1 D epois destas coisas e destes atos de fidelidade, veio Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria e, entrando em Judá, acampou-se contra as cidades fortes, a fim de apoderar-se delas.

After these things and this truth, come hath Sennacherib king of Asshur, yea, he cometh in to Judah, and encampeth against the cities of the bulwarks, and saith to rend them unto himself.

2 Q uando Ezequias viu que Senaqueribe tinha vindo com o propósito de guerrear contra Jerusalém,

And Hezekiah seeth that Sennacherib hath come, and his face to the battle against Jerusalem,

3 t eve conselho com os seus príncipes e os seus poderosos, para que se tapassem as fontes das águas que havia fora da cidade; e eles o ajudaram.

and he taketh counsel with his heads and his mighty ones, to stop the waters of the fountains that at the outside of the city -- and they help him,

4 A ssim muito povo se ajuntou e tapou todas as fontes, como também o ribeiro que corria pelo meio da terra, dizendo: Por que viriam os reis da Assíria, e achariam tantas águas?

and much people are gathered, and they stop all the fountains and the brook that is rushing into the midst of the land, saying, `Why do the kings of Asshur come, and have found much water?'

5 E zequias, cobrando ânimo, edificou todo o muro que estava demolido, levantando torres sobre ele, fez outro muro por fora, fortificou a Milo na cidade de Davi, e fez armas e escudos em abundância.

And he strengtheneth himself, and buildeth the whole of the wall that is broken, and causeth to ascend unto the towers, and at the outside of the wall another, and strengtheneth Millo, the city of David, and maketh darts in abundance, and shields.

6 E ntão pôs oficiais de guerra sobre o povo e, congregando-os na praça junto ã porta da cidade, falou-lhes ao coração, dizendo:

And he putteth heads of war over the people, and gathereth them unto him, unto the broad place of a gate of the city, and speaketh unto their heart, saying,

7 S ede corajosos, e tende bom ânimo; não temais, nem vos espanteis, por causa do rei da Assíria, nem por causa de toda a multidão que está com ele, pois há conosco um maior do que o que está com ele.

`Be strong and courageous, be not afraid, nor be cast down from the face of the king of Asshur, and from the face of all the multitude that with him, for with us more than with him.

8 C om ele está um braço de carne, mas conosco o Senhor nosso Deus, para nos ajudar e para guerrear por nós. E o povo descansou nas palavras de Ezequias, rei de Judá.

With him an arm of flesh, and with us Jehovah our God, to help us, and to fight our battles;' and the people are supported by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

9 D epois disso Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, enquanto estava diante de Laquis, com todas as suas forças, enviou os seus servos a Jerusalém a Ezequias, rei de Judá, e a todo o Judá que estava em Jerusalém, dizendo:

After this hath Sennacherib king of Asshur sent his servants to Jerusalem -- and he by Lachish, and all his power with him -- against Hezekiah king of Judah, and against all Judah, who in Jerusalem, saying,

10 A ssim diz Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria: Em que confiais vós, para vos deixardes sitiar em Jerusalém?

`Thus said Sennacherib king of Asshur, On what are ye trusting and abiding in the bulwark, in Jerusalem?

11 P orventura não vos engana Ezequias, para vos fazer morrer ã fome e ã sede, quando diz: O Senhor nosso Deus nos livrará das mãos do rei da Assíria?

`Is not Hezekiah persuading you, to give you up to die by famine, and by thirst, saying, Jehovah our God doth deliver us from the hand of the king of Asshur?

12 E sse mesmo Ezequias não lhe tirou os altos e os altares, e não ordenou a Judá e a Jerusalém, dizendo: Diante de um só altar adorareis, e sobre ele queimareis incenso?

Hath not Hezekiah himself turned aside His high places, and His altars, and speaketh to Judah and to Jerusalem, saying, Before one altar ye bow yourselves, and on it ye make perfume?

13 N ão sabeis vós o que eu e meus pais temos feito a todos os povos de outras terras? Puderam de qualquer maneira os deuses das nações daquelas terras livrar a sua terra da minha mão?

`Do ye not know what I have done -- I and my fathers -- to all peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands at all able to deliver their land out of my hand?

14 Q ual é, de todos os deuses daquelas nações que meus pais destruíram, o que pôde livrar o seu povo da minha mão, para que o vosso Deus vos possa livrar da minha mão?

Who among all the gods of these nations whom my fathers have devoted to destruction he who hath been able to deliver his people out of my hand, that your God is able to deliver you out of my hand?

15 A gora, pois, não vos engane Ezequias, nem vos incite assim, nem lhe deis crédito. Porque nenhum deus de nação alguma, nem de reino algum, pôde livrar o seu povo da minha mão, nem da mão de meus pais; quanto menos o vosso Deus vos poderá livrar da minha mão?

`And, now, let not Hezekiah lift you up, nor persuade you thus, nor give credence to him, for no god of any nation and kingdom is able to deliver his people from my hand, and from the hand of my fathers: also, surely your God doth not deliver you from my hand!'

