1 V isión de Abdías. Así dice el Señor Dios acerca de Edom: “Hemos oído un mensaje del Señor, Y un mensajero ha sido enviado a las naciones, a decirles: “Levántense y alcémonos contra Edom en batalla.”

Thus said the Lord Jehovah to Edom, A report we have heard from Jehovah, And an ambassador among nations was sent, `Rise, yea, let us rise against her for battle.'

2 Y o te haré pequeño entre las naciones; Despreciado eres en gran manera.

Lo, little I have made thee among nations, Despised thou exceedingly.

3 L a soberbia de tu corazón te ha engañado, Tú que habitas en las hendiduras de la peña, En las alturas de tu morada; Que dices en tu corazón: ‘¿Quién me derribará por tierra ?’

The pride of thy heart hath lifted thee up, O dweller in clifts of a rock, (A high place his habitation, He is saying in his heart, `Who doth bring me down earth?')

4 A unque te remontes como el águila, Y aunque entre las estrellas pongas tu nido, De allí te derribaré,” declara el Señor.

If thou dost go up high as an eagle, And if between stars thou dost set thy nest, From thence I bring thee down, An affirmation of Jehovah.

5 S i vinieran a ti ladrones O salteadores de noche (¡cómo quedarías arruinado!), ¿No robarían sólo hasta que les bastara? Si vinieran a ti vendimiadores, ¿No dejarían algunos rebuscos (racimos) ?

If thieves have come in to thee, If spoilers of the night, How hast thou been cut off! Do they not steal their sufficiency? If gatherers have come in to thee, Do they not leave gleanings?

6 ¡ Cómo será escudriñado Esaú, Y rebuscados sus tesoros escondidos!

How hath Esau been searched out! Flowed out have his hidden things,

7 H asta la frontera te echarán Todos tus aliados; Te engañarán, te dominarán Los que están en paz contigo; Los que comen tu pan Tenderán emboscada contra ti. (No hay entendimiento en él (Esaú).)

Unto the border sent thee have all thine allies, Forgotten thee, prevailed over thee, have thy friends, Thy bread they make a snare under thee, There is no understanding in him!

8 ¿ No destruiré en aquel día,” declara el Señor “a los sabios de Edom Y el entendimiento del monte de Esaú?

Is it not in that day -- an affirmation of Jehovah, That I have destroyed the wise out of Edom, And understanding out of the mount of Esau?

9 E ntonces tus valientes serán atemorizados, oh Temán, De modo que todo hombre será cortado del monte de Esaú con muerte violenta.

And broken down have been thy mighty ones, O Teman, So that every one of the mount of Esau is cut off.

10 P or la violencia contra tu hermano Jacob, Te cubrirá la vergüenza, Y serás cortado para siempre.

For slaughter, for violence thy brother Jacob, Cover thee doth shame, And thou hast been cut off -- to the age.

11 E l día que te pusiste a un lado, El día en que extraños se llevaban su riqueza, Y extranjeros entraban por su puerta Y sobre Jerusalén echaban suertes, Tú también eras como uno de ellos.

In the day of thy standing over-against, In the day of strangers taking captive his force, And foreigners have entered his gates, And for Jerusalem have cast a lot, Even thou as one of them!

12 N o te alegres en el día de tu hermano, En el día de su exterminio. No te alegres de los hijos de Judá En el día de su destrucción. Sí, no te jactes En el día de su angustia.

And -- thou dost not look on the day of thy brother, On the day of his alienation, Nor dost thou rejoice over sons of Judah, In the day of their destruction, Nor make great thy mouth in a day of distress.

13 N o entres por la puerta de Mi pueblo En el día de su ruina. Sí, no te alegres tú de su desgracia En el día de su ruina; No te apoderes de sus riquezas En el día de su ruina.

Nor come into a gate of My people in a day of their calamity, Nor look, even thou, on its misfortune in a day of its calamity, Nor send forth against its force in a day of its calamity,

14 N o aceches en la encrucijada Para exterminar a sus fugitivos, Y no entregues a sus sobrevivientes En el día de su angustia. Restauración de Israel

Nor stand by the breach to cut off its escaped, Nor deliver up its remnant in a day of distress.

15 P orque se acerca el día del Señor sobre todas las naciones. Como tú has hecho, te será hecho; Tus acciones recaerán sobre tu cabeza.

For near the day of Jehovah, on all the nations, As thou hast done, it is done to thee, Thy deed doth turn back on thine own head.

16 C omo ustedes bebieron en Mi santo monte, Así beberán continuamente todas las naciones. Beberán y tragarán, Y serán como si no hubieran sido.

For -- as ye have drunk on My holy mount, Drink do all the nations continually, And they have drunk and have swallowed, And they have been as they have not been.

17 P ero en el Monte Sion quedará un remanente, Y será lugar santo, Y la casa de Jacob volverá a tomar sus posesiones.

And in mount Zion there is an escape, And it hath been holy, And the house of Jacob have possessed their possessions.

18 E ntonces la casa de Jacob será un fuego, Y la casa de José una llama, Y hojarasca la casa de Esaú. Los quemarán y los consumirán, Y no quedará sobreviviente alguno de la casa de Esaú,” Porque el Señor ha hablado.

And the house of Jacob hath been a fire, And the house of Joseph a flame, And the house of Esau for stubble, And they have burned among them, And they have consumed them, And there is not a remnant to the house of Esau, For Jehovah hath spoken.

19 E ntonces los del Neguev (región del sur) poseerán el monte de Esaú, Y los de la Sefela, la llanura de los Filisteos; Poseerán también el territorio de Efraín y el territorio de Samaria, Y Benjamín poseerá Galaad.

And they have possessed the south with the mount of Esau, And the low country with the Philistines, And they have possessed the field of Ephraim, And the field of Samaria, And Benjamin with Gilead.

20 Y los desterrados de este ejército de los Israelitas Que están entre los Cananeos hasta Sarepta, Y los desterrados de Jerusalén que están en Sefarad, Poseerán las ciudades del Neguev.

And the removed of this force of the sons of Israel, That the Canaanites unto Zarephat, And the removed of Jerusalem that with the Sepharad, Possess the cities of the south.

21 L os libertadores subirán al Monte Sion Para juzgar al monte de Esaú, Y el reino será del Señor.

And gone up have saviours on mount Zion, To judge the mount of Esau, And the kingdom hath been to Jehovah!'
