1 D espués de estas cosas la palabra del Señor vino a Abram en visión, diciendo: “No temas, Abram, Yo soy un escudo para ti; Tu recompensa será muy grande.”

After these things hath the word of Jehovah been unto Abram in a vision, saying, `Fear not, Abram, I a shield to thee, thy reward exceeding great.'

2 Y Abram dijo: “Oh Señor Dios, ¿qué me darás, puesto que yo estoy sin hijos, y el heredero de mi casa es Eliezer de Damasco?”

And Abram saith, `Lord Jehovah, what dost Thou give to me, and I am going childless? and an acquired son in my house is Demmesek Eliezer.'

3 D ijo además Abram: “No me has dado descendencia, y uno nacido en mi casa es mi heredero.”

And Abram saith, `Lo, to me Thou hast not given seed, and lo, a domestic doth heir me.'

4 P ero la palabra del Señor vino a él, diciendo: “Tu heredero no será éste, sino uno que saldrá de tus entrañas, él será tu heredero.”

And lo, the word of Jehovah unto him, saying, `This doth not heir thee; but he who cometh out from thy bowels, he doth heir thee;'

5 E l Señor lo llevó fuera, y le dijo: “Ahora mira al cielo y cuenta las estrellas, si te es posible contarlas.” Y añadió: “Así será tu descendencia.”

and He bringeth him out without, and saith, `Look attentively, I pray thee, towards the heavens, and count the stars, if thou art able to count them;' and He saith to him, `Thus is thy seed.'

6 Y Abram creyó en el Señor, y El se lo reconoció por justicia.

And he hath believed in Jehovah, and He reckoneth it to him -- righteousness.

7 Y le dijo: “Yo soy el Señor que te saqué de Ur de los Caldeos, para darte esta tierra para que la poseas.”

And He saith unto him, `I Jehovah who brought thee out from Ur of the Chaldees, to give to thee this land to possess it;'

8 E ntonces Abram le preguntó: “Oh Señor Dios, ¿cómo puedo saber que la poseeré ?”

and he saith, `Lord Jehovah, whereby do I know that I possess it?'

9 E l Señor le respondió: “Tráeme una novilla de tres años, una cabra de tres años, un carnero de tres años, una tórtola y un pichón.”

And He saith unto him, `Take for Me a heifer of three years, and a she-goat of three years, and a ram of three years, and a turtle-dove, and a young bird;'

10 A bram Le trajo todos éstos, los partió por la mitad, y puso cada mitad enfrente de la otra; pero no partió las aves.

and he taketh to him all these, and separateth them in the midst, and putteth each piece over against its fellow, but the bird he hath not divided;

11 Y las aves de rapiña descendían sobre los animales sacrificados, pero Abram las ahuyentaba. Pacto de Dios con Abram

and the ravenous birds come down upon the carcases, and Abram causeth them to turn back.

12 A la puesta del sol un profundo sueño cayó sobre Abram. El terror de una gran oscuridad cayó sobre él.

And the sun is about to go in, and deep sleep hath fallen upon Abram, and lo, a terror of great darkness is falling upon him;

13 Y Dios dijo a Abram: “Ten por cierto que tus descendientes serán extranjeros en una tierra que no es suya, donde serán esclavizados y oprimidos durante 400 años.

and He saith to Abram, `knowing -- know that thy seed is a sojourner in a land not theirs, and they have served them, and they have afflicted them four hundred years,

14 P ero Yo también juzgaré a la nación a la cual servirán, y después saldrán de allí con grandes riquezas.

and the nation also whom they serve I judge, and after this they go out with great substance;

15 T ú irás a tus padres en paz, y serás sepultado en buena vejez.

and thou -- thou comest in unto thy fathers in peace; thou art buried in a good old age;

16 “ En la cuarta generación ellos regresarán acá, porque hasta entonces no habrá llegado a su colmo la iniquidad de los Amorreos.”

and the fourth generation doth turn back hither, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete.'

17 Y sucedió que cuando el sol ya se había puesto, hubo densas tinieblas, y apareció un horno humeante y una antorcha de fuego que pasó por entre las mitades de los animales.

And it cometh to pass -- the sun hath gone in, and thick darkness hath been -- and lo, a furnace of smoke, and a lamp of fire, which hath passed over between those pieces.

18 E n aquel día el Señor hizo un pacto con Abram, diciendo: “A tu descendencia he dado esta tierra, Desde el río de Egipto hasta el río grande, el Río Eufrates:

In that day hath Jehovah made with Abram a covenant, saying, `To thy seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Phrat,

19 l a tierra de los Quenitas, los Cenezeos, los Cadmoneos,

with the Kenite, and the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite,

20 l os Hititas, los Ferezeos, los Refaías,

and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim,

21 l os Amorreos, los Cananeos, los Gergeseos y los Jebuseos.”

and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.'
