1 Q uando Raquel viu que não dava filhos a Jacó, teve inveja de sua irmã. Por isso disse a Jacó: “Dê-me filhos ou morrerei!”

And Rachel seeth that she hath not borne to Jacob, and Rachel is envious of her sister, and saith unto Jacob, `Give me sons, and if there is none -- I die.'

2 J acó ficou irritado e disse: “Por acaso estou no lugar de Deus, que a impediu de ter filhos?”

And Jacob's anger burneth against Rachel, and he saith, `Am I in stead of God who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?'

3 E ntão ela respondeu: “Aqui está Bila, minha serva. Deite-se com ela, para que tenha filhos em meu lugar e por meio dela eu também possa formar família”.

And she saith, `Lo, my handmaid Bilhah, go in unto her, and she doth bear on my knees, and I am built up, even I, from her;'

4 P or isso ela deu a Jacó sua serva Bila por mulher. Ele deitou-se com ela,

and she giveth to him Bilhah her maid-servant for a wife, and Jacob goeth in unto her;

5 B ila engravidou e deu-lhe um filho.

and Bilhah conceiveth, and beareth to Jacob a son,

6 E ntão Raquel disse: “Deus me fez justiça, ouviu o meu clamor e deu-me um filho”. Por isso deu-lhe o nome de Dã.

and Rachel saith, `God hath decided for me, and also hath hearkened to my voice, and giveth to me a son;' therefore hath she called his name Dan.

7 B ila, serva de Raquel, engravidou novamente e deu a Jacó o segundo filho.

And Bilhah, Rachel's maid-servant, conceiveth again, and beareth a second son to Jacob,

8 E ntão disse Raquel: “Tive grande luta com minha irmã e venci”. Pelo que o chamou Naftali.

and Rachel saith, `With wrestlings of God I have wrestled with my sister, yea, I have prevailed;' and she calleth his name Napthali.

9 Q uando Lia viu que tinha parado de ter filhos, tomou sua serva Zilpa e a deu a Jacó por mulher.

And Leah seeth that she hath ceased from bearing, and she taketh Zilpah her maid-servant, and giveth her to Jacob for a wife;

10 Z ilpa, serva de Lia, deu a Jacó um filho.

and Zilpah, Leah's maid-servant, beareth to Jacob a son,

11 E ntão disse Lia: “Que grande sorte!” Por isso o chamou Gade.

and Leah saith, `A troop is coming;' and she calleth his name Gad.

12 Z ilpa, serva de Lia, deu a Jacó mais um filho.

And Zilpah, Leah's maid-servant, beareth a second son to Jacob,

13 E ntão Lia exclamou: “Como sou feliz! As mulheres dirão que sou feliz”. Por isso lhe deu o nome de Aser.

and Leah saith, `Because of my happiness, for daughters have pronounced me happy;' and she calleth his name Asher.

14 D urante a colheita do trigo, Rúben saiu ao campo, encontrou algumas mandrágoras e as trouxe a Lia, sua mãe. Então Raquel disse a Lia: “Dê-me algumas mandrágoras do seu filho”.

And Reuben goeth in the days of wheat-harvest, and findeth love-apples in the field, and bringeth them in unto Leah, his mother, and Rachel saith unto Leah, `Give to me, I pray thee, of the love-apples of thy son.'

15 M as ela respondeu: “Não lhe foi suficiente tomar de mim o marido? Vai tomar também as mandrágoras que o meu filho trouxe?” Então disse Raquel: “Jacó se deitará com você esta noite, em troca das mandrágoras trazidas pelo seu filho”.

And she saith to her, `Is thy taking my husband a little thing, that thou hast taken also the love-apples of my son?' and Rachel saith, `Therefore doth he lie with thee to-night, for thy son's love-apples.'

16 Q uando Jacó chegou do campo naquela tarde, Lia saiu ao seu encontro e lhe disse: “Hoje você me possuirá, pois eu comprei esse direito com as mandrágoras do meu filho”. E naquela noite ele se deitou com ela.

And Jacob cometh in from the field at evening; and Leah goeth to meet him, and saith, `Unto me dost thou come in, for hiring I have hired thee with my son's love-apples;' and he lieth with her during that night.

17 D eus ouviu Lia, e ela engravidou e deu a Jacó o quinto filho.

And God hearkeneth unto Leah, and she conceiveth, and beareth to Jacob a son, a fifth,

18 D isse Lia: “Deus me recompensou por ter dado a minha serva ao meu marido”. Por isso deu-lhe o nome de Issacar.

and Leah saith, `God hath given my hire, because I have given my maid-servant to my husband;' and she calleth his name Issachar.

19 L ia engravidou de novo e deu a Jacó o sexto filho.

And conceive again doth Leah, and she beareth a sixth son to Jacob,

20 D isse Lia: “Deus presenteou-me com uma dádiva preciosa. Agora meu marido me tratará melhor; afinal já lhe dei seis filhos”. Por isso deu-lhe o nome de Zebulom.

and Leah saith, `God hath endowed me -- a good dowry; this time doth my husband dwell with me, for I have borne to him six sons;' and she calleth his name Zebulun;

21 A lgum tempo depois, ela deu à luz uma menina a quem chamou Diná.

and afterwards hath she born a daughter, and calleth her name Dinah.

22 E ntão Deus lembrou-se de Raquel. Deus ouviu o seu clamor e a tornou fértil.

And God remembereth Rachel, and God hearkeneth unto her, and openeth her womb,

23 E la engravidou, e deu à luz um filho e disse: “Deus tirou de mim a minha humilhação”.

and she conceiveth and beareth a son, and saith, `God hath gathered up my reproach;'

24 D eu-lhe o nome de José e disse: “Que o Senhor me acrescente ainda outro filho”. A Riqueza de Jacó

and she calleth his name Joseph, saying, `Jehovah is adding to me another son.'

