1 A i da vaidosa coroa dos bêbedos de Efraim, e da flor murchada do seu glorioso ornamento, que está sobre a cabeça do fértil vale dos vencidos do vinho.

Wo the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim. And the fading flower of the beauty of his glory, That on the head of the fat valley of the broken down of wine.

2 E is que o Senhor tem um valente e poderoso; como tempestade de saraiva, tormenta destruidora, como tempestade de impetuosas águas que transbordam, ele a derrubará violentamente por terra.

Lo, a mighty and strong one to the Lord, As a storm of hail -- a destructive shower, As an inundation of mighty waters overflowing, He cast down to the earth with the hand.

3 A vaidosa coroa dos bêbedos de Efraim será pisada aos pés;

By feet trodden down is the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim,

4 e a flor murchada do seu glorioso ornamento, que está sobre a cabeça do fértil vale, será como figo que amadurece antes do verão, que, vendo-o alguém, e mal tomando-o na mão, o engole.

And the fading flower of the beauty of his glory That on the head of the fat valley, Hath been as its first-fruit before summer, That its beholder seeth, While it yet in his hand he swalloweth it.

5 N aquele dia o Senhor dos exércitos será por coroa de glória e diadema de formosura para o restante de seu povo;

In that day is Jehovah of Hosts For a crown of beauty, and for a diadem of glory, To the remnant of His people.

6 e por espírito de juízo para o que se assenta a julgar, e por fortaleza para os que fazem recuar a peleja até a porta.

And for a spirit of judgment To him who is sitting in the judgment, And for might those turning back the battle to the gate.

7 M as também estes cambaleiam por causa do vinho, e com a bebida forte se desencaminham; até o sacerdote e o profeta cambaleiam por causa da bebida forte, estão tontos do vinho, desencaminham-se por causa da bebida forte; erram na visão, e tropeçam no juizo.

And even these through wine have erred, And through strong drink have wandered, Priest and prophet erred through strong drink, They have been swallowed up of the wine, They wandered because of the strong drink, They have erred in seeing, They have stumbled judicially.

8 P ois todas as suas mesas estão cheias de vômitos e de sujidade, e não há lugar que esteja limpo.

For all tables have been full of vomit, Filth -- without place!

9 O ra, a quem ensinará ele o conhecimento? e a quem fará entender a mensagem? aos desmamados, e aos arrancados dos seios?

By whom doth He teach knowledge? And by whom doth He cause to understand the report? The weaned from milk, the removed from breasts,

10 P ois é preceito sobre preceito, preceito sobre preceito; regra sobre regra, regra sobre regra; um pouco aqui, um pouco ali.

For rule on rule, rule on rule, line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there,

11 N a verdade por lábios estranhos e por outra língua falará a este povo;

For by scorned lip, and by another tongue, Doth He speak unto this people.

12 a o qual disse: Este é o descanso, dai descanso ao cansado; e este é o refrigério; mas não quiseram ouvir.

Unto whom He hath said, `This the rest, give ye rest to the weary, And this -- the refreshing:' And they have not been willing to hear,

13 A ssim pois a palavra do Senhor lhes será preceito sobre preceito, preceito sobre preceito; regra sobre regra, regra sobre regra; um pouco aqui, um pouco ali; para que vão, e caiam para trás, e fiquem quebrantados, enlaçados, e presos.

And to whom a word of Jehovah hath been, Rule on rule, rule on rule, line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there, So that they go and have stumbled backward, And been broken, and snared, and captured.

14 O uvi, pois, a palavra do Senhor, homens escarnecedores, que dominais este povo que está em Jerusalém.

Therefore, hear a word of Jehovah, ye men of scorning, Ruling this people that in Jerusalem.

15 P orquanto dizeis: Fizemos pacto com a morte, e com o Seol fizemos aliança; quando passar o flagelo trasbordante, não chegará a nós; porque fizemos da mentira o nosso refúgio, e debaixo da falsidade nos escondemos.

