1 N aamã, comandante do exército do rei da Síria, era muito respeitado e honrado pelo seu senhor, pois por meio dele o Senhor dera vitória à Síria. Mas esse grande guerreiro ficou leproso.

And Naaman, head of the host of the king of Aram, was a great man before his lord, and accepted of face, for by him had Jehovah given salvation to Aram, and the man was mighty in valour -- leprous.

2 O ra, tropas da Síria haviam atacado Israel e levado cativa uma menina, que passou a servir à mulher de Naamã.

And the Aramaeans have gone out troops, and they take captive out of the land of Israel a little damsel, and she is before the wife of Naaman,

3 U m dia ela disse à sua senhora: “Se o meu senhor procurasse o profeta que está em Samaria, ele o curaria da lepra”.

and she saith unto her mistress, `O that my lord before the prophet who in Samaria; then he doth recover him from his leprosy.'

4 N aamã foi contar ao seu senhor o que a menina israelita dissera.

And goeth in and declareth to his lord, saying, `Thus and thus she hath spoken, the damsel who from the land of Israel.'

5 O rei da Síria respondeu: “Vá. Eu lhe darei uma carta que você entregará ao rei de Israel”. Então Naamã partiu, levando consigo trezentos e cinqüenta quilos de prata, setenta e dois quilos de ouro e dez mudas de roupas finas.

And the king of Aram saith, `Go thou, enter, and I send a letter unto the king of Israel;' and he goeth and taketh in his hand ten talents of silver, and six thousand of gold, and ten changes of garments.

6 A carta que levou ao rei de Israel dizia: “Junto com esta carta estou te enviando meu oficial Naamã, para que o cures da lepra”.

And he bringeth in the letter unto the king of Israel, saying, `And now, at the coming in of this letter unto thee, lo, I have sent unto thee Naaman my servant, and thou hast recovered him from his leprosy.'

7 A ssim que o rei de Israel leu a carta, rasgou as vestes e disse: “Por acaso sou Deus, capaz de conceder vida ou morte? Por que este homem me envia alguém para que eu o cure da lepra? Vejam como ele procura um motivo para se desentender comigo!”

And it cometh to pass, at the king of Israel's reading the letter, that he rendeth his garments, and saith, `Am I God, to put to death and to keep alive, that this is sending unto me to recover a man from his leprosy? for surely know, I pray you, and see, for he is presenting himself to me.'

8 Q uando Eliseu, o homem de Deus, soube que o rei de Israel havia rasgado suas vestes, mandou-lhe esta mensagem: “Por que rasgaste tuas vestes? Envia o homem a mim, e ele saberá que há profeta em Israel”.

And it cometh to pass, at Elisha the man of God's hearing that the king of Israel hath rent his garments, that he sendeth unto the king, saying, `Why hast thou rent thy garments? let him come, I pray thee, unto me, and he doth know that there is a prophet in Israel.'

9 E ntão Naamã foi com seus cavalos e carros e parou à porta da casa de Eliseu.

And Naaman cometh, with his horses and with his chariot, and standeth at the opening of the house for Elisha;

10 E liseu enviou um mensageiro para lhe dizer: “Vá e lave-se sete vezes no rio Jordão; sua pele será restaurada e você ficará purificado”.

and Elisha sendeth unto him a messenger, saying, `Go, and thou hast washed seven times in Jordan, and thy flesh doth turn back to thee -- and be thou clean.

11 M as Naamã ficou indignado e saiu dizendo: “Eu estava certo de que ele sairia para receber-me, invocaria em pé o nome do Senhor, o seu Deus, moveria a mão sobre o lugar afetado e me curaria da lepra.

And Naaman is wroth, and goeth on, and saith, `Lo, I said, Unto me he doth certainly come out, and hath stood and called in the name of Jehovah his God, and waved his hand over the place, and recovered the leper.

12 N ão são os rios Abana e Farfar, em Damasco, melhores do que todas as águas de Israel? Será que não poderia lavar-me neles e ser purificado?” E foi embora dali furioso.

Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? do I not wash in them and I have been clean?' and he turneth and goeth on in fury.

13 M as os seus servos lhe disseram: “Meu pai, se o profeta lhe tivesse pedido alguma coisa difícil, o senhor não faria? Quanto mais quando ele apenas lhe diz que se lave, e será purificado!”

And his servants come nigh, and speak unto him, and say, `My father, a great thing had the prophet spoken unto thee -- dost thou not do ? and surely, when he hath said unto thee, Wash, and be clean.'

14 A ssim ele desceu ao Jordão, mergulhou sete vezes conforme a ordem do homem de Deus e foi purificado; sua pele tornou-se como a de uma criança.

And he goeth down and dippeth in Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh doth turn back as the flesh of a little youth, and is clean.

15 E ntão Naamã e toda a sua comitiva voltaram à casa do homem de Deus. Ao chegar diante do profeta, Naamã lhe disse: “Agora sei que não há Deus em nenhum outro lugar, senão em Israel. Por favor, aceita um presente do teu servo”.

