1 E ntão disse Eliseu: Ouvi a palavra do Senhor; assim diz o Senhor: Amanhã, por estas horas, haverá uma medida de farinha por um siclo, e duas medidas de cevada por um siclo, ã porta de Samária.

And Elisha saith, `Hear ye a word of Jehovah: thus said Jehovah, About this time to-morrow, a measure of fine flour at a shekel, and two measures of barley at a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.'

2 p orém o capitão em cujo braço o rei se apoiava respondeu ao homem de Deus e disse: Ainda que o Senhor fizesse janelas no céu, poderia isso suceder? Disse Eliseu: Eis que o verás com os teus olhos, porém não comeras.

And the captain whom the king hath, by whose hand he hath been supported, answereth the man of God and saith, `Lo, Jehovah is making windows in the heavens -- shall this thing be?' and he saith, `Lo, thou art seeing it with thine eyes, and thereof thou dost not eat.'

3 O ra, quatro homens leprosos estavam ã entrada da porta; e disseram uns aos outros: Para que ficamos nós sentados aqui até morrermos?

And four men have been leprous, at the opening of the gate, and they say one unto another, `What -- we are sitting here till we have died;

4 S e dissermos: Entremos na cidade; há fome na cidade, e morreremos aí; e se ficarmos sentados aqui, também morreremos. Vamo-nos, pois, agora e passemos para o arraial dos sírios; se eles nos deixarem viver, viveremos; e se nos matarem, tão somente morreremos.

if we have said, We go in to the city, then the famine in the city, and we have died there; and if we have sat here, then we have died; and now, come and we fall unto the camp of Aram; if they keep us alive, we live, and if they put us to death -- we have died.'

5 L evantaram-se, pois, ao crepúsculo, para irem ao arraial dos sírios; e, chegando eles ã entrada do arraial, eis que não havia ali ninguém.

And they rise in the twilight, to go in unto the camp of Aram, and they come in unto the extremity of the camp of Aram, and lo, there is not a man there,

6 P orque o Senhor fizera ouvir no arraial dos sírios um ruído de carros e de cavalos, como de um grande exército; de maneira que disseram uns aos outros: Eis que o rei de Israel alugou contra nós os reis dos heteus e os reis dos egípcios, para virem sobre nós.

seeing Jehovah hath caused the camp of Aram to hear a noise of chariot and a noise of horse -- a noise of great force, and they say one unto another, `Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Egypt, to come against us.'

7 P elo que se levantaram e fugiram, ao crepúsculo; deixaram as suas tendas, os seus cavalos e os seus jumentos, isto é, o arraial tal como estava, e fugiram para salvarem as suas vidas.

And they rise and flee in the twilight, and forsake their tents, and their horses, and their asses -- the camp as it -- and flee for their life.

8 C hegando, pois, estes leprosos ã entrada do arraial, entraram numa tenda, comeram e beberam; e tomando dali prata, ouro e vestidos, foram e os esconderam; depois voltaram, entraram em outra tenda, e dali também tomaram alguma coisa e a esconderam.

And these lepers come in unto the extremity of the camp, and come in unto one tent, and eat, and drink, and lift up thence silver, and gold, and garments, and go and hide; and they turn back and go in unto another tent, and lift up thence, and go and hide.

9 E ntão disseram uns aos outros: Não fazemos bem; este dia é dia de boas novas, e nós nos calamos. Se esperarmos até a luz da manhã, algum castigo nos sobrevirá; vamos, pois, agora e o anunciemos ã casa do rei.

And they say one unto another, `We are not doing right this day; a day of tidings it, and we are keeping silent; and -- we have waited till the light of the morning, then hath punishment found us; and now, come and we go in and declare to the house of the king.'

10 V ieram, pois, bradaram aos porteiros da cidade, e lhes anunciaram, dizendo: Fomos ao arraial dos sírios e eis que lá não havia ninguém, nem voz de homem, porém só os cavalos e os jumentos atados, e as tendas como estavam.

And they come in, and call unto the gatekeeper of the city, and declare for themselves, saying, `We have come in unto the camp of Aram, and lo, there is not there a man, or sound of man, but the bound horse, and the bound ass, and tents as they.'

11 A ssim chamaram os porteiros, e estes o anunciaram dentro da casa do rei.

and he calleth the gatekeepers, and they declare to the house of the king within.

12 E o rei se levantou de noite, e disse a seus servos: Eu vos direi o que é que os sírios nos fizeram. Bem sabem eles que estamos esfaimados; pelo que saíram do arraial para se esconderem no campo, dizendo: Quando saírem da cidade, então os tomaremos vivos, e entraremos na cidade.

And the king riseth by night, and saith unto his servants, `Let me declare, I pray you, to you that which the Aramaeans have done to us; they have known that we are famished, and they are gone out from the camp to be hidden in the field, saying, When they come out from the city, then we catch them alive, and unto the city we enter.'

13 E ntão um dos seus servos respondeu, dizendo: Tomem-se, pois, cinco dos cavalos do resto que ficou aqui dentro (eis que eles estão como toda a multidão dos israelitas que ficaram aqui de resto, e que se vêm extenuando), e enviemo-los, e vejamos.

And one of his servants answereth and saith, `Then let them take, I pray thee, five of the horses that are left, that have been left in it -- lo, they as all the multitude of Israel who have been left in it; lo, they are as all the multitude of Israel who have been consumed -- and we send and see.'

14 T omaram pois dois carros com cavalos; e o rei os enviou com mensageiros após o exército dos sírios, dizendo-lhe: Ide, e vede.

And they take two chariot-horses, and the king sendeth after the camp of Aram, saying, `Go, and see.'

15 E foram após ele até o Jordão; e eis que todo o caminho estava cheio de roupas e de objetos que os sírios, na sua precipitação, tinham lançado fora; e voltaram os mensageiros, e o anunciaram ao rei.

And they go after them unto the Jordan, and lo, all the way is full of garments and vessels that the Aramaeans have cast away in their haste, and the messengers turn back and declare to the king.

16 E ntão saiu o povo, e saqueou o arraial dos sírios. Assim houve uma medida de farinha por um siclo e duas medidas de cevada por um siclo, conforme a palavra do Senhor.

And the people go out and spoil the camp of Aram, and there is a measure of fine flour at a shekel, and two measures of barley at a shekel, according to the word of Jehovah.

17 O rei pusera ã porta o capitão em cujo braço ele se apoiava; e o povo o atropelou na porta, de sorte que morreu, como falara o homem de Deus quando o rei descera a ter com ele.

And the king hath appointed the captain, by whose hand he is supported, over the gate, and the people tread him down in the gate, and he dieth, as the man of God spake, which he spake in the coming down of the king unto him,

18 P orque, quando o homem de Deus falara ao rei, dizendo: Amanhã, por estas horas, haverá duas medidas de cevada por um siclo, e uma medida de farinha por um siclo, ã porta de Samária,

yea, it cometh to pass, according to the speaking of the man of God unto the king, saying, `Two measures of barley at a shekel, and a measure of fine flour at a shekel are, at this time to-morrow, in the gate of Samaria;'

19 a quele capitão respondera ao homem de Deus: Ainda que o Senhor fizesse janelas no céu poderia isso suceder? e ele dissera: Eis que o verás com os teus olhos, porém não comerás.

and the captain answereth the man of God, and saith, `And lo, Jehovah is making windows in the heavens -- it is according to this word?' and he saith, `Lo, thou art seeing with thine eyes, and thereof thou dost not eat;'

20 E assim foi; pois o povo o atropelou ã porta, e ele morreu.

and it cometh to him so, and the people tread him down in the gate, and he dieth.
