1 E ntonces el Señor envió a Natán a David. Y Natán vino a él y le dijo: “Había dos hombres en una ciudad, el uno rico, y el otro pobre.

And Jehovah sendeth Nathan unto David, and he cometh unto him, and saith to him: `Two men have been in one city; One rich and one poor;

2 E l rico tenía muchas ovejas y vacas.

The rich hath flocks and herds very many;

3 P ero el pobre no tenía más que una corderita Que él había comprado y criado, La cual había crecido junto con él y con sus hijos. Comía de su pan, bebía de su copa y dormía en su seno, Y era como una hija para él.

And the poor one hath nothing, Except one little ewe-lamb, Which he hath bought, and keepeth alive, And it groweth up with him, And with his sons together; Of his morsel it eateth, And from his cup it drinketh, And in his bosom it lieth, And it is to him as a daughter;

4 V ino un viajero a visitar al hombre rico Y éste no quiso tomar de sus ovejas ni de sus vacas Para preparar comida para el caminante que había venido a él, Sino que tomó la corderita de aquel hombre pobre y la preparó para el hombre que había venido a visitarlo.”

And there cometh a traveller to the rich man, And he spareth to take Of his own flock, and of his own herd, To prepare for the traveller Who hath come to him, And he taketh the ewe-lamb of the poor man, And prepareth it for the man Who hath come unto him.'

5 Y se encendió la ira de David en gran manera contra aquel hombre, y dijo a Natán: “Vive el Señor, que ciertamente el hombre que hizo esto merece morir;

And the anger of David burneth against the man exceedingly, and he saith unto Nathan, `Jehovah liveth, surely a son of death the man who is doing this,

6 y debe pagar cuatro veces por la cordera, porque hizo esto y no tuvo compasión.”

and the ewe-lamb he doth repay fourfold, because that he hath done this thing, and because that he had no pity.'

7 E ntonces Natán dijo a David: “Tú eres aquel hombre. Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: ‘Yo te ungí rey sobre Israel y te libré de la mano de Saúl.

And Nathan saith unto David, `Thou the man! Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, I anointed thee for king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

8 Y o también entregué a tu cuidado la casa de tu señor y las mujeres de tu señor, y te di la casa de Israel y de Judá; y si eso hubiera sido poco, te hubiera añadido muchas cosas como éstas.

and I give to thee the house of thy lord, and the wives of thy lord, into thy bosom, and I give to thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if little, then I add to thee such and such.

9 ¿ Por qué has despreciado la palabra del Señor haciendo lo malo ante Sus ojos? Has matado a espada a Urías el Hitita, has tomado su mujer para que sea mujer tuya, y a él lo has matado con la espada de los Amonitas.

`Wherefore hast thou despised the word of Jehovah, to do the evil thing in His eyes? Uriah the Hittite thou hast smitten by the sword, and his wife thou hast taken to thee for a wife, and him thou hast slain by the sword of the Bene-Ammon.

10 A hora pues, la espada nunca se apartará de tu casa, porque Me has despreciado y has tomado la mujer de Urías el Hitita para que sea tu mujer.’”

`And now, the sword doth not turn aside from thy house unto the age, because thou hast despised Me, and dost take the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be to thee for a wife;

11 “ Así dice el Señor: ‘Por eso, de tu misma casa levantaré el mal contra ti; y aun tomaré tus mujeres delante de tus ojos y las daré a tu compañero, y éste se acostará con tus mujeres a plena luz del día.

thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am raising up against thee evil, out of thy house, and have taken thy wives before thine eyes, and given to thy neighbour, and he hath lain with thy wives before the eyes of this sun;

12 ‘ En verdad, tú lo hiciste en secreto, pero Yo haré esto delante de todo Israel y a plena luz del sol.’”

for thou hast done in secret, and I do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.'

13 E ntonces David dijo a Natán: “He pecado contra el Señor.” Y Natán dijo a David: “El Señor ha quitado tu pecado; no morirás.

And David saith unto Nathan, `I have sinned against Jehovah.' And Nathan saith unto David, `Also -- Jehovah hath caused thy sin to pass away; thou dost not die;

14 S in embargo, por cuanto con este hecho has dado ocasión de blasfemar a los enemigos del Señor, ciertamente morirá el niño que te ha nacido.”

only, because thou hast caused the enemies of Jehovah greatly to despise by this thing, also the son who is born to thee doth surely die.'

15 Y Natán regresó a su casa. Entonces el Señor hirió al niño que la viuda de Urías dio a David, y se puso muy enfermo.

And Nathan goeth unto his house, and Jehovah smiteth the lad, whom the wife of Uriah hath born to David, and it is incurable;

16 D avid rogó a Dios por el niño; y ayunó, y fue y pasó la noche acostado en el suelo.

and David seeketh God for the youth, and David keepeth a fast, and hath gone in and lodged, and lain on the earth.

