1 Y ENVIO Jehová á Nathán á David, el cual viniendo á él, díjole: Había dos hombres en una ciudad, el uno rico, y el otro pobre.

And Jehovah sendeth Nathan unto David, and he cometh unto him, and saith to him: `Two men have been in one city; One rich and one poor;

2 E l rico tenía numerosas ovejas y vacas:

The rich hath flocks and herds very many;

3 M as el pobre no tenía más que una sola cordera, que él había comprado y criado, y que había crecido con él y con sus hijos juntamente, comiendo de su bocado, y bebiendo de su vaso, y durmiendo en su seno: y teníala como á una hija.

And the poor one hath nothing, Except one little ewe-lamb, Which he hath bought, and keepeth alive, And it groweth up with him, And with his sons together; Of his morsel it eateth, And from his cup it drinketh, And in his bosom it lieth, And it is to him as a daughter;

4 Y vino uno de camino al hombre rico; y él no quiso tomar de sus ovejas y de sus vacas, para guisar al caminante que le había venido, sino que tomó la oveja de aquel hombre pobre, y aderezóla para aquél que le había venido.

And there cometh a traveller to the rich man, And he spareth to take Of his own flock, and of his own herd, To prepare for the traveller Who hath come to him, And he taketh the ewe-lamb of the poor man, And prepareth it for the man Who hath come unto him.'

5 E ntonces se encendió el furor de David en gran manera contra aquel hombre, y dijo á Nathán: Vive Jehová, que el que tal hizo es digno de muerte.

And the anger of David burneth against the man exceedingly, and he saith unto Nathan, `Jehovah liveth, surely a son of death the man who is doing this,

6 Y que él debe pagar la cordera con cuatro tantos, porque hizo esta tal cosa, y no tuvo misericordia.

and the ewe-lamb he doth repay fourfold, because that he hath done this thing, and because that he had no pity.'

7 E ntonces dijo Nathán á David: Tú eres aquel hombre. Así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel: Yo te ungí por rey sobre Israel, y te libré de la mano de Saúl;

And Nathan saith unto David, `Thou the man! Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, I anointed thee for king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

8 Y o te dí la casa de tu señor, y las mujeres de tu señor en tu seno: demás de esto te dí la casa de Israel y de Judá; y si esto es poco, yo te añadiré tales y tales cosas.

and I give to thee the house of thy lord, and the wives of thy lord, into thy bosom, and I give to thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if little, then I add to thee such and such.

9 ¿ Por qué pues tuviste en poco la palabra de Jehová, haciendo lo malo delante de sus ojos? A Uría Hetheo heriste á cuchillo, y tomaste por tu mujer á su mujer, y á él mataste con el cuchillo de los hijos de Ammón.

`Wherefore hast thou despised the word of Jehovah, to do the evil thing in His eyes? Uriah the Hittite thou hast smitten by the sword, and his wife thou hast taken to thee for a wife, and him thou hast slain by the sword of the Bene-Ammon.

10 P or lo cual ahora no se apartará jamás de tu casa la espada; por cuanto me menospreciaste, y tomaste la mujer de Uría Hetheo para que fuese tu mujer.

`And now, the sword doth not turn aside from thy house unto the age, because thou hast despised Me, and dost take the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be to thee for a wife;

11 A sí ha dicho Jehová: He aquí yo levantaré sobre ti el mal de tu misma casa, y tomaré tus mujeres delante de tus ojos, y las daré á tu prójimo, el cual yacerá con tus mujeres á la vista de este sol.

thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am raising up against thee evil, out of thy house, and have taken thy wives before thine eyes, and given to thy neighbour, and he hath lain with thy wives before the eyes of this sun;

12 P orque tú lo hiciste en secreto; mas yo haré esto delante de todo Israel, y delante del sol.

for thou hast done in secret, and I do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.'

13 E ntonces dijo David á Nathán: Pequé contra Jehová. Y Nathán dijo á David: También Jehová ha remitido tu pecado: no morirás.

And David saith unto Nathan, `I have sinned against Jehovah.' And Nathan saith unto David, `Also -- Jehovah hath caused thy sin to pass away; thou dost not die;

14 M as por cuanto con este negocio hiciste blasfemar á los enemigos de Jehová, el hijo que te ha nacido morirá ciertamente.

only, because thou hast caused the enemies of Jehovah greatly to despise by this thing, also the son who is born to thee doth surely die.'

15 Y Nathán se volvió á su casa. Y Jehová hirió al niño que la mujer de Uría había parido á David, y enfermó gravemente.

And Nathan goeth unto his house, and Jehovah smiteth the lad, whom the wife of Uriah hath born to David, and it is incurable;

16 E ntonces rogó David á Dios por el niño; y ayunó David, recogióse, y pasó la noche acostado en tierra.

and David seeketh God for the youth, and David keepeth a fast, and hath gone in and lodged, and lain on the earth.

