1 P ercebendo Joabe, filho de Zeruia, que o coração do rei estava inclinado para Absalão,

And Joab son of Zeruial knoweth that the heart of the king on Absalom,

2 m andou a Tecoa trazer de lá uma mulher sagaz, e disse-lhe: Ora, finge que estás de nojo; põe vestidos de luto, não te unjas com óleo, e faze-te como uma mulher que há muitos dias chora algum morto;

and Joab sendeth to Tekoah, and taketh thence a wise woman, and saith unto her, `Feign thyself a mourner, I pray thee, and put on, I pray thee, garments of mourning, and anoint not thyself with oil, and thou hast been as a woman these many days mourning for the dead,

3 v ai ter com o rei, e fala-lhe desta maneira. Então Joabe lhe pôs as palavras na boca.

and thou hast gone unto the king, and spoken unto him, according to this word;' and Joab putteth the words into her mouth.

4 A mulher tecoíta, pois, indo ter com o rei e prostrando-se com o rosto em terra, fez-lhe uma reverência e disse: Salva-me, o rei.

And the woman of Tekoah speaketh unto the king, and falleth on her face to the earth, and doth obeisance, and saith, `Save, O king.'

5 A o que lhe perguntou o rei: Que tens? Respondeu ela: Na verdade eu sou viúva; morreu meu marido.

And the king saith to her, `What -- to thee?' and she saith, `Truly a widow woman I, and my husband dieth,

6 T inha a tua serva dois filhos, os quais tiveram uma briga no campo e, não havendo quem os apartasse, um feriu ao outro, e o matou.

and thy maid-servant hath two sons; and they strive both of them in a field, and there is no deliverer between them, and the one smiteth the other, and putteth him to death;

7 E eis que toda a parentela se levantou contra a tua serva, dizendo: Dá-nos aquele que matou a seu irmão, para que o matemos pela vida de seu irmão, a quem ele matou, de modo que exterminemos também o herdeiro. Assim apagarão a brasa que me ficou, de sorte a não deixarem a meu marido nem nome, nem remanescente sobre a terra.

and lo, the whole family hath risen against thy maid-servant, and say, Give up him who smiteth his brother, and we put him to death for the life of his brother whom he hath slain, and we destroy also the heir; and they have quenched my coal which is left -- so as not to set to my husband a name and remnant on the face of the ground.'

8 E ntão disse o rei ã mulher: Vai para tua casa, e eu darei ordem a teu respeito.

And the king saith unto the woman, `Go to thine house, and I give charge concerning thee.'

9 R espondeu a mulher tecoíta ao rei: A iniqüidade, ó rei meu senhor, venha sobre mim e sobre a casa de meu pai; e fique inculpável o rei e o seu trono.

And the woman of Tekoah saith unto the king, `On me, my lord, O king, the iniquity, and on the house of my father; and the king and his throne innocent.'

10 T ornou o rei: Quem falar contra ti, traze-mo a mim, e nunca mais te tocará.

And the king saith, `He who speaketh unto thee, and thou hast brought him unto me, then he doth not add any more to come against thee.'

11 D isse ela: Ora, lembre-se o rei do Senhor seu Deus, para que o vingador do sangue não prossiga na destruição, e não extermine a meu filho. Então disse ele: Vive o Senhor, que não há de cair no chão nem um cabelo de teu filho.

And she saith, `Let, I pray thee, the king remember by Jehovah thy God, that the redeemer of blood add not to destroy, and they destroy not my son;' and he saith, `Jehovah liveth; if there doth fall of the hair of thy son to the earth.'

12 E ntão disse a mulher: Permite que a tua serva fale uma palavra ao rei meu senhor. Respondeu ele: Fala.

And the woman saith, `Let, I pray thee, thy maid-servant speak unto my lord the king a word;' and he saith, `Speak.'

13 A o que disse a mulher: Por que, pois, pensas tu tal coisa contra o povo de Deus? Pois, falando o rei esta palavra, fica como culpado, visto que o rei não torna a trazer o seu desterrado.

And the woman saith, `And why hast thou thought thus concerning the people of God? yea, the king is speaking this thing as a guilty one, in that the king hath not brought back his outcast;

14 P orque certamente morreremos, e serereos como águas derramadas na terra, que não se podem ajuntar mais; Deus, todavia, não tira a vida, mas cogita meios para que não fique banido dele o seu desterrado.

for we do surely die, and as water which is running down to the earth, which is not gathered, and God doth not accept a person, and hath devised devices in that the outcast is not outcast by Him.

15 E se eu agora vim falar esta palavra ao rei meu senhor, e porque o povo me atemorizou; pelo que dizia a tua serva: Falarei, pois, ao rei; porventura fará o rei segundo a palavra da sua serva.

`And now that I have come to speak unto the king my lord this word, because the people made me afraid, and thy maid-servant saith, Let me speak, I pray thee, unto the king; it may be the king doth do the word of his handmaid,

16 P orque o rei ouvirá, para livrar a sua serva da mão do homem que intenta exterminar da herança de Deus tanto a mim como a meu filho.

for the king doth hearken to deliver his handmaid out of the paw of the man to destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God,

17 D izia mais a tua serva: Que a palavra do rei meu senhor me dê um descanso; porque como o anjo de Deus é o rei, meu senhor, para discernir o bem e o mal; e o Senhor teu Deus seja contigo.

and thy maid-servant saith, Let, I pray thee, the word of my lord the king be for ease; for as a messenger of God so my lord the king, to understand the good and the evil; and Jehovah thy God is with thee.'