25 D epois que Raquel deu à luz José, Jacó disse a Labão: “Deixe-me voltar para a minha terra natal.

And it cometh to pass, when Rachel hath borne Joseph, that Jacob saith unto Laban, `Send me away, and I go unto my place, and to my land;

26 D ê-me as minhas mulheres, pelas quais o servi, e os meus filhos, e partirei. Você bem sabe quanto trabalhei para você”.

give up my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and I go; for thou -- thou hast known my service which I have served thee.'

27 M as Labão lhe disse: “Se mereço sua consideração, peço-lhe que fique. Por meio de adivinhação descobri que o Senhor me abençoou por sua causa”.

And Laban saith unto him, `If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes -- I have observed diligently that Jehovah doth bless me for thy sake.'

28 E acrescentou: “Diga o seu salário, e eu lhe pagarei”.

He saith also, `Define thy hire to me, and I give.'

29 J acó lhe respondeu: “Você sabe quanto trabalhei para você e como os seus rebanhos cresceram sob os meus cuidados.

And he saith unto him, `Thou -- thou hast known that which I have served thee, and that which thy substance was with me;

30 O pouco que você possuía antes da minha chegada aumentou muito, pois o Senhor o abençoou depois que vim para cá. Contudo, quando farei algo em favor da minha própria família?”

for little which thou hast had at my appearance, and it breaketh forth into a multitude, and Jehovah blesseth thee at my coming; and now, when do I make, I also, for mine own house?'

31 E ntão Labão perguntou: “Que você quer que eu lhe dê?” “Não me dê coisa alguma”, respondeu Jacó. “Voltarei a cuidar dos seus rebanhos se você concordar com o seguinte:

And he saith, `What do I give to thee?' And Jacob saith, `Thou dost not give me anything; if thou do for me this thing, I turn back; I have delight; thy flock I watch;

32 h oje passarei por todos os seus rebanhos e tirarei do meio deles todas as ovelhas salpicadas e pintadas, todos os cordeiros pretos e todas as cabras pintadas e salpicadas. Eles serão o meu salário.

I pass through all thy flock to-day to turn aside from thence every sheep speckled and spotted, and every brown sheep among the lambs, and speckled and spotted among the goats -- and it hath been my hire;

33 E a minha honestidade dará testemunho de mim no futuro, toda vez que você resolver verificar o meu salário. Se estiver em meu poder alguma cabra que não seja salpicada ou pintada, e algum cordeiro que não seja preto, poderá considerá-los roubados.”

and my righteousness hath answered for me in the day to come, when it cometh in for my hire before thy face; -- every one which is not speckled and spotted among goats, and brown among lambs -- it is stolen with me.'

34 E disse Labão: “De acordo. Seja como você disse”.

And Laban saith, `Lo, O that it were according to thy word;'

35 N aquele mesmo dia Labão separou todos os bodes que tinham listras ou manchas brancas, todas as cabras que tinham pintas ou manchas brancas, e todos os cordeiros pretos e os colocou aos cuidados de seus filhos.

and he turneth aside during that day the ring-straked and the spotted he-goats, and all the speckled and the spotted she-goats, every one that white in it, and every brown one among the lambs, and he giveth into the hand of his sons,

36 A fastou-se então de Jacó, à distância equivalente a três dias de viagem, e Jacó continuou a apascentar o resto dos rebanhos de Labão.

and setteth a journey of three days between himself and Jacob; and Jacob is feeding the rest of the flock of Laban.

37 J acó pegou galhos verdes de estoraque, amendoeira e plátano e neles fez listras brancas, descascando-os parcialmente e expondo assim a parte branca interna dos galhos.

And Jacob taketh to himself a rod of fresh poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut, and doth peel in them white peelings, making bare the white that on the rods,

38 D epois fixou os galhos descascados junto aos bebedouros, na frente dos rebanhos, no lugar onde costumavam beber água. Na época do cio, os rebanhos vinham beber e

and setteth up the rods which he hath peeled in the gutters in the watering troughs (when the flock cometh in to drink), over-against the flock, that they may conceive in their coming in to drink;

39 s e acasalavam diante dos galhos. E geravam filhotes listrados, salpicados e pintados.

and the flocks conceive at the rods, and the flock beareth ring-straked, speckled, and spotted ones.

40 J acó separava os filhotes do rebanho dos demais, e fazia com que esses ficassem juntos dos animais listrados e pretos de Labão. Assim foi formando o seu próprio rebanho que separou do de Labão.

And the lambs hath Jacob parted, and he putteth the face of the flock towards the ring-straked, also all the brown in the flock of Laban, and he setteth his own droves by themselves, and hath not set them near Laban's flock.

41 T oda vez que as fêmeas mais fortes estavam no cio, Jacó colocava os galhos nos bebedouros, em frente dos animais, para que se acasalassem perto dos galhos;

And it hath come to pass whenever the strong ones of the flock conceive, that Jacob set the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, to cause them to conceive by the rods,

42 m as, se os animais eram fracos, não os colocava ali. Desse modo, os animais fracos ficavam para Labão e os mais fortes para Jacó.

and when the flock is feeble, he doth not set; and the feeble ones have been Laban's, and the strong ones Jacob's.

43 A ssim o homem ficou extremamente rico, tornando-se dono de grandes rebanhos e de servos e servas, camelos e jumentos.

And the man increaseth very exceedingly, and hath many flocks, and maid-servants, and men-servants, and camels, and asses.
