ela aplicasse castigo.

Art not Thou of old, O Jehovah, my God, my Holy One? We do not die, O Jehovah, For judgment Thou hast appointed it, And, O Rock, for reproof Thou hast founded it.

13 T eus olhos são tão puros que não suportam ver o mal; não podes tolerar a maldade. Então, por que toleras os perversos? Por que ficas calado enquanto os ímpios devoram os que são mais justos que eles?

Purer of eyes than to behold evil, To look on perverseness Thou art not able, Why dost Thou behold the treacherous? Thou keepest silent when the wicked Doth swallow the more righteous than he,

14 T ornaste os homens como peixes do mar, como animais, que não são governados por ninguém.

And Thou makest man as fishes of the sea, As a creeping thing -- none ruling over him.

15 O inimigo puxa todos com anzóis, apanha-os em sua rede e nela os arrasta; então alegra-se e exulta.

Each of them with a hook he hath brought up, He doth catch it in his net, and gathereth it in his drag, Therefore he doth joy and rejoice.

16 E por essa razão ele oferece sacrifício à sua rede e queima incenso em sua honra, pois, graças à sua rede, vive em grande conforto e desfruta iguarias.

Therefore he doth sacrifice to his net, And doth make perfume to his drag, For by them his portion fertile, and his food fat.

17 M as, continuará ele esvaziando a sua rede, destruindo sem misericórdia as nações?

Doth he therefore empty his net, And continually to slay nations spare not?