18 E ntão respondeu o rei ã mulher: Peço-te que não me encubras o que eu te perguntar. Tornou a mulher: Fale agora o rei meu senhor.

And the king answereth and saith unto the woman, `Do not, I pray thee, hide from me the thing that I am asking thee;' and the woman saith, `Let, I pray thee, my lord the king speak.'

19 P erguntou, pois, o rei: Não é verdade que a mão de Joabe está contigo em tudo isso? Respondeu a mulher: Vive a tua alma, ó rei meu senhor, que ninguém se poderá desviar, nem para a direita nem para a esquerda, de tudo quanto diz o rei meu senhor; porque Joabe, teu servo, é quem me deu ordem, e foi ele que pôs na boca da tua serva todas estas palavras;

And the king saith, `Is the hand of Joab with thee in all this?' And the woman answereth and saith, `Thy soul liveth, my lord, O king, none to the right or to the left from all that my lord the king hath spoken; for thy servant Joab he commanded me, and he put in the mouth of thy maid-servant all these words;

20 p ara mudar a feição do negócio é que Joabe, teu servo, fez isso. Sábio, porém, é meu senhor, conforme a sabedoria do anjo de Deus, para entender tudo o que há na terra.

in order to bring round the appearance of the thing hath thy servant Joab done this thing, and my lord wise, according to the wisdom of a messenger of God, to know all that in the land.'

21 E ntão o rei disse a Joabe: Eis que faço o que pedes; vai, pois, e faze voltar o mancebo Absalão.

And the king saith unto Joab, `Lo, I pray thee, thou hast done this thing; and go, bring back the young man Absalom.'

22 E ntão Joabe se prostrou com o rosto em terra e, fazendo uma reverência, abençoou o rei; e disse Joabe: Hoje conhece o teu servo que achei graça aos teus olhos, ó rei meu senhor, porque o rei fez segundo a palavra do teu servo.

And Joab falleth on his face to the earth, and doth obeisance, and blesseth the king, and Joab saith, `To-day hath thy servant known that I have found grace in thine eyes, my lord, O king, in that the king hath done the word of his servant.'

23 L evantou-se, pois, Joabe, foi a Gesue e trouxe Absalão para Jerusalém.

And Joab riseth and goeth to Geshur, and bringeth in Absalom to Jerusalem,

24 E disse o rei: Torne ele para sua casa, mas não venha ã minha presença. Tornou, pois, Absalão para sua casa, e não foi ã presença do rei.

and the king saith, `Let him turn round unto his house, and my face he doth not see.' And Absalom turneth round unto his house, and the face of the king he hath not seen.

25 N ão havia em todo o Israel homem tão admirável pela sua beleza como Absalão; desde a planta do pé até o alto da cabeça não havia nele defeito algum.

And like Absalom there was no man fair in all Israel, to praise greatly; from the sole of his foot even unto his crown there was no blemish in him;

26 E , quando ele cortava o cabelo, o que costumava fazer no fim de cada ano, porquanto lhe pesava muito, o peso do cabelo era de duzentos siclos, segundo o peso real.

and in his polling his head -- and it hath been at the end of year by year that he polleth, for it heavy on him, and he hath polled it -- he hath even weighed out the hair of his head -- two hundred shekels by the king's weight.

27 N asceram a Absalão três filhos, e uma filha cujo nome era Tamar; e esta era mulher formosa ã vista.

And there are born to Absalom three sons, and one daughter, and her name Tamar; she was a woman of a fair appearance.

28 A ssim ficou Absalão dois anos inteiros em Jerusalém, sem ver a face do rei.

And Absalom dwelleth in Jerusalem two years of days, and the face of the king he hath not seen;

29 E ntão Absalão mandou chamar Joabe, para o enviar ao rei; porém Joabe não quis vir a ele. Mandou chamá-lo segunda vez, mas ele não quis vir.

and Absalom sendeth unto Joab, to send him unto the king, and he hath not been willing to come unto him; and he sendeth again a second time, and he hath not been willing to come.

30 P elo que disse aos seus servos: Vede ali o campo de Joabe pegado ao meu, onde ele tem cevada; ide, e ponde-lhe fogo. E os servos de Absalão puseram fogo ao campo:

And he saith unto his servants, `See, the portion of Joab by the side of mine, and he hath barley there; go, and burn it with fire;' and the servants of Absalom burn the portion with fire.

31 E ntão Joabe se levantou, e veio ter com Absalão, em casa, e lhe perguntou: Por que os teus servos puseram fogo ao meu campo.

And Joab riseth and cometh unto Absalom in the house, and saith unto him, `Why have thy servants burned the portion that I have with fire?'

32 R espondeu Absalão a Joabe: Eis que enviei a ti, dizendo: Vem cá, para que te envie ao rei, a dizer-lhe: Para que vim de Gesur? Melhor me fora estar ainda lá. Agora, pois, veja eu a face do rei; e, se há em mim alguma culpa, que me mate.

And Absalom saith unto Joab, `Lo, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, and I send thee unto the king to say, Why have I come in from Geshur? -- good for me while I there -- and now, let me see the king's face, and if there is in me iniquity then thou hast put me to death.'

33 F oi, pois, Joabe ã presença do rei, e lho disse. Então o rei chamou Absalão, e ele entrou ã presença do rei, e se prostrou com o rosto em terra diante do rei; e o rei beijou Absalão.

And Joab cometh unto the king, and declareth to him, and he calleth unto Absalom, and he cometh unto the king, and boweth himself to him, on his face, to the earth, before the king, and the king giveth a kiss to Absalom.