17 Y levantándose los ancianos de su casa fueron á él para hacerlo levantar de tierra; mas él no quiso, ni comió con ellos pan.

And the elders of his house rise against him, to raise him up from the earth, and he hath not been willing, nor hath he eaten with them bread;

18 Y al séptimo día murió el niño; pero sus siervos no osaban hacerle saber que el niño era muerto, diciendo entre sí: Cuando el niño aun vivía, le hablábamos, y no quería oir nuestra voz: ¿pues cuánto más mal le hará, si le dijéremos que el niño es muerto?

and it cometh to pass on the seventh day, that the lad dieth, and the servants of David fear to declare to him that the lad is dead, for they said, `Lo, in the lad being alive we spake unto him, and he did not hearken to our voice; and how do we say unto him, The lad is dead? -- then he hath done evil.'

19 M as David viendo á sus siervos hablar entre sí, entendió que el niño era muerto; por lo que dijo David á sus siervos: ¿Es muerto el niño? Y ellos respondieron: Muerto es.

And David seeth that his servants are whispering, and David understandeth that the lad is dead, and David saith unto his servants, `Is the lad dead?' and they say, `Dead.'

20 E ntonces David se levantó de tierra, y lavóse y ungióse, y mudó sus ropas, y entró á la casa de Jehová, y adoró. Y después vino á su casa, y demandó, y pusiéronle pan, y comió.

And David riseth from the earth, and doth bathe and anoint, and changeth his raiment, and cometh in to the house of Jehovah, and boweth himself, and cometh unto his house, and asketh and they place for him bread, and he eateth.

21 Y dijéronle sus siervos: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho? Por el niño, viviendo aún, ayunabas y llorabas; y él muerto, levantástete y comiste pan.

And his servants say unto him, `What this thing thou hast done? because of the living lad thou hast fasted and dost weep, and when the lad is dead thou hast risen and dost eat bread.'

22 Y él respondió: Viviendo aún el niño, yo ayunaba y lloraba, diciendo: ¿Quién sabe si Dios tendrá compasión de mí, por manera que viva el niño?

And he saith, `While the lad is alive I have fasted, and weep, for I said, Who knoweth? -- Jehovah doth pity me, and the lad hath lived;

23 M as ahora que ya es muerto, ¿para qué tengo de ayunar? ¿podré yo hacerle volver? Yo voy á él, mas él no volverá á mí.

and now, he hath died, why this -- I fast? am I able to bring him back again? I am going unto him, and he doth not turn back unto me.'

24 Y consoló David á Bath-sheba su mujer, y entrando á ella, durmió con ella; y parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Salomón, al cual amó Jehová:

And David comforteth Bath-Sheba his wife, and goeth in unto her, and lieth with her, and she beareth a son, and he calleth his name Solomon; and Jehovah hath loved him,

25 Q ue envió por mano de Nathán profeta, y llamó su nombre Jedidiah, á causa de Jehová.

and sendeth by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and calleth his name Jedidiah, because of Jehovah.

26 Y Joab peleaba contra Rabba de los hijos de Ammón, y tomó la ciudad real.

And Joab fighteth against Rabbah of the Bene-Ammon, and captureth the royal city,

27 E ntonces envió Joab mensajeros á David, diciendo: Yo he peleado contra Rabba, y he tomado la ciudad de las aguas.

and Joab sendeth messengers unto David, and saith, `I have fought against Rabbah -- also I have captured the city of waters;

28 J unta pues ahora el pueblo que queda, y asienta campo contra la ciudad, y tómala; porque tomando yo la ciudad, no se llame de mi nombre.

and now, gather the rest of the people, and encamp against the city, and capture it, lest I capture the city, and my name hath been called upon it.'

29 Y juntando David todo el pueblo fué contra Rabba, y combatióla, y tomóla.

And David gathereth all the people, and goeth to Rabbah, and fighteth against it, and captureth it;

30 Y tomó la corona de su rey de su cabeza, la cual pesaba un talento de oro, y tenía piedras preciosas; y fué puesta sobre la cabeza de David. Y trajo muy grande despojo de la ciudad.

and he taketh the crown of their king from off his head, and its weight a talent of gold, and precious stones, and it is on the head of David; and the spoil of the city he hath brought out, very much;

31 S acó además el pueblo que estaba en ella, y púsolo debajo de sierras, y de trillos de hierro, y de hachas de hierro; é hízolos pasar por hornos de ladrillos: y lo mismo hizo á todas las ciudades de los hijos de Ammón. Volvióse luego David con todo el pueblo á Jerusalem.

and the people who in it he hath brought out, and setteth to the saw, and to cutting instruments of iron, and to axes of iron, and hath caused them to pass over into the brick-kiln; and so he doth to all the cities of the Bene-Ammon; and David turneth back, and all the people, to Jerusalem.
