1 A palavra que veio a Jeremias da parte do Senhor, depois que Nebuzaradão, capitão da guarda, o deixara ir de Ramá, quando o havia tomado, estando ele atado com cadeias no meio de todos os do cativeiro de Jerusalém e de Judá, que estavam sendo levados cativos para Babilônia.

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath sent him from Ramah, in his taking him -- and he a prisoner in chains -- in the midst of all the removal of Jerusalem and of Judah, who are removed to Babylon.

2 O ra o capitão da guarda levou Jeremias, e lhe disse: O Senhor teu Deus pronunciou este mal contra este lugar;

And the chief of the executioners taketh Jeremiah, and saith unto him, `Jehovah thy God hath spoken this evil concerning this place,

3 e o Senhor o trouxe, e fez como havia dito; porque pecastes contra o Senhor, e não obedecestes ã sua voz, portanto vos sucedeu tudo isto.

and Jehovah bringeth in, and doth as He spake, because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened to His voice, even this thing hath been to you.

4 A gora pois, eis que te solto hoje das cadeias que estão sobre as tuas mãos. Se te apraz vir comigo para Babilônia, vem, e eu velarei por ti; mas, se não te apraz vir comigo para Babilônia, deixa de vir. Olha, toda a terra está diante de ti; para onde te parecer bem e conveniente ir, para ali vai.

`And now, lo, I have loosed thee to-day from the chains that on thy hand; if good in thine eyes to come with me Babylon, come, and I keep mine eye upon thee: and if evil in thine eyes to come with me to Babylon, forbear; see, all the land before thee, whither good, and whither right in thine eyes to go -- go.' --

5 S e assim quiseres, volta a Gedalias, filho de Aicão filho de Safã e a quem o rei de Babilônia constituiu governador das cidades de Judá, e habita com ele no meio do povo; ou vai para qualquer outra parte que te aprouver ir. E deu-lhe o capitão da guarda sustento para o caminho, e um presente, e o deixou ir.

and while he doth not reply -- `Or turn back unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him in the midst of the people, or whithersoever it is right in thine eyes to go -- go.' And the chief of the executioners giveth to him for the way, and a gift, and sendeth him away,

6 A ssim veio Jeremias a Gedalias, filho de Aicão, a Mizpá, e habitou com ele no meio do povo que havia ficado na terra.

and Jeremiah cometh in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelleth with him, in the midst of the people who are left in the land.

7 O uvindo pois todos os chefes das forças que estavam no campo, eles e os seus homens, que o rei de Babilônia havia constituído a Gedalias, filho de Aicão, governador da terra, e que lhe havia confiado homens, mulheres e crianças, os mais pobres da terra, que não foram levados cativos para Babilônia,

And all the heads of the forces that in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon hath appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he hath charged him men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;

8 v ieram ter com Gedalias, a Mizpá; e eram: Ismael, filho de Netanias, e Joanã e Jônatas, filhos de Careá, e Seraías, filho de Tanumete, e os filhos de Efai, o netofatita, e Jezanias, filho do maacatita, eles e os seus homens.

and they come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.

9 E jurou Gedalias, filho de Aicão, filho de Safã, eles e pos seus homens, dizendo: Não temais servir aos caldeus; habitai na terra, e servi o rei de Babilônia, e bem vos erá.

And swear to them doth Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and to their men, saying, `Be not afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;

10 Q uanto a mim, eis que habito em Mizpá, para vos representar diante dos caldeus que vierem a nós; vós, porém, colhei o vinho e os frutos de verão, e o azeite, e metei-os nos vossos vasos, e habitai nas vossas cidades, que tomastes.

and I, lo, I am dwelling in Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who are come in unto us, and ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruit, and oil, and put in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.'

11 D o mesmo modo, quando todos os judeus que estavam em Moabe, e entre os filhos de Amom, e em Edom, e os que havia em todos os países, ouviram que o rei de Babilônia havia deixado um resto em Judá, e que havia posto sobre eles a Guedalias, o de Aicão, filho de Safã;

And also all the Jews who in Moab, and among the sons of Ammon, and in Edom, and who in all the lands, have heard that the king of Babylon hath given a remnant to Judah, and that he hath appointed over them Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,

12 v oltaram, então, todos os judeus de todos os lugares para onde foram arrojados, e vieram para a terra de Judá, a Gedalias, a Mizpá, e colheram vinho e frutos do verão com muita abundância.

and all the Jews from all the places whither they have been driven, turn back and enter the land of Judah, unto Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and they gather wine and summer fruit -- very much.

13 J oanã, filho de Careá, e todos os chefes das forças que estavam no campo vieram ter com Gedalias, a Mizpá,

And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces that in the field, have come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah,

14 e disseram-lhe: Sabes que Baalis, rei dos filhos de Amom, enviou a Ismael, filho de Netanias, para te tirar a vida? Mas não lhes deu crédito Gedalias, filho de Aicão.

and they say unto him, `Dost thou really know that Baalis king of the sons of Ammon hath sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to smite thy soul?' And Gedaliah son of Ahikam hath not given to them credence.

15 T odavia Joanã, filho de Careá, falou a Gedalias em segredo, em Mizpá, dizendo: Deixa, peço-te, que eu vá e mate a Ismael, filho de Netanias, sem que ninguém o saiba. Por que razão te tiraria ele a vida, de modo que fossem dispersos todos os judeus que se têm congregado a ti, e perecesse o resto de Judá?

And Johanan son of Kareah hath spoken unto Gedaliah in secret, in Mizpah, saying, `Let me go, I pray thee, and I smite Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and no one doth know; why doth he smite thy soul? and scattered have been all Judah who are gathered unto thee, and perished hath the remnant of Judah.'

16 M as disse Gedalias, filho de Aicão, a Joanã, filho de Careá: Não faças tal coisa; pois falas falsamente contra Ismael.

And Gedaliah son of Ahikam saith unto Johanan son of Kareah, `Thou dost not do this thing, for falsehood thou art speaking concerning Ishmael.'
