1 P erece o justo, e não há quem se importe com isso; os homens compassivos são arrebatados, e não há ninguém que entenda. Pois o justo é arrebatado da calamidade,

The righteous hath perished, And there is none laying to heart, And men of kindness are gathered, Without any considering that from the face of evil Gathered is the righteous one.

2 e ntra em paz; descansam nas suas camas todos os que andam na retidão.

He entereth into peace, they rest on their beds, is going straightforward.

3 M as chegai-vos aqui, vós os filhos da agoureira, linhagem do adúltero e da prostituta.

And ye, come near hither, O sons of a sorceress, seed of an adulterer, Even thou dost commit whoredom.

4 D e quem fazeis escárnio? Contra quem escancarais a boca, e deitais para fora a língua? Porventura não sois vós filhos da transgressão, estirpe da falsidade,

Against whom do ye sport yourselves? Against whom enlarge ye the mouth? Prolong ye the tongue? Are not ye children of transgression? a false seed?

5 q ue vos inflamais junto aos terebintos, debaixo de toda árvore verde, e sacrificais os filhos nos vales, debaixo das fendas dos penhascos?

Who are inflamed among oaks, under every green tree, Slaughtering the children in valleys, Under clefts of the rocks.

6 P or entre as pedras lisas do vale está o teu quinhão; estas, estas são a tua sorte; também a estas derramaste a tua libação e lhes ofereceste uma oblação. Contentar-me-ia com estas coisas?

Among the smooth things of a brook thy portion, They -- they thy lot, Also to them thou hast poured out an oblation, Thou hast caused a present to ascend, For these things am I comforted?

7 s obre um monte alto e levantado puseste a tua cama; e lá subiste para oferecer sacrifícios.

On a mountain, high and exalted, Thou hast set thy couch, Also thither thou hast gone up to make a sacrifice.

8 D etrás das portas e dos umbrais colocaste o teu memorial; pois te descobriste a outro que não a mim, e subiste, e alargaste a tua cama; e fizeste para ti um pacto com eles; amaste a sua cama, onde quer que a viste.

And behind the door, and the post, Thou hast set up thy memorial, For from Me thou hast removed, and goest up, Thou hast enlarged thy couch, And dost covenant for thyself among them, Thou hast loved their couch, the station thou sawest,

9 E foste ao rei com óleo, e multiplicaste os teus perfumes, e enviaste os teus embaixadores para longe, e te abateste até o Seol.

And goest joyfully to the king in ointment, And dost multiply thy perfumes, And sendest thine ambassadors afar off, And humblest thyself unto Sheol.

10 N a tua comprida viagem te cansaste; contudo não disseste: Não há esperança; achaste com que renovar as tuas forças; por isso não enfraqueceste.

In the greatness of thy way thou hast laboured, Thou hast not said, `It is desperate.' The life of thy hand thou hast found, Therefore thou hast not been sick.

11 M as de quem tiveste receio ou medo, para que mentisses, e não te lembrasses de mim, nem te importasses? Não é porventura porque eu me calei, e isso há muito tempo, e não me temes?

And of whom hast thou been afraid, and fearest, That thou liest, and Me hast not remembered? Thou hast not laid to thy heart, Am not I silent, even from of old? And Me thou fearest not?

12 E u publicarei essa justiça tua; e quanto

I declare thy righteousness, and thy works, And they do not profit thee.

13 Q uando clamares, livrem-te os ídolos que ajuntaste; mas o vento a todos levará, e um assopro os arrebatará; mas o que confia em mim possuirá a terra, e herdarão o meu santo monte.

When thou criest, let thy gatherings deliver thee, And all of them carry away doth wind, Take away doth vanity, And whoso is trusting in Me inheriteth the land, And doth possess My holy mountain.

14 E dir-se-á: Aplanai, aplanai, preparai e caminho, tirai os tropeços do caminho do meu povo.

And he hath said, `Raise up, raise up, prepare a way, Lift a stumbling-block out of the way of My people.'

15 P orque assim diz o Alto e o Excelso, que habita na eternidade e cujo nome é santo: Num alto e santo lugar habito, e também com o contrito e humilde de espírito, para vivificar o espírito dos humildes, e para vivificar o coração dos contritos.

For thus said the high and exalted One, Inhabiting eternity, and holy His name: `In the high and holy place I dwell, And with the bruised and humble of spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of bruised ones,'

16 P ois eu não contenderei para sempre, nem continuamente ficarei irado; porque de mim procede o espírito, bem como o fôlego da vida que eu criei.

For, not to the age do I strive, nor for ever am I wroth, For the spirit from before Me is feeble, And the souls I have made.

17 P or causa da iniqüidade da sua avareza me indignei e o feri; escondi-me, e indignei-me; mas, rebelando-se, ele seguiu o caminho do seu coração.

For the iniquity of his dishonest gain, I have been wroth, and I smite him, Hiding -- and am wroth, And he goeth on turning back in the way of his heart.

18 T enho visto os seus caminhos, mas eu o sararei; também o guiarei, e tornarei a dar-lhe consolação, a ele e aos que o pranteiam.

His ways I have seen, and I heal him, yea, I lead him, And recompense comforts to him and to his mourning ones.

19 E u crio o fruto dos lábios; paz, paz, para o que está longe, e para o que está perto diz o Senhor; e eu o sararei.

Producing the fruit of the lips, `Peace, peace,' to the far off, and to the near, And I have healed him, said Jehovah.

20 M as os ímpios são como o mar agitado; pois não pode estar quieto, e as suas águas lançam de si lama e lodo.

And the wicked as the driven out sea, For to rest it is not able, And its waters cast out filth and mire.

21 N ão há paz para os ímpios, diz o meu Deus.

There is no peace, said my God, to the wicked!
