1 N aqueles dias não havia rei em Israel; a tribo dos danitas buscava para si herança em que habitar; porque até então não lhe havia caído a sua herança entre as tribos de Israel.

In those days there is no king in Israel, and in those days the tribe of the Danite is seeking for itself an inheritance to inhabit, for hath not fallen to it unto that day in the midst of the tribes of Israel by inheritance.

2 E de Zorá e Estaol os filhos de Dã enviaram cinco homens da sua tribo, escolhidos dentre todo o povo, homens valorosos, para espiar e reconhecer a terra; e lhes disseram: Ide, reconhecei a terra. E chegaram eles ã região montanhosa de Efraim, ã casa de Mica, e passaram ali a noite.

And the sons of Dan send, out of their family, five men of them, men, sons of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to traverse the land, and to search it, and they say unto them, `Go, search the land;' and they come into the hill-country of Ephraim, unto the house of Micah, and lodge there.

3 P ois, estando eles perto da casa de Mica, reconheceram a voz do mancebo levita; e, dirigindo-se para lá, lhe perguntaram: Quem te trouxe para cá? que estás fazendo aqui? e que é isto que tens aqui?

They with the household of Micah, and they have discerned the voice of the young man, the Levite, and turn aside there, and say to him, `Who hath brought thee hither? and what art thou doing in this and what to thee here?'

4 E ele lhes respondeu: Assim e assim me tem feito Mica; ele me assalariou, e eu lhe sirvo e sacerdote.

And he saith unto them, `Thus and thus hath Micah done to me; and he hireth me, and I am to him for a priest.'

5 E ntão lhe disseram: Consulta a Deus, para que saibamos se será próspero o caminho que seguimos.

And they say to him, `Ask, we pray thee, at God, and we know whether our way is prosperous on which we are going.'

6 A o que lhes disse o sacerdote: Ide em paz; perante o Senhor está o caminho que seguis.

And the priest saith to them, `Go in peace; over-against Jehovah your way in which ye go.'

7 E ntão foram-se aqueles cinco homens, e chegando a Laís, viram o povo que havia nela, como vivia em segurança, conforme o costume dos sidônios, quieto e desprecavido; não havia naquela terra falta de coisa alguma; era um povo rico e, estando longe dos sidônios, não tinha relações com ninguém.

And the five men go, and come in to Laish, and see the people which in its midst, dwelling confidently, according to the custom of Zidonians, quiet and confident; and there is none putting to shame in the land in thing, possessing restraint, and they far off from the Zidonians, and have no word with man.

8 E ntão voltaram a seus irmãos, em Zorá e Estaol, os quais lhes perguntaram: Que dizeis vós?

And they come in unto their brethren, at Zorah and Eshtaol, and their brethren say to them, `What -- ye?'

9 E les responderam: Levantai-vos, e subamos contra eles; porque examinamos a terra, e eis que é muito boa. E vós estareis aqui tranqüilos? Não sejais preguiçosos em entrardes para tomar posse desta terra.

And they say, `Rise, and we go up against them, for we have seen the land, and lo, very good; and ye are keeping silent! be not slothful to go -- to enter to possess the land.

10 Q uando lá chegardes, achareis um povo desprecavido, e a terra é muito espaçosa; pois Deus vos entregou na mão um lugar em que não há falta de coisa alguma que há na terra.

When ye go, ye come in unto a people confident, and the land large on both hands, for God hath given it into your hand, a place where there is no lack of anything which in the land.'

11 E ntão seiscentos homens da tribo dos danitas partiram de Zorá e Estaol, munidos de armas de guerra.

And there journey thence, of the family of the Danite, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, six hundred men girded with weapons of war.

12 E , tendo subido, acamparam-se em Quiriate-Jearim, em Judá; pelo que esse lugar ficou sendo chamado Maané-Dã, até o dia de hoje; eis que está ao ocidente de Quiriate-Jearim.

And they go up and encamp in Kirjath-Jearim, in Judah, therefore they have called that place, `Camp of Dan,' till this day; lo, behind Kirjath-Jearim.

13 D ali passaram ã região montanhosa de Efraim, e chegaram ã casa de Mica.

And they pass over thence the hill-country of Ephraim, and come in unto the house of Micah.

14 E ntão os cinco homens que tinham ido espiar a terra de Laís disseram a seus irmãos: Sabeis vós que naquelas casas há um éfode, e terafins, e uma imagem esculpida e uma de fundição? Considerai, pois, agora o que haveis de fazer.

And the five men, those going to traverse the land of Laish, answer and say unto their brethren, `Have ye known that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and graven image, and molten image? and now, know what ye do.'

