1 D ESPUÉS de estas cosas fué la palabra de Jehová á Abram en visión, diciendo: No temas, Abram; yo soy tu escudo, y tu galardón sobremanera grande.

After these things hath the word of Jehovah been unto Abram in a vision, saying, `Fear not, Abram, I a shield to thee, thy reward exceeding great.'

2 Y respondió Abram: Señor Jehová ¿qué me has de dar, siendo así que ando sin hijo, y el mayordomo de mi casa es ese Damasceno Eliezer?

And Abram saith, `Lord Jehovah, what dost Thou give to me, and I am going childless? and an acquired son in my house is Demmesek Eliezer.'

3 D ijo más Abram: Mira que no me has dado prole, y he aquí que es mi heredero uno nacido en mi casa.

And Abram saith, `Lo, to me Thou hast not given seed, and lo, a domestic doth heir me.'

4 Y luego la palabra de Jehová fué á él diciendo: No te heredará éste, sino el que saldrá de tus entrañas será el que te herede.

And lo, the word of Jehovah unto him, saying, `This doth not heir thee; but he who cometh out from thy bowels, he doth heir thee;'

5 Y sacóle fuera, y dijo: Mira ahora á los cielos, y cuenta las estrellas, si las puedes contar. Y le dijo: Así será tu simiente.

and He bringeth him out without, and saith, `Look attentively, I pray thee, towards the heavens, and count the stars, if thou art able to count them;' and He saith to him, `Thus is thy seed.'

6 Y creyó á Jehová, y contóselo por justicia.

And he hath believed in Jehovah, and He reckoneth it to him -- righteousness.

7 Y díjole: Yo soy Jehová, que te saqué de Ur de los Caldeos, para darte á heredar esta tierra.

And He saith unto him, `I Jehovah who brought thee out from Ur of the Chaldees, to give to thee this land to possess it;'

8 Y él respondió: Señor Jehová ¿en qué conoceré que la tengo de heredar?

and he saith, `Lord Jehovah, whereby do I know that I possess it?'

9 Y le dijo: Apártame una becerra de tres años, y una cabra de tres años, y un carnero de tres años, una tórtola también, y un palomino.

And He saith unto him, `Take for Me a heifer of three years, and a she-goat of three years, and a ram of three years, and a turtle-dove, and a young bird;'

10 Y tomó él todas estas cosas, y partiólas por la mitad, y puso cada mitad una enfrente de otra; mas no partió las aves.

and he taketh to him all these, and separateth them in the midst, and putteth each piece over against its fellow, but the bird he hath not divided;

11 Y descendían aves sobre los cuerpos muertos, y ojeábalas Abram.

and the ravenous birds come down upon the carcases, and Abram causeth them to turn back.

12 M as á la caída del sol sobrecogió el sueño á Abram, y he aquí que el pavor de una grande obscuridad cayó sobre él.

And the sun is about to go in, and deep sleep hath fallen upon Abram, and lo, a terror of great darkness is falling upon him;

13 E ntonces dijo á Abram: Ten por cierto que tu simiente será peregrina en tierra no suya, y servirá á los de allí, y serán por ellos afligidos cuatrocientos años.

and He saith to Abram, `knowing -- know that thy seed is a sojourner in a land not theirs, and they have served them, and they have afflicted them four hundred years,

14 M as también á la gente á quien servirán, juzgaré yo; y después de esto saldrán con grande riqueza.

and the nation also whom they serve I judge, and after this they go out with great substance;

15 Y tú vendrás á tus padres en paz, y serás sepultado en buena vejez.

and thou -- thou comest in unto thy fathers in peace; thou art buried in a good old age;

16 Y en la cuarta generación volverán acá: porque aun no está cumplida la maldad del Amorrheo hasta aquí.

and the fourth generation doth turn back hither, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete.'

17 Y sucedió que puesto el sol, y ya obscurecido, dejóse ver un horno humeando, y una antorcha de fuego que pasó por entre los animales divididos.

And it cometh to pass -- the sun hath gone in, and thick darkness hath been -- and lo, a furnace of smoke, and a lamp of fire, which hath passed over between those pieces.

18 E n aquel día hizo Jehová un pacto con Abram diciendo: A tu simiente daré esta tierra desde el río de Egipto hasta el río grande, el río Eufrates;

In that day hath Jehovah made with Abram a covenant, saying, `To thy seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Phrat,

19 L os Cineos, y los Ceneceos, y los Cedmoneos,

with the Kenite, and the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite,

20 Y los Hetheos, y los Pherezeos, y los Raphaitas,

and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim,

21 Y los Amorrheos, y los Cananeos, y los Gergeseos, y los Jebuseos.

and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.'
