1 D ecía también Jesús a los discípulos: “Había cierto hombre rico que tenía un mayordomo; y éste fue acusado ante él de derrochar sus bienes.

And he said also unto his disciples, `A certain man was rich, who had a steward, and he was accused to him as scattering his goods;

2 E ntonces lo llamó y le dijo: ‘¿Qué es esto que oigo acerca de ti? Rinde cuentas de tu administración, porque no puedes ser más mayordomo.’

and having called him, he said to him, What this I hear about thee? render the account of thy stewardship, for thou mayest not any longer be steward.

3 Y el mayordomo se dijo a sí mismo: ‘¿Qué haré? Pues mi señor me quita la administración. No tengo fuerzas para cavar, y me da vergüenza mendigar.

`And the steward said in himself, What shall I do, because my lord doth take away the stewardship from me? to dig I am not able, to beg I am ashamed: --

4 Y a sé lo que haré, para que cuando se me destituya de la administración algunos me reciban en sus casas.’

I have known what I shall do, that, when I may be removed from the stewardship, they may receive me to their houses.

5 L lamando a cada uno de los deudores de su señor, dijo al primero: ‘¿Cuánto le debes a mi señor?’

`And having called near each one of his lord's debtors, he said to the first, How much dost thou owe to my lord?

6 Y él dijo: ‘Cien barriles (3700 litros) de aceite.’ El mayordomo le dijo: ‘Toma tu factura, siéntate pronto y escribe cincuenta.’

and he said, A hundred baths of oil; and he said to him, Take thy bill, and having sat down write fifty.

7 D espués dijo a otro: ‘Y tú, ¿cuánto debes?’ Y él respondió: ‘Cien medidas (unos 37, 000 litros) de trigo.’ El mayordomo le dijo: ‘Toma tu factura y escribe ochenta.’

`Afterward to another he said, And thou, how much dost thou owe? and he said, A hundred cors of wheat; and he saith to him, Take thy bill, and write eighty.

8 E l señor elogió al mayordomo injusto porque había procedido con sagacidad, pues los hijos de este siglo son más sagaces en las relaciones con sus semejantes que los hijos de la luz.

`And the lord commended the unrighteous steward that he did prudently, because the sons of this age are more prudent than the sons of the light, in respect to their generation.

9 P ero Yo les digo: háganse amigos por medio de las riquezas injustas, para que cuando les falten, los reciban en las moradas eternas.

and I say to you, Make to yourselves friends out of the mammon of unrighteousness, that when ye may fail, they may receive you to the age-during tabernacles.

10 “ El que es fiel en lo muy poco, es fiel también en lo mucho; y el que es injusto en lo muy poco, también es injusto en lo mucho.

`He who is faithful in the least, also faithful in much; and he who in the least unrighteous, is also unrighteous in much;

11 P or tanto, si no han sido fieles en el uso de las riquezas injustas, ¿quién les confiará las riquezas verdaderas?

if, then, in the unrighteous mammon ye became not faithful -- the true who will entrust to you?

12 Y si no han sido fieles en el uso de lo ajeno, ¿quién les dará lo que es de ustedes ?

and if in the other's ye became not faithful -- your own, who shall give to you?

13 N ingún siervo puede servir a dos señores, porque o aborrecerá a uno y amará al otro, o se apegará a uno y despreciará al otro. No pueden servir a Dios y a las riquezas.” Los Fariseos y la Ley

`No domestic is able to serve two lords, for either the one he will hate, and the other he will love; or one he will hold to, and of the other he will be heedless; ye are not able to serve God and mammon.'

14 L os Fariseos, que eran amantes del dinero, oían todas estas cosas y se burlaban de El.

And also the Pharisees, being lovers of money, were hearing all these things, and were deriding him,

15 Y Jesús les dijo: “Ustedes son los que se justifican a sí mismos ante los hombres, pero Dios conoce sus corazones, porque lo que entre los hombres es de alta estima, abominable es delante de Dios.

and he said to them, `Ye are those declaring yourselves righteous before men, but God doth know your hearts; because that which among men is high, abomination before God;

16 “ La Ley y los Profetas se proclamaron hasta Juan; desde entonces se anuncian las buenas nuevas (el evangelio) del reino de Dios, y todos se esfuerzan por entrar en él.

the law and the prophets till John; since then the reign of God is proclaimed good news, and every one doth press into it;

17 P ero es más fácil que el cielo y la tierra pasen, que un ápice de la Ley deje de cumplirse.

and it is easier to the heaven and the earth to pass away, than of the law one tittle to fall.