15 E ntão se dirigiram para lá, e chegaram ã casa do mancebo, o levita, ã casa de Mica, e o saudaram.

And they turn aside thither, and come in unto the house of the young man the Levite, the house of Micah, and ask of him of welfare, --

16 E os seiscentos homens dos danitas, munidos de suas armas de guerra, ficaram ã entrada da porta.

(and the six hundred men girded with their weapons of war, who of the sons of Dan, are standing at the opening of the gate), --

17 M as subindo os cinco homens que haviam espiado a terra, entraram ali e tomaram a imagem esculpida, e éfode, os terafins e a imagem de fundição, ficando o sacerdote em pé ã entrada da porta, com os seiscentos homens armados.

yea, the five men, those going to traverse the land, go up -- they have come in thither -- they have taken the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image -- and the priest is standing at the opening of the gate, and the six hundred men who are girded with weapons of war --

18 Q uando eles entraram na casa de Mica, e tomaram a imagem esculpida, o éfode, os terafins e a imagem de fundição, perguntou-lhes o sacerdote: Que estais fazendo?

yea, these have entered the house of Micah, and take the graven image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image; and the priest saith unto them, `What are ye doing?'

19 E eles lhe responderam: Cala-te, põe a mão sobre a boca, e vem conosco, e sê-nos por pai e sacerdote. Que te é melhor? ser sacerdote da casa dum só homem, ou duma tribo e duma geração em Israel?

and they say to him, `Keep silent, lay thy hand on thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us for a father and for a priest: is it better thy being a priest to the house of one man, or thy being priest to a tribe and to a family in Israel?'

20 E ntão alegrou-se o coração do sacerdote, o qual tomou o éfode, os terafins e a imagem esculpida, e entrou no meio do povo.

And the heart of the priest is glad, and he taketh the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and goeth into the midst of the people,

21 E , virando-se, partiram, tendo posto diante de si os pequeninos, o gado e a bagagem.

and they turn and go, and put the infants, and the cattle, and the baggage, before them.

22 E stando eles já longe da casa de Mica, os homens que estavam nas casas vizinhas ã dele se reuniram, e alcançaram os filhos de Dã.

They have been far off from the house of Micah -- and the men who in the houses which near the house of Micah have been called together, and overtake the sons of Dan,

23 E clamaram após os filhos de Dã, os quais, virando-se, perguntaram a Mica: Que é que tens, visto que vens com tanta gente?

and call unto the sons of Dan, and they turn round their faces, and say to Micah, `What -- to thee that thou hast been called together?'

24 E ntão ele respondeu: Os meus deuses que eu fiz, vós me tomastes, juntamente com o sarcerdote, e partistes; e agora, que mais me fica? Como, pois, me dizeis: Que é que tens ?

And he saith, `My gods which I made ye have taken, and the priest, and ye go; and what to me more? and what this ye say unto me, What -- to thee!'

25 M as os filhos de Dã lhe disseram: Não faças ouvir a tua voz entre nós, para que porventura homens violentos não se lancem sobre vós, e tu percas a tua vida, e a vida dos da tua casa.

And the sons of Dan say unto him, `Let not thy voice be heard with us, lest men bitter in soul fall upon you, and thou hast gathered thy life, and the life of thy household;'

26 A ssim seguiram o seu caminho os filhos de Dã; e Mica, vendo que eram mais fortes do que ele, virou-se e voltou para sua casa.

and the sons of Dan go on their way, and Micah seeth that they are stronger than he, and turneth, and goeth back unto his house.

27 E les, pois, levaram os objetos que Mica havia feito, e o sacerdote que estava com ele e, chegando a Laís, a um povo quieto e desprecavido, passaram-no ao fio da espada, e puseram fogo ã cidade.

And they have taken that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and come in against Laish, against a people quiet and confident, and smite them by the mouth of the sword, and the city have burnt with fire,

28 E ninguém houve que o livrasse, porquanto estava longe de Sidom, e não tinha relações com ninguém; a cidade estava no vale que está junto a Bete-Reobe. Depois, reedificando-a, habitaram nela,

and there is no deliverer, for it far off from Zidon, and they have no word with man, and it in the valley which by Beth-Rehob; and they build the city, and dwell in it,

29 e chamaram-lhe Dã, segundo o nome de Dã, seu pai, que nascera a Israel; era, porém, dantes o nome desta cidade Laís.

and call the name of the city Dan, by the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel; and yet Laish the name of the city at the first.

30 D epois os filhos de Dã levantaram para si aquela imagem esculpida; e Jônatas, filho de Gérsom, o filho de Moisés, ele e seus filhos foram sacerdotes da tribo dos danitas, até o dia do cativeiro da terra.

And the sons of Dan raise up for themselves the graven image, and Jonathan son of Gershom, son of Manasseh, he and his sons have been priests to the tribe of the Danite, till the day of the removal of of the land.

31 A ssim, pois, estabeleceram para si a imagem esculpida que Mica fizera, por todo o tempo em que a casa de Deus esteve em Siló.

And they appoint for them the graven image of Micah, which he had made, all the days of the house of God being in Shiloh.