Because ye have said: `We have made a covenant with death, And with Sheol we have made a provision, An overflowing scourge, when it passeth over, Doth not meet us, Though we have made a lie our refuge, And in falsehood have been hidden.'

16 P ortanto assim diz o Senhor Deus: Eis que ponho em Sião como alicerce uma pedra, uma pedra provada, pedra preciosa de esquina, de firme fundamento; aquele que crer não se apressará.

Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: `Lo, I am laying a foundation in Zion, A stone -- a tried stone, a corner stone precious, a settled foundation, He who is believing doth not make haste.

17 E farei o juízo a linha para medir, e a justiça o prumo; e a saraiva varrerá o refúgio da mentira, e as águas inundarão o esconderijo.

And I have put judgment for a line, And righteousness for a plummet, And sweep away doth hail the refuge of lies, And the secret hiding-place do waters overflow.

18 E o vosso pacto com a morte será anulado; e a vossa aliança com o Seol não subsistirá; e, quando passar o flagelo trasbordante, sereis abatidos por ele.

And disannulled hath been your covenant with death, And your provision with Sheol doth not stand, An overflowing scourge, when it passeth over, Then ye have been to it for a treading-place.

19 T odas as vezes que passar, vos arrebatará; porque de manhã em manhã passará, de dia e de noite; e será motivo de terror o só ouvir tal notícia.

From the fulness of its passing over it taketh you, For morning by morning it passeth over, By day and by night, And it hath been only a trembling to consider the report.

20 P ois a cama é tão curta que nela ninguém se pode estender; e o cobertor tão estreito que com ele ninguém se pode cobrir.

For shorter hath been the bed Than to stretch one's self out in, And the covering hath been narrower Than to wrap one's self up in.

21 P orque o Senhor se levantará como no monte Perazim, e se irará como no vale de Gibeão, para realizar a sua obra, a sua estranha obra, e para executar o seu ato, o seu estranho ato.

For as mount Perazim rise doth Jehovah, As the valley in Gibeon He is troubled, To do His work -- strange His work, And to do His deed -- strange His deed.'

22 A gora, pois, não sejais escarnecedores, para que os vossos grilhões não se façam mais fortes; porque da parte do Senhor Deus dos exércitos ouvi um decreto de destruição completa e decisiva, sobre toda terra.

And now, show not yourselves scorners, Lest strong be your bands, For a consumption, that is determined, I have heard, by the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, for all the land.

23 I nclinai os ouvidos, e ouvi a minha voz; escutai, e ouvi o meu discurso.

Give ear, and hear my voice, Attend, and hear my saying:

24 P orventura lavra continuamente o lavrador, para semear? ou está sempre abrindo e esterroando a sua terra?

The whole day plougheth the ploughman to sow? He openeth and harroweth his ground!

25 N ão é antes assim: quando já tem nivelado a sua superfície, então espalha a nigela, semeia o cominho, lança o trigo a eito, a cevada no lugar determinado e a espelta na margem?

Hath he not, if he have made level its face, Then scattered fitches, and cummin sprinkle, And hath placed the principal wheat, And the appointed barley, And the rie its own border?

26 P ois o seu Deus o instrui devidamente e o ensina.

And instruct him for judgment doth his God, He doth direct him.

27 P orque a nigela não se trilha com instrumento de trilhar, nem sobre o cominho passa a roda de carro; mas a nigela é debulhada com uma vara, e o cominho com um pau.

For not with a sharp-pointed thing threshed are fitches, And the wheel of a cart on cummin turned round, For with a staff beaten out are fitches, And cummin with a rod.

28 A caso é esmiuçado o trigo? não; não se trilha continuamente, nem se esmiúça com as rodas do seu carro e os seus cavalos; não se esmiúça.

Bread- is beaten small, For not for ever doth he sorely thresh it, Nor crushed hath a wheel of his cart, Nor do his hoofs beat it small.

29 A té isso procede do Senhor dos exércitos, que é maravilhoso em conselho e grande em obra.

Even this from Jehovah of Hosts hath gone out, He hath made counsel wonderful, He hath made wisdom great!
