1 O ra, Naamã, chefe do exército do rei da Síria, era um grande homem diante do seu senhor, e de muito respeito, porque por ele o Senhor dera livramento aos sírios; era homem valente, porém leproso.

And Naaman, head of the host of the king of Aram, was a great man before his lord, and accepted of face, for by him had Jehovah given salvation to Aram, and the man was mighty in valour -- leprous.

2 O s sírios, numa das suas investidas, haviam levado presa, da terra de Israel, uma menina que ficou ao serviço da mulher de Naamã.

And the Aramaeans have gone out troops, and they take captive out of the land of Israel a little damsel, and she is before the wife of Naaman,

3 D isse ela a sua senhora: Oxalá que o meu senhor estivesse diante do profeta que está em Samária! Pois este o curaria da sua lepra.

and she saith unto her mistress, `O that my lord before the prophet who in Samaria; then he doth recover him from his leprosy.'

4 E ntão Naamã foi notificar a seu senhor, dizendo: Assim e assim falou a menina que é da terra de Israel.

And goeth in and declareth to his lord, saying, `Thus and thus she hath spoken, the damsel who from the land of Israel.'

5 R espondeu o rei da Síria: Vai, anda, e enviarei uma carta ao rei de Israel. Foi, pois, e levou consigo dez talentos de prata, e seis mil siclos de ouro e dez mudas de roupa.

And the king of Aram saith, `Go thou, enter, and I send a letter unto the king of Israel;' and he goeth and taketh in his hand ten talents of silver, and six thousand of gold, and ten changes of garments.

6 T ambém levou ao rei de Israel a carta, que dizia: Logo, em chegando a ti esta carta, saberás que eu te enviei Naamã, meu servo, para que o cures da sua lepra.

And he bringeth in the letter unto the king of Israel, saying, `And now, at the coming in of this letter unto thee, lo, I have sent unto thee Naaman my servant, and thou hast recovered him from his leprosy.'

7 T endo o rei de Israel lido a carta, rasgou as suas vestes, e disse: Sou eu Deus, que possa matar e vivificar, para que este envie a mim um homem a fim de que eu o cure da sua lepra? Notai, peço-vos, e vede como ele anda buscando ocasião contra mim.

And it cometh to pass, at the king of Israel's reading the letter, that he rendeth his garments, and saith, `Am I God, to put to death and to keep alive, that this is sending unto me to recover a man from his leprosy? for surely know, I pray you, and see, for he is presenting himself to me.'

8 Q uando Eliseu, o homem de Deus, ouviu que o rei de Israel rasgara as suas vestes, mandou dizer ao rei: Por que rasgaste as tuas vestes? Deixa-o vir ter comigo, e saberá que há profeta em Israel.

And it cometh to pass, at Elisha the man of God's hearing that the king of Israel hath rent his garments, that he sendeth unto the king, saying, `Why hast thou rent thy garments? let him come, I pray thee, unto me, and he doth know that there is a prophet in Israel.'

9 V eio, pois, Naamã com os seus cavalos, e com o seu carro, e parou ã porta da casa de Eliseu.

And Naaman cometh, with his horses and with his chariot, and standeth at the opening of the house for Elisha;

10 E ntão este lhe mandou um mensageiro, a dizer-lhe: Vai, lava-te sete vezes no Jordão, e a tua carne tornará a ti, e ficarás purificado.

and Elisha sendeth unto him a messenger, saying, `Go, and thou hast washed seven times in Jordan, and thy flesh doth turn back to thee -- and be thou clean.

11 N aamã, porém, indignado, retirou-se, dizendo: Eis que pensava eu: Certamente ele sairá a ter comigo, pôr-se-á em pé, invocará o nome do Senhor seu Deus, passará a sua mão sobre o lugar, e curará o leproso.

And Naaman is wroth, and goeth on, and saith, `Lo, I said, Unto me he doth certainly come out, and hath stood and called in the name of Jehovah his God, and waved his hand over the place, and recovered the leper.

12 N ão são, porventura, Abana e Farpar, rios de Damasco, melhores do que todas as águas de Israel? não poderia eu lavar-me neles, e ficar purificado? Assim se voltou e se retirou com indignação.

Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? do I not wash in them and I have been clean?' and he turneth and goeth on in fury.

13 O s seus servos, porém, chegaram-se a ele e lhe falaram, dizendo: Meu pai, se o profeta te houvesse indicado alguma coisa difícil, porventura não a terias cumprido? Quanto mais, dizendo-te ele: Lava-te, e ficarás purificado.

And his servants come nigh, and speak unto him, and say, `My father, a great thing had the prophet spoken unto thee -- dost thou not do ? and surely, when he hath said unto thee, Wash, and be clean.'

14 D esceu ele, pois, e mergulhou-se no Jordão sete vezes, conforme a palavra do homem de Deus; e a sua carne tornou-se como a carne dum menino, e ficou purificado.

And he goeth down and dippeth in Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh doth turn back as the flesh of a little youth, and is clean.