17 L os ancianos de su casa se pusieron a su lado para levantarlo del suelo, pero él no quiso, y no comió con ellos.

And the elders of his house rise against him, to raise him up from the earth, and he hath not been willing, nor hath he eaten with them bread;

18 S ucedió que al séptimo día el niño murió. Los siervos de David temían informarle que el niño había muerto, pues se decían: “Si cuando el niño todavía estaba vivo, le hablábamos y no nos escuchaba, ¿cómo, pues, vamos a decirle que el niño ha muerto? Puede hacer se daño.”

and it cometh to pass on the seventh day, that the lad dieth, and the servants of David fear to declare to him that the lad is dead, for they said, `Lo, in the lad being alive we spake unto him, and he did not hearken to our voice; and how do we say unto him, The lad is dead? -- then he hath done evil.'

19 P ero viendo David que sus siervos susurraban entre sí, comprendió que el niño había muerto, y dijo a sus siervos: “¿Ha muerto el niño?” “Ha muerto,” respondieron ellos.

And David seeth that his servants are whispering, and David understandeth that the lad is dead, and David saith unto his servants, `Is the lad dead?' and they say, `Dead.'

20 E ntonces David se levantó del suelo, se lavó, se ungió y se cambió de ropa; entró en la casa del Señor y adoró. Después vino a su casa y cuando pidió, le pusieron comida delante y comió.

And David riseth from the earth, and doth bathe and anoint, and changeth his raiment, and cometh in to the house of Jehovah, and boweth himself, and cometh unto his house, and asketh and they place for him bread, and he eateth.

21 A sí que sus siervos le dijeron: “¿Qué es esto que ha hecho? Mientras el niño vivía, usted ayunaba y lloraba, pero cuando el niño murió, se levantó y comió pan.”

And his servants say unto him, `What this thing thou hast done? because of the living lad thou hast fasted and dost weep, and when the lad is dead thou hast risen and dost eat bread.'

22 Y él respondió: “Mientras el niño aún vivía, yo ayunaba y lloraba, pues me decía: ‘¿Quién sabe si el Señor tendrá compasión de mí y el niño viva ?’

And he saith, `While the lad is alive I have fasted, and weep, for I said, Who knoweth? -- Jehovah doth pity me, and the lad hath lived;

23 P ero ahora que ha muerto, ¿por qué he de ayunar? ¿Podré hacer que vuelva? Yo iré a él, pero él no volverá a mí.”

and now, he hath died, why this -- I fast? am I able to bring him back again? I am going unto him, and he doth not turn back unto me.'

24 E ntonces David consoló a Betsabé su mujer, y vino a ella y se acostó con ella; y ella dio a luz un hijo; y él le puso por nombre Salomón. Y el Señor lo amó,

And David comforteth Bath-Sheba his wife, and goeth in unto her, and lieth with her, and she beareth a son, and he calleth his name Solomon; and Jehovah hath loved him,

25 y envió un mensaje por medio del profeta Natán, y le puso el nombre de Jedidías, por causa del Señor. David Conquista a Rabá

and sendeth by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and calleth his name Jedidiah, because of Jehovah.

26 J oab combatió contra Rabá, ciudad de los Amonitas, y conquistó la ciudad real.

And Joab fighteth against Rabbah of the Bene-Ammon, and captureth the royal city,

27 E ntonces Joab envió mensajeros a David que le dijeran: “He combatido contra Rabá, y también he tomado la ciudad de las aguas.

and Joab sendeth messengers unto David, and saith, `I have fought against Rabbah -- also I have captured the city of waters;

28 A hora pues, reúna el resto del pueblo y acampe contra la ciudad y tómela, no sea que tome yo la ciudad y sea llamada por mi nombre.”

and now, gather the rest of the people, and encamp against the city, and capture it, lest I capture the city, and my name hath been called upon it.'

29 D avid reunió a todo el pueblo y fue a Rabá, y peleó contra ella y la tomó.

And David gathereth all the people, and goeth to Rabbah, and fighteth against it, and captureth it;

30 Q uitó la corona de la cabeza de su rey, la cual pesaba 34 kilos de oro y tenía una piedra preciosa, y fue puesta sobre la cabeza de David. Y él sacó botín de la ciudad en grandes cantidades.

and he taketh the crown of their king from off his head, and its weight a talent of gold, and precious stones, and it is on the head of David; and the spoil of the city he hath brought out, very much;

31 Y la gente que había en ella, la sacó y la puso a trabajar con sierras, con trillos de hierro y con hachas de hierro; también la puso a trabajar en los hornos de ladrillos. Así hizo a todas las ciudades de los Amonitas. Entonces regresó David con todo el pueblo a Jerusalén.

and the people who in it he hath brought out, and setteth to the saw, and to cutting instruments of iron, and to axes of iron, and hath caused them to pass over into the brick-kiln; and so he doth to all the cities of the Bene-Ammon; and David turneth back, and all the people, to Jerusalem.
