1 O s filhos de Israel, a congregação toda, chegaram ao deserto de Zim no primeiro mês, e o povo ficou em Cades. Ali morreu Miriã, e ali foi sepultada.

And the sons of Israel come in, -- all the company -- to the wilderness of Zin, in the first month, and the people abide in Kadesh, and Miriam dieth there, and is buried there.

2 O ra, não havia água para a congregação; pelo que se ajuntaram contra Moisés e Arão.

And there hath been no water for the company, and they are assembled against Moses, and against Aaron,

3 E o povo contendeu com Moisés, dizendo: Oxalá tivéssemos perecido quando pereceram nossos irmãos perante o Senhor!

and the people strive with Moses, and speak, saying, `And oh that we had expired when our brethren expired before Jehovah!

4 P or que trouxestes a congregação do Senhor a este deserto, para que morramos aqui, nós e os nossos animais?

and why have ye brought in the assembly of Jehovah unto this wilderness to die there, we and our beasts?

5 E por que nos fizestes subir do Egito, para nos trazer a este mau lugar? lugar onde não há semente, nem figos, nem vides, nem romãs, nem mesmo água para beber.

and why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to bring us in unto this evil place? no place of seed, and fig, and vine, and pomegranate; and water there is none to drink.

6 E ntão Moisés e Arão se foram da presença da assembléia até a porta da tenda da revelação, e se lançaram com o rosto em terra; e a glória do Senhor lhes apareceu.

And Moses and Aaron go in from the presence of the assembly unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and fall on their faces, and the honour of Jehovah is seen by them.

7 E o Senhor disse a Moisés:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

8 T oma a vara, e ajunta a congregação, tu e Arão, teu irmão, e falai ã rocha perante os seus olhos, que ela dê as suas águas. Assim lhes tirarás água da rocha, e darás a beber ã congregação e aos seus animais.

`Take the rod, and assemble the company, thou and Aaron thy brother; and ye have spoken unto the rock before their eyes, and it hath given its water, and thou hast brought out to them water from the rock, and hast watered the company, and their beasts.'

9 M oisés, pois, tomou a vara de diante do senhor, como este lhe ordenou.

And Moses taketh the rod from before Jehovah, as He hath commanded him,

10 M oisés e Arão reuniram a assembléia diante da rocha, e Moisés disse-lhes: Ouvi agora, rebeldes! Porventura tiraremos água desta rocha para vós?

and Moses and Aaron assemble the assembly unto the front of the rock, and he saith to them, `Hear, I pray you, O rebels, from this rock do we bring out to you water?'

11 E ntão Moisés levantou a mão, e feriu a rocha duas vezes com a sua vara, e saiu água copiosamente, e a congregação bebeu, e os seus animais.

and Moses lifteth up his hand, and smiteth the rock with his rod twice; and much water cometh out, and the company drink, also their beasts.

12 P elo que o Senhor disse a Moisés e a Arão: Porquanto não me crestes a mim, para me santificardes diante dos filhos de Israel, por isso não introduzireis esta congregação na terra que lhes dei.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, and unto Aaron, `Because ye have not believed in Me to sanctify Me before the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore ye do not bring in this assembly unto the land which I have given to them.'

13 E stas são as águas de Meribá, porque ali os filhos de Israel contenderam com o Senhor, que neles se santificou.

These waters of Meribah, because the sons of Israel have `striven' with Jehovah, and He is sanctified upon them.

14 D e Cades, Moisés enviou mensageiros ao rei de Edom, dizendo: Assim diz teu irmão Israel: Tu sabes todo o trabalho que nos tem sobrevindo;

And Moses sendeth messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, `Thus said thy brother Israel, Thou -- thou hast known all the travail which hath found us;

15 c omo nossos pais desceram ao Egito, e nós no Egito habitamos muito tempo; e como os egípcios nos maltrataram, a nós e a nossos pais;

that our fathers go down to Egypt, and we dwell in Egypt many days, and the Egyptians do evil to us and to our fathers;

16 e quando clamamos ao Senhor, ele ouviu a nossa voz, e mandou um anjo, e nos tirou do Egito; e eis que estamos em Cades, cidade na extremidade dos teus termos.

and we cry unto Jehovah, and He heareth our voice, and sendeth a messenger, and is bringing us out of Egypt; and lo, we in Kadesh, a city the extremity of thy border.

17 D eixa-nos, pois, passar pela tua terra; não passaremos pelos campos, nem pelas vinhas, nem beberemos a água dos poços; iremos pela estrada real, não nos desviando para a direita nem para a esquerda, até que tenhamos passado os teus termos.

Let us pass over, we pray thee, through thy land; we pass not over through a field, or through a vineyard, nor do we drink waters of a well; the way of the king we go, we turn not aside -- right or left -- till that we pass over thy border.'

18 R espondeu-lhe Edom: Não passaras por mim, para que eu não saia com a espada ao teu encontro.

And Edom saith unto him, `Thou dost not pass over through me, lest with sword I come out to meet thee.'

19 O s filhos de Israel lhe replicaram: Subiremos pela estrada real; e se bebermos das tuas águas, eu e o meu gado, darei o preço delas; sob condição de eu nada mais fazer, deixa-me somente passar a pé.

And the sons of Israel say unto him, `In the highway we go, and if of thy waters we drink -- I and my cattle -- then I have given their price; only (it is nothing) on my feet I pass over.'

20 E dom, porém, respondeu: Não passarás. E saiu-lhe ao encontro com muita gente e com mão forte.

And he saith, `Thou dost not pass over;' and Edom cometh out to meet him with much people, and with a strong hand;

21 A ssim recusou Edom deixar Israel passar pelos seus termos; pelo que Israel se desviou dele.

and Edom refuseth to suffer Israel to pass over through his border, and Israel turneth aside from off him.

22 E ntão partiram de Cades; e os filhos de Israel, a congregação toda, chegaram ao monte Hor.

And the sons of Israel, the whole company, journey from Kadesh, and come in unto mount Hor,

23 E falou o Senhor a Moisés e a Arão no monte Hor, nos termos da terra de Edom, dizendo:

and Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron in mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, saying,

24 A rão será recolhido a seu povo, porque não entrará na terra que dei aos filhos de Israel, porquanto fostes rebeldes contra a minha palavra no tocante

`Aaron is gathered unto his people, for he doth not go in unto the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because that ye provoked My mouth at the waters of Meribah.

25 T oma a Arão e a Eleazar, seu filho, e faze-os subir ao monte Hor;

`Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and cause them to go up mount Hor,

26 e despe a Arão as suas vestes, e as veste a Eleazar, seu filho, porque Arão será recolhido, e morrerá ali.

and strip Aaron of his garments, and thou hast clothed them Eleazar his son, and Aaron is gathered, and doth die there.'

27 F ez, pois, Moisés como o Senhor lhe ordenara; e subiram ao monte Hor perante os olhos de toda a congregação.

And Moses doth as Jehovah hath commanded, and they go up unto mount Hor before the eyes of all the company,

28 M oisés despiu a Arão as vestes, e as vestiu a Eleazar, seu filho; e morreu Arão ali sobre o cume do monte; e Moisés e Eleazar desceram do monte.

and Moses strippeth Aaron of his garments, and clotheth with them Eleazar his son, and Aaron dieth there on the top of the mount; and Moses cometh down -- Eleazar also -- from the mount,

29 V endo, pois, toda a congregação que Arão era morto, chorou-o toda a casa de Israel por trinta dias.

and all the company see that Aaron hath expired, and they bewail Aaron thirty days -- all the house of Israel.