18 “ Todo el que se divorcia de su mujer y se casa con otra, comete adulterio; y el que se casa con la que está divorciada del marido, comete adulterio. El Rico y Lázaro

`Every one who is sending away his wife, and marrying another, doth commit adultery; and every one who is marrying her sent away from a husband doth commit adultery.

19 “ Había cierto hombre rico que se vestía de púrpura y lino fino, celebrando cada día fiestas con esplendidez.

`And -- a certain man was rich, and was clothed in purple and fine linen, making merry sumptuously every day,

20 Y un pobre llamado Lázaro que se tiraba en el suelo a su puerta cubierto de llagas,

and there was a certain poor man, by name Lazarus, who was laid at his porch, full of sores,

21 a nsiaba saciarse de las migajas que caían de la mesa del rico; además, hasta los perros venían y le lamían las llagas.

and desiring to be filled from the crumbs that are falling from the table of the rich man; yea, also the dogs, coming, were licking his sores.

22 S ucedió que murió el pobre y fue llevado por los ángeles al seno de Abraham; y murió también el rico y fue sepultado.

`And it came to pass, that the poor man died, and that he was carried away by the messengers to the bosom of Abraham -- and the rich man also died, and was buried;

23 E n el Hades (la región de los muertos) el rico alzó sus ojos, estando en tormentos, y vio a Abraham a lo lejos, y a Lázaro en su seno.

and in the hades having lifted up his eyes, being in torments, he doth see Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom,

24 Y gritando, dijo: ‘Padre Abraham, ten misericordia de mí, y envía a Lázaro para que moje la punta de su dedo en agua y refresque mi lengua, pues estoy en agonía en esta llama.’

and having cried, he said, Father Abraham, deal kindly with me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and may cool my tongue, because I am distressed in this flame.

25 P ero Abraham le dijo: ‘Hijo, recuerda que durante tu vida recibiste tus bienes, y Lázaro, igualmente, males; pero ahora él es consolado aquí, y tú estás en agonía.

`And Abraham said, Child, remember that thou did receive -- thou -- thy good things in thy life, and Lazarus in like manner the evil things, and now he is comforted, and thou art distressed;

26 A demás de todo esto, hay un gran abismo puesto entre nosotros y ustedes, de modo que los que quieran pasar de aquí a ustedes no pueden, y tampoco nadie puede cruzar de allá a nosotros.’

and besides all these things, between us and you a great chasm is fixed, so that they who are willing to go over from hence unto you are not able, nor do they from thence to us pass through.

27 E ntonces él dijo: ‘Te ruego, pues, padre, que lo envíes a la casa de mi padre,

`And he said, I pray thee, then, father, that thou mayest send him to the house of my father,

28 p ues tengo cinco hermanos, de modo que él los prevenga, para que ellos no vengan también a este lugar de tormento.’

for I have five brothers, so that he may thoroughly testify to them, that they also may not come to this place of torment.

29 P ero Abraham dijo: ‘Ellos tienen a Moisés y a los Profetas; que los oigan a ellos.’

`Abraham saith to him, They have Moses and the prophets, let them hear them;

30 Y el rico contestó: ‘No, padre Abraham, sino que si alguien va a ellos de entre los muertos, se arrepentirán.’

and he said, No, father Abraham, but if any one from the dead may go unto them, they will reform.

31 P ero Abraham le contestó: ‘Si no escuchan a Moisés y a los Profetas, tampoco se persuadirán si alguien se levanta de entre los muertos.’”

And he said to him, If Moses and the prophets they do not hear, neither if one may rise out of the dead will they be persuaded.'
