1 T oda la congregación de los Israelitas marchó por jornadas desde el desierto de Sin, conforme al mandamiento del Señor. Acamparon en Refidim, y no había agua para que el pueblo bebiera.

And all the company of the sons of Israel journey from the wilderness of Sin, on their journeyings, by the command of Jehovah, and encamp in Rephidim, and there is no water for the people to drink;

2 E ntonces el pueblo discutió con Moisés, y le dijeron: “Danos agua para beber.” “¿Por qué discuten conmigo?” les dijo Moisés. “¿Por qué tientan al Señor ?”

and the people strive with Moses, and say, `Give us water, and we drink.' And Moses saith to them, `What? -- ye strive with me, what? -- ye try Jehovah?'

3 P ero el pueblo tuvo sed allí, y murmuró el pueblo contra Moisés, y dijo: “¿Por qué nos has hecho subir de Egipto para matarnos de sed a nosotros, a nuestros hijos y a nuestros ganados ?”

and the people thirst there for water, and the people murmur against Moses, and say, `Why this? -- thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to put us to death, also our sons and our cattle, with thirst.'

4 Y clamó Moisés al Señor y dijo: “¿Qué haré con este pueblo? Un poco más y me apedrearán.”

And Moses crieth to Jehovah, saying, `What do I to this people? yet a little, and they have stoned me.'

5 E ntonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: “Pasa delante del pueblo y toma contigo a algunos de los ancianos de Israel, y toma en tu mano la vara con la cual golpeaste el Nilo, y ve.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Pass over before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel, and thy rod with which thou hast smitten the River take in thy hand, and thou hast gone:

6 Y o estaré allí delante de ti sobre la peña en Horeb. Golpearás la peña, y saldrá agua de ella para que beba el pueblo.” Y así lo hizo Moisés en presencia de los ancianos de Israel.

Lo, I am standing before thee there on the rock in Horeb, and thou hast smitten on the rock, and waters have come out from it, and the people have drunk.' And Moses doth so before the eyes of the elders of Israel,

7 Y puso a aquel lugar el nombre de Masah (Prueba) y Meriba (Contienda), por la contienda de los Israelitas, y porque tentaron al Señor, diciendo: “¿Está el Señor entre nosotros o no?” Guerra con Amalec

and he calleth the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the `strife' of the sons of Israel, and because of their `trying' Jehovah, saying, `Is Jehovah in our midst or not?'

8 E ntonces vino Amalec y peleó contra Israel en Refidim.

And Amalek cometh, and fighteth with Israel in Rephidim,

9 Y Moisés dijo a Josué: “Escógenos hombres, y sal a pelear contra Amalec. Mañana yo estaré sobre la cumbre de la colina con la vara de Dios en mi mano.”

and Moses saith unto Joshua, `Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I am standing on the top of the hill, and the rod of God in my hand.'

10 J osué hizo como Moisés le dijo, y peleó contra Amalec. Moisés, Aarón y Hur subieron a la cumbre de la colina.

And Joshua doth as Moses hath said to him, to fight with Amalek, and Moses, Aaron, and Hur, have gone up the top of the height;

11 Y sucedía que mientras Moisés tenía en alto su mano, Israel prevalecía; y cuando dejaba caer la mano, prevalecía Amalec.

and it hath come to pass, when Moses lifteth up his hand, that Israel hath been mighty, and when he letteth his hands rest, that Amalek hath been mighty.

12 P ero las manos de Moisés se le cansaban. Entonces tomaron una piedra y la pusieron debajo de él, y se sentó en ella. Y Aarón y Hur le sostenían las manos, uno de un lado y otro del otro. Así estuvieron sus manos firmes hasta que se puso el sol.

And the hands of Moses heavy, and they take a stone, and set under him, and he sitteth on it: and Aaron and Hur have taken hold on his hands, on this side one, and on that one, and his hands are stedfast till the going in of the sun;

13 J osué deshizo a Amalec y a su pueblo a filo de espada.

and Joshua weakeneth Amalek and his people by the mouth of the sword.

14 E ntonces dijo el Señor a Moisés: “Escribe esto en un libro para que sirva de memorial, y haz saber a Josué que Yo borraré por completo la memoria de Amalec de debajo del cielo.”

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Write this, a memorial in a Book, and set in the ears of Joshua, that I do utterly wipe away the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens;'

15 Y edificó Moisés un altar, y le puso por nombre El Señor es mi Estandarte,

and Moses buildeth an altar, and calleth its name Jehovah-Nissi,

16 y dijo: “El Señor lo ha jurado. El Señor hará guerra contra Amalec de generación en generación.”

and saith, `Because a hand on the throne of Jah, war to Jehovah with Amalek from generation -- generation.'