And he turneth back unto the man of God, he and all his camp, and cometh in, and standeth before him, and saith, `Lo, I pray thee, I have known that there is not a God in all the earth except in Israel; and now, take, I pray thee, a blessing from thy servant.'

16 O profeta respondeu: “Juro pelo nome do Senhor, a quem sirvo, que nada aceitarei”. Embora Naamã insistisse, ele recusou.

And he saith, `Jehovah liveth, before whom I have stood -- if I take;' and he presseth on him to take, and he refuseth.

17 E disse Naamã: “Já que não aceitas o presente, ao menos permite que eu leve duas mulas carregadas de terra, pois teu servo nunca mais fará holocaustos e sacrifícios a nenhum outro deus senão ao Senhor.

And Naaman saith, `If not -- let be given, I pray thee, to thy servant, a couple of mules' burden of earth, for thy servant doth make no more burnt-offering and sacrifice to other gods, but to Jehovah.

18 M as que o Senhor me perdoe por uma única coisa: quando meu senhor vai adorar no templo de Rimom, eu também tenho que me ajoelhar ali, pois ele se apóia em meu braço. Que o Senhor perdoe o teu servo por isso”.

For this thing Jehovah be propitious to thy servant, in the coming in of my lord into the house of Rimmon to bow himself there, and he was supported by my hand, and I bowed myself the house of Rimmon; for my bowing myself in the house of Rimmon Jehovah be propitious, I pray thee, to thy servant in this thing.'

19 D isse Eliseu: “Vá em paz”. O Castigo de Geazi Quando Naamã já estava a certa distância,

And he saith to him, `Go in peace.' And he goeth from him a kibrath of land,

20 G eazi, servo de Eliseu, o homem de Deus, pensou: “Meu senhor foi bom demais para Naamã, aquele arameu, não aceitando o que ele lhe ofereceu. Juro pelo nome do Senhor que correrei atrás dele para ver se ganho alguma coisa”.

And Gehazi, servant of Elisha the man of God, saith, `Lo, my lord hath spared Naaman this Aramaean, not to receive from his hand that which he brought; Jehovah liveth; surely if I have run after him, then I have taken from him something.'

21 E ntão Geazi correu para alcançar Naamã, que, vendo-o se aproximar, desceu da carruagem para encontrá-lo e perguntou: “Está tudo bem?”

And Gehazi pursueth after Naaman, and Naaman seeth one running after him, and alighteth from off the chariot to meet him, and saith, `Is there peace?'

22 G eazi respondeu: “Sim, tudo bem. Mas o meu senhor enviou-me para dizer que dois jovens, discípulos dos profetas, acabaram de chegar, vindos dos montes de Efraim. Por favor, dê-lhes trinta e cinco quilos de prata e duas mudas de roupas finas”.

And he saith, `Peace; my lord hath sent me, saying, Lo, now, this, come unto me have two young men from the hill-country of Ephraim, of the sons of the prophets; give, I pray thee, to them, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.'

23 “ Claro”, respondeu Naamã, “leve setenta quilos”. Ele insistiu com Geazi para que os aceitasse e colocou os setenta quilos de prata em duas sacolas, com as duas mudas de roupas, entregando tudo a dois de seus servos, os quais foram à frente de Geazi, levando as sacolas.

And Naaman saith, `Be pleased, take two talents;' and he urgeth on him, and bindeth two talents of silver in two purses, and two changes of garments, and giveth unto two of his young men, and they bear before him;

24 Q uando Geazi chegou à colina onde morava, pegou as sacolas das mãos dos servos e as guardou em casa. Mandou os homens de volta, e eles partiram.

and he cometh in unto the high place, and taketh out of their hand, and layeth up in the house, and sendeth away the men, and they go.

25 D epois entrou e apresentou-se ao seu senhor Eliseu. E este perguntou: “Onde você esteve, Geazi?” Geazi respondeu: “Teu servo não foi a lugar algum”.

And he hath come in, and doth stand by his lord, and Elisha saith unto him, `Whence -- Gehazi?' and he saith, `Thy servant went not hither or thither.'

26 M as Eliseu lhe disse: “Você acha que eu não estava com você em espírito quando o homem desceu da carruagem para encontrar-se com você? Este não era o momento de aceitar prata nem roupas, nem de cobiçar olivais, vinhas, ovelhas, bois, servos e servas.

And he saith unto him, `My heart went not when the man turned from off his chariot to meet thee; is it a time to take silver, and to take garments, and olives, and vines, and flock, and herd, and men-servants, and maid-servants?

27 P or isso a lepra de Naamã atingirá você e os seus descendentes para sempre”. Então Geazi saiu da presença de Eliseu já leproso, parecendo neve.

yea, the leprosy of Naaman doth cleave to thee, and to thy seed, -- to the age;' and he goeth out from before him -- leprous as snow.