16 E os servos de Senaqueribe falaram ainda mais contra o Senhor Deus, e contra o seu servo Ezequias.

And again have his servants spoken against Jehovah God, and against Hezekiah His servant,

17 E le também escreveu cartas para blasfemar do Senhor Deus de Israel, dizendo contra ele: Assim como os deuses das nações das terras não livraram o seu povo da minha mão, assim também o Deus de Ezequias não livrará o seu povo da minha mão.

and letters he hath written to give reproach to Jehovah, God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, `As the gods of the nations of the lands that have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah doth not deliver His people from my hand.'

18 E clamaram em alta voz, na língua dos judeus, ao povo de Jerusalém que estava em cima do muro, para os atemorizarem e os perturbarem, a fim de tomarem a cidade.

And they call with a great voice Jewish, against the people of Jerusalem who on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them, that they may capture the city,

19 E falaram do Deus de Jerusalém como dos deuses dos povos da terra, que são obras das mãos dos homens.

and they speak against the God of Jerusalem as against the gods of the peoples of the land -- work of the hands of man.

20 M as o rei Ezequias e o profeta Isaías, filho de Amoz, oraram por causa disso, e clamaram ao céu.

And Hezekiah the king prayeth, and Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet, concerning this, and they cry to the heavens,

21 E ntão o Senhor enviou um anjo que destruiu no arraial do rei da Assíria todos os guerreiros valentes, e os principes, e os chefes. Ele, pois, envergonhado voltou para a sua terra; e, quando entrou na casa de seu deus, alguns dos seus próprios filhos o mataram ali ã espada.

and Jehovah sendeth a messenger, and cutteth off every mighty one of valour -- both leader and head -- in the camp of the king of Asshur, and he turneth back with shame of face to his land, and entereth the house of his god, and those coming out of his bowels have caused him to fall there by the sword.

22 A ssim o Senhor salvou Ezequias, e os moradores de Jerusalém, da mão de Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, e da mão de todos; e lhes deu descanso de todos os lados.

And Jehovah saveth Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Asshur, and from the hand of all, and He leadeth them round about;

23 E muitos trouxeram presentes a Jerusalém ao Senhor, e coisas preciosas a Ezequias, rei de Judá, de modo que desde então ele foi exaltado perante os olhos de todas as nações.

and many are bringing in an offering to Jehovah, to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, and he is lifted up before the eyes of all the nations after this.

24 N aqueles dias Ezequias, adoecendo, estava ã morte: e orou ao Senhor o qual lhe respondeu, e lhe deu um sinal.

In those days hath Hezekiah been sick even unto death, and he prayeth unto Jehovah, and He speaketh to him, and a wonder hath appointed for him;

25 M as Ezequias não correspondeu ao benefício que lhe fora feito, pois o seu coração se exaltou; pelo que veio grande ira sobre ele, e sobre Judá e Jerusalém.

and Hezekiah hath not returned according to the deed unto him, for his heart hath been lofty, and there is wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem;

26 T odavia Ezequias humilhou-se pela soberba do seu coração, ele e os habitantes de Jerusalém; de modo que a grande ira do Senhor não veio sobre eles nos dias de Ezequias.

and Hezekiah is humbled for the loftiness of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the wrath of Jehovah hath not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

27 E teve Ezequias riquezas e honra em grande abundância; proveu-se de tesourarias para prata, ouro, pedras preciosas, especiarias, escudos, e toda espécie de objetos desejáveis;

And Hezekiah hath riches and honour very much, and treasures he hath made to himself of silver, and of gold, and of precious stone, and of spices, and of shields, and of all of desirable vessels,

28 t ambém de celeiros para o aumento de trigo, de vinho, e de azeite; e de estrebarias para toda a casta de animais, e de currais para os rebanhos.

and storehouses for the increase of corn, and new wine, and oil, and stalls for all kinds of cattle, and herds for stalls;

29 A lém disso edificou para si cidades, e teve rebanhos e manadas em abundância; pois Deus lhe tinha dado muitíssima fazenda.

and cities he hath made for himself, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance, for God hath given to him very much substance.

30 T ambém foi Ezequias quem tapou o manancial superior das águas de Giom, fazendo-as correr em linha reta pelo lado ocidental da cidade de Davi. Ezequias, pois, prosperou em todas as suas obras.

And Hezekiah himself hath stopped the upper source of the waters of Gihon, and directeth them beneath to the west of the city of David, and Hezekiah prospereth in all his work;

31 C ontudo, no negócio dos embaixadores dos príncipes de Babilônia, que lhe foram enviados a perguntarem acerca do prodígio que fora feito na sua terra, Deus o desamparou para experimentá-lo, e para saber tudo o que havia no seu coração.

and so with the ambassadors of the heads of Babylon, those sending unto him to inquire of the wonder that hath been in the land, God hath left him to try him, to know all in his heart,

32 O ra, o restante dos atos de Ezequias, e as suas boas obras, eis que estão escritos na visão do profeta Isaías, filho de Amoz, no livro dos reis de Judá e de Israel.

And the rest of the matters of Hezekiah, and his kind acts, lo, they are written in the vision of Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet, on the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

33 E Ezequias dormiu com seus pais, e o sepultaram no mais alto dos sepulcros dos filhos de Davi; e todo o Judá e os habitantes de Jerusalém lhe renderam honras na sua morte. E Manassés, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.

And Hezekiah lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in the uppermost of the graves of the sons of David, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have done honour to him at his death, and reign doth Manasseh his son in his stead.
