1 P artiu toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel do deserto de Sim, pelas suas jornadas, segundo o mandamento do Senhor, e acamparam em Refidim; e não havia ali água para o povo beber.

And all the company of the sons of Israel journey from the wilderness of Sin, on their journeyings, by the command of Jehovah, and encamp in Rephidim, and there is no water for the people to drink;

2 E ntão o povo contendeu com Moisés, dizendo: Dá-nos água para beber. Respondeu-lhes Moisés: Por que contendeis comigo? por que tentais ao Senhor?

and the people strive with Moses, and say, `Give us water, and we drink.' And Moses saith to them, `What? -- ye strive with me, what? -- ye try Jehovah?'

3 M as o povo, tendo sede ali, murmurou contra Moisés, dizendo: Por que nos fizeste subir do Egito, para nos matares de sede, a nós e aos nossos filhos, e ao nosso gado?

and the people thirst there for water, and the people murmur against Moses, and say, `Why this? -- thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to put us to death, also our sons and our cattle, with thirst.'

4 P elo que Moisés, clamando ao Senhor, disse: Que hei de fazer a este povo? daqui a pouco me apedrejará.

And Moses crieth to Jehovah, saying, `What do I to this people? yet a little, and they have stoned me.'

5 E ntão disse o Senhor a Moisés: Passa adiante do povo, e leva contigo alguns dos anciãos de Israel; toma na mão a tua vara, com que feriste o rio, e vai-te.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Pass over before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel, and thy rod with which thou hast smitten the River take in thy hand, and thou hast gone:

6 E is que eu estarei ali diante de ti sobre a rocha, em Horebe; ferirás a rocha, e dela sairá agua para que o povo possa beber. Assim, pois fez Moisés ã vista dos anciãos de Israel.

Lo, I am standing before thee there on the rock in Horeb, and thou hast smitten on the rock, and waters have come out from it, and the people have drunk.' And Moses doth so before the eyes of the elders of Israel,

7 E deu ao lugar o nome de Massá e Meribá, por causa da contenda dos filhos de Israel, e porque tentaram ao Senhor, dizendo: Está o Senhor no meio de nós, ou não?

and he calleth the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the `strife' of the sons of Israel, and because of their `trying' Jehovah, saying, `Is Jehovah in our midst or not?'

8 E ntão veio Amaleque, e pelejou contra e Israel em Refidim.

And Amalek cometh, and fighteth with Israel in Rephidim,

9 P elo que disse Moisés a Josué: Escolhe-nos homens, e sai, peleja contra Amaleque; e amanhã eu estarei sobre o cume do outeiro, tendo na mão a vara de Deus.

and Moses saith unto Joshua, `Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I am standing on the top of the hill, and the rod of God in my hand.'

10 F ez, pois, Josué como Moisés lhe dissera, e pelejou contra Amaleque; e Moisés, Arão, e Hur subiram ao cume do outeiro.

And Joshua doth as Moses hath said to him, to fight with Amalek, and Moses, Aaron, and Hur, have gone up the top of the height;

11 E acontecia que quando Moisés levantava a mão, prevalecia Israel; mas quando ele abaixava a mão, prevalecia Amaleque.

and it hath come to pass, when Moses lifteth up his hand, that Israel hath been mighty, and when he letteth his hands rest, that Amalek hath been mighty.

12 A s mãos de Moisés, porém, ficaram cansadas; por isso tomaram uma pedra, e a puseram debaixo dele, e ele sentou-se nela; Arão e Hur sustentavam-lhe as mãos, um de um lado e o outro do outro; assim ficaram as suas mãos firmes até o pôr do sol.

And the hands of Moses heavy, and they take a stone, and set under him, and he sitteth on it: and Aaron and Hur have taken hold on his hands, on this side one, and on that one, and his hands are stedfast till the going in of the sun;

13 A ssim Josué prostrou a Amaleque e a seu povo, ao fio da espada.

and Joshua weakeneth Amalek and his people by the mouth of the sword.

14 E ntão disse o Senhor a Moisés: Escreve isto para memorial num livro, e relata-o aos ouvidos de Josué; que eu hei de riscar totalmente a memória de Amaleque de debaixo do céu.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Write this, a memorial in a Book, and set in the ears of Joshua, that I do utterly wipe away the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens;'

15 P elo que Moisés edificou um altar, ao qual chamou Jeová-Níssi.

and Moses buildeth an altar, and calleth its name Jehovah-Nissi,

16 E disse: Porquanto jurou o Senhor que ele fará guerra contra Amaleque de geração em geração.

and saith, `Because a hand on the throne of Jah, war to Jehovah with Amalek from generation -- generation.'