15 E ntão voltou ao homem de Deus, ele e toda a sua comitiva; chegando, pôs-se diante dele, e disse: Eis que agora sei que em toda a terra não há Deus senão em Israel; agora, pois, peço-te que do teu servo recebas um presente.

And he turneth back unto the man of God, he and all his camp, and cometh in, and standeth before him, and saith, `Lo, I pray thee, I have known that there is not a God in all the earth except in Israel; and now, take, I pray thee, a blessing from thy servant.'

16 E le, porém, respondeu: Vive o Senhor, em cuja presença estou, que não o receberei. Naamã instou com ele para que o tomasse; mas ele recusou.

And he saith, `Jehovah liveth, before whom I have stood -- if I take;' and he presseth on him to take, and he refuseth.

17 A o que disse Naamã: Seja assim; contudo dê-se a este teu servo terra que baste para carregar duas mulas; porque nunca mais oferecerá este teu servo holocausto nem sacrifício a outros deuses, senão ao Senhor.

And Naaman saith, `If not -- let be given, I pray thee, to thy servant, a couple of mules' burden of earth, for thy servant doth make no more burnt-offering and sacrifice to other gods, but to Jehovah.

18 N isto perdoe o Senhor ao teu servo: Quando meu amo entrar na casa de Rimom para ali adorar, e ele se apoiar na minha mão, e eu também me tenha de encurvar na casa de Rimom; quando assim me encurvar na casa de Rimom, nisto perdoe o Senhor ao teu servo.

For this thing Jehovah be propitious to thy servant, in the coming in of my lord into the house of Rimmon to bow himself there, and he was supported by my hand, and I bowed myself the house of Rimmon; for my bowing myself in the house of Rimmon Jehovah be propitious, I pray thee, to thy servant in this thing.'

19 E liseu lhe disse: Vai em paz.

And he saith to him, `Go in peace.' And he goeth from him a kibrath of land,

20 Q uando Naamã já ia a uma pequena distância, Geazi, moço de Eliseu, o homem de Deus, disse: Eis que meu senhor poupou a este sírio Naamã, não recebendo da mão dele coisa alguma do que trazia; vive o Senhor, que hei de correr atrás dele, e receber dele alguma coisa.

And Gehazi, servant of Elisha the man of God, saith, `Lo, my lord hath spared Naaman this Aramaean, not to receive from his hand that which he brought; Jehovah liveth; surely if I have run after him, then I have taken from him something.'

21 F oi pois, Geazi em alcance de Naamã. Este, vendo que alguém corria atrás dele, saltou do carro a encontrá-lo, e perguntou: Vai tudo bem?

And Gehazi pursueth after Naaman, and Naaman seeth one running after him, and alighteth from off the chariot to meet him, and saith, `Is there peace?'

22 R espondeu ele: Tudo vai bem. Meu senhor me enviou a dizer-te: Eis que agora mesmo vieram a mim dois mancebos dos filhos dos profetas da região montanhosa de Efraim; dá-lhes, pois, um talento de prata e duas mudas de roupa.

And he saith, `Peace; my lord hath sent me, saying, Lo, now, this, come unto me have two young men from the hill-country of Ephraim, of the sons of the prophets; give, I pray thee, to them, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.'

23 D isse Naamã: Sê servido de tomar dois talentos. E instou com ele, e amarrou dois talentos de prata em dois sacos, com duas mudas de roupa, e pô-los sobre dois dos seus moços, os quais os levaram adiante de Geazi.

And Naaman saith, `Be pleased, take two talents;' and he urgeth on him, and bindeth two talents of silver in two purses, and two changes of garments, and giveth unto two of his young men, and they bear before him;

24 T endo ele chegado ao outeiro, tomou-os das mãos deles e os depositou na casa; e despediu aqueles homens, e eles se foram.

and he cometh in unto the high place, and taketh out of their hand, and layeth up in the house, and sendeth away the men, and they go.

25 M as ele entrou e pôs-se diante de seu amo. Então lhe perguntou Eliseu: Donde vens, Geazi? Respondeu ele: Teu servo não foi a parte alguma.

And he hath come in, and doth stand by his lord, and Elisha saith unto him, `Whence -- Gehazi?' and he saith, `Thy servant went not hither or thither.'

26 E liseu porém, lhe disse: Porventura não foi contigo o meu coração, quando aquele homem voltou do seu carro ao teu encontro? Era isto ocasião para receberes prata e roupa, olivais e vinhas, ovelhas e bois, servos e servas?

And he saith unto him, `My heart went not when the man turned from off his chariot to meet thee; is it a time to take silver, and to take garments, and olives, and vines, and flock, and herd, and men-servants, and maid-servants?

27 P ortanto a lepra de Naamã se pegará a ti e ã tua descendência para sempre. Então Geazi saiu da presença dele leproso, branco como a neve.

yea, the leprosy of Naaman doth cleave to thee, and to thy seed, -- to the age;' and he goeth out from before him -- leprous as snow.
