1 O ráculo acerca do deserto do mar. Como os tufões de vento do sul, que tudo assolam, aí vem do deserto, duma terra horrível.

The burden of the wilderness of the sea. `Like hurricanes in the south for passing through, From the wilderness it hath come, From a fearful land.

2 D ura visão me foi manifesta: o pérfido trata perfidamente, e o destruidor anda destruindo. Sobe, ó Elão, sitia, ó Média; já fiz cessar todo o seu gemido.

A hard vision hath been declared to me, The treacherous dealer is dealing treacherously, And the destroyer is destroying. Go up, O Elam, besiege, O Media, All its sighing I have caused to cease.

3 P elo que os meus lombos estão cheios de angústia; dores apoderaram-se de mim como as dores de mulher na hora do parto; estou tão atribulado que não posso ouvir, e tão desfalecido que não posso ver.

Therefore filled have been my loins great pain, Pangs have seized me as pangs of a travailing woman, I have been bent down by hearing, I have been troubled by seeing.

4 O meu coração se agita, o horror apavora-me; o crepúsculo, que desejava, tem-se-me tornado em tremores.

Wandered hath my heart, trembling hath terrified me, The twilight of my desire He hath made a fear to me,

5 E les põem a mesa, estendem os tapetes, comem, bebem. Levantai-vos, príncipes, e ungi o escudo.

Arrange the table, watch in the watch-tower, Eat, drink, rise, ye heads, anoint the shield,

6 P orque assim me disse o Senhor: Vai, põe uma sentinela; e ela que diga o que vir.

For thus said the Lord unto me: `Go, station the watchman, That which he seeth let him declare.'

7 Q uando vir uma tropa de cavaleiros de dois a dois, uma tropa de jumentos, ou uma tropa de camelos, escute a sentinela atentamente com grande cuidado.

And he hath seen a chariot -- a couple of horsemen, The rider of an ass, the rider of a camel, And he hath given attention -- He hath increased attention!

8 E ntão clamou aquele que viu: Senhor, sobre a torre de vigia estou em pé continuamente de dia, e de guarda me ponho todas as noites.

And he crieth -- a lion, `On a watch-tower my lord, I am standing continually by day, And on my ward I am stationed whole nights.

9 E eis aqui agora vem uma tropa de homens, cavaleiros de dois a dois. Então ele respondeu e disse: Caiu, caiu Babilônia; e todas as imagens esculpidas de seus deuses são despedaçadas até o chão.

And lo, this, the chariot of a man is coming, A couple of horsemen.' And he answereth and saith: `Fallen, fallen hath Babylon, And all the graven images of her gods He hath broken to the earth.

10 A h, malhada minha, e trigo da minha eira! o que ouvi do Senhor dos exércitos, Deus de Israel, isso vos tenho anunciado.

O my threshing, and the son of my floor, That which I heard from Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, I have declared to you!'

11 O ráculo acerca de Dumá. Alguém clama a mim de Seir: Guarda, que horas são da noite? guarda, que horas são da noite?

The burden of Dumah. Unto me is calling from Seir `Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?'

12 R espondeu o guarda: Vem a manhã, e também a noite; se quereis perguntar, perguntai; voltai, vinde.

The watchman hath said, `Come hath morning, and also night, If ye inquire, inquire ye, turn back, come.'

13 O ráculo contra a Arábia. Nos bosques da Arábia passareis a noite, ó caravanas de dedanitas.

The burden on Arabia. In a forest in Arabia ye lodge, O travellers of Dedanim.

14 S aí com água ao encontro dos sedentos; ó moradores da terra de Tema, saí com pão ao encontro dos fugitivos.

To meet the thirsty brought water have Inhabitants of the land of Tema, With his bread they came before a fugitive.

15 p ois fogem diante das espadas, diante da espada desembainhada, e diante do arco armado, e diante da pressão da guerra.

For from the face of destructions they fled, From the face of a stretched-out sword, And from the face of a trodden bow, And from the face of the grievousness of battle.

16 p orque assim me disse o Senhor: Dentro de um ano, tal como os anos de jornaleiro, toda a glória de Quedar esvaecerá.

For thus said the Lord unto me: `Within a year, as years of a hireling, Consumed hath been all the honour of Kedar.

17 e os restantes do número dos flecheiros, os valentes dos filhos de Quedar, serão diminuídos; porque assim o disse o Senhor, Deus de Israel.

And the remnant of the number of bow-men, The mighty of the sons of Kedar are few, For Jehovah, God of Israel, hath spoken!'
