1 E ntão chegaram todos os chefes das forças, e Joanã, filho de Careá, e Jezanias, filho de Hosaías, e todo o povo, desde o menor até o maior,

And they come nigh -- all the heads of the forces, and Johanan son of Kareah, and Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest --

2 e disseram a Jeremias, o profeta: Seja aceita, pedimos-te, a nossa súplica diante de ti, e roga ao Senhor teu Deus, por nós e por todo este resto; porque de muitos restamos somente uns poucos, assim como nos vêem os teus olhos;

and they say unto Jeremiah the prophet, `Let, we pray thee, our supplication fall before thee, and pray for us unto Jehovah thy God, for all this remnant; for we have been left a few out of many, as thine eyes do see us;

3 p ara que o Senhor teu Deus nos ensine o caminho por onde havemos de andar e aquilo que havemos de fazer.

and Jehovah thy God doth declare to us the way in which we walk, and the thing that we do.'

4 R espondeu-lhes Jeremias o profeta: Eu vos tenho ouvido; eis que orarei ao Senhor vosso Deus conforme as vossas palavras; e o que o Senhor vos responder, eu vo-lo declararei; não vos ocultarei nada.

And Jeremiah the prophet saith unto them, `I have heard: lo, I am praying unto Jehovah your God according to your words, and it hath come to pass, the whole word that Jehovah answereth you, I declare to you -- I do not withhold from you a word.'

5 E ntão eles disseram a Jeremias: Seja o Senhor entre nós testemunha verdadeira e fiel, se assim não fizermos conforme toda a palavra com que te enviar a nós o Senhor teu Deus.

And they have said to Jeremiah, `Jehovah is against us for a witness true and faithful, if -- according to all the word with which Jehovah thy God doth send thee unto us -- we do not so.

6 S eja ela boa, ou seja má, ã voz do Senhor nosso Deus, a quem te enviamos, obedeceremos, para que nos suceda bem, obedecendo ã voz do Senhor nosso Deus.

Whether good or evil, to the voice of Jehovah our God, to whom we are sending thee, we do hearken; because it is good for us when we hearken to the voice of Jehovah our God.'

7 A o fim de dez dias veio a palavra do Senhor a Jeremias.

And it cometh to pass, at the end of ten days, that there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah,

8 E ntão chamou a Joanã, filho de Careá, e a todos os chefes das forças que havia com ele, e a todo o povo, desde o menor até o maior,

and he calleth unto Johanan son of Kareah, and unto all the heads of the forces that with him, and to all the people, from the least even unto the greatest,

9 e lhes disse: Assim diz o Senhor, Deus de Israel, a quem me enviastes para apresentar a vossa súplica diante dele:

and he saith unto them, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me, to cause your supplication to fall before Him:

10 S e de boa mente habitardes nesta terra, então vos edificarei, e não vos derrubarei; e vos plantarei, e não vos arrancarei; porque estou arrependido do mal que vos tenho feito.

`If ye do certainly dwell in this land, then I have builded you up, and I throw not down; and I have planted you, and I pluck not up; for I have repented concerning the evil that I have done to you.

11 N ão temais o rei de Babilônia, a quem vós temeis; não o temais, diz o Senhor; pois eu sou convosco, para vos salvar e para vos livrar da sua mão.

Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, whom ye are afraid of; be not afraid of him -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- for with you I, to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

12 E vos concederei misericórdia, para que ele tenha misericórdia de vós, e vos faça habitar na vossa terra.

And I give to you mercies, and he hath pitied you, and caused you to turn back unto your own ground.

13 M as se vós disserdes: Não habitaremos nesta terra; não obedecendo ã voz do Senhor vosso Deus,

`And if ye are saying, We do not dwell in this land -- not to hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God,

14 e dizendo: Não; antes iremos para a terra do Egito, onde não veremos guerra, nem ouviremos o som de trombeta, nem teremos fome de pão, e ali habitaremos;

saying, No; but the land of Egypt we enter, that we see no war, and the sound of a trumpet do not hear, and for bread be not hungry; and there do we dwell.

15 n esse caso ouvi a palavra do Senhor, ó resto de Judá: Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Se vós de todo vos propuserdes a entrar no Egito, e entrardes para lá peregrinar,

And now, therefore, hear ye a word of Jehovah, O remnant of Judah: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: If ye really set your faces to enter Egypt, and have gone in to sojourn there,

16 e ntão a espada que vós temeis vos alcançará ali na terra do Egito, e a fome que vós receais vos seguirá de perto mesmo no Egito, e ali morrereis.

then it hath come to pass, the sword that ye are afraid of, doth there overtake you, in the land of Egypt; and the hunger, because of which ye are sorrowful, doth there cleave after you in Egypt, and there ye die.

17 A ssim sucederá a todos os homens que se propuserem a entrar no Egito, a fim de lá peregrinarem: morrerão ã espada, de fome, e de peste; e deles não haverá quem reste ou escape do mal que eu trarei sobre eles.

`Thus are all the men who have set their faces to enter Egypt to sojourn there; they die -- by sword, by hunger, and by pestilence, and there is not to them a remnant and an escaped one, because of the evil that I am bringing in upon them;

18 P ois assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Como se derramou a minha ira e a minha indignação sobre os habitantes de Jerusalém, assim se derramará a minha indignação sobre vós, quando entrardes no Egito. Sereis um espetáculo de execração, e de espanto, e de maldição, e de opróbrio; e não vereis mais este lugar.

for thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: As poured out hath been Mine anger and My fury on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so poured out is My fury upon you in your entering Egypt, and ye have been for an execration, and for an astonishment, and for a reviling, and for a reproach, and ye do not see any more this place.

19 F alou o Senhor acerca de vós, ó resto de Judá: Não entreis no Egito. Tende por certo que hoje vos tenho avisado.

`Jehovah hath spoken against you, O remnant of Judah, do not enter Egypt: know certainly that I have testified against you to-day;

20 P orque vós vos enganastes a vós mesmos; pois me enviastes ao Senhor vosso Deus, dizendo: Roga por nós ao Senhor nosso Deus, e conforme tudo o que disser o Senhor Deus nosso, declara-no-lo assim, e o faremos.

for ye have shewed yourselves perverse in your souls, for ye sent me unto Jehovah your God, saying, Pray for us unto Jehovah our God, and according to all that Jehovah our God saith, so declare to us, and we have done;

21 E vo-lo tenho declarado hoje, mas não destes ouvidos ã voz do Senhor vosso Deus em coisa alguma pela qual ele me enviou a vos.

and I declare to you to-day, and ye have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah your God, and to anything with which He hath sent me unto you.

22 A gora pois sabei por certo que morrereis ã espada, de fome e de peste no mesmo lugar onde desejais ir para lá peregrinardes.

And now, know ye certainly that by sword, by famine, and by pestilence ye die, in the place that ye have desired to go in to sojourn there.'
