1 E NTONCES llamando á sus doce discípulos, les dió potestad contra los espíritus inmundos, para que los echasen fuera, y sanasen toda enfermedad y toda dolencia.

And having called to him his twelve disciples, he gave to them power over unclean spirits, so as to be casting them out, and to be healing every sickness, and every malady.

2 Y los nombres de los doce apóstoles son estos: el primero, Simón, que es dicho Pedro, y Andrés su hermano; Jacobo, hijo de Zebedeo, y Juan su hermano;

And of the twelve apostles the names are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James of Zebedee, and John his brother;

3 F elipe, y Bartolomé; Tomás, y Mateo el publicano; Jacobo hijo de Alfeo, y Lebeo, por sobrenombre Tadeo;

Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the tax-gatherer; James of Alpheus, and Lebbeus who was surnamed Thaddeus;

4 S imón el Cananita y Judas Iscariote, que también le entregó.

Simon the Cananite, and Judas Iscariot, who did also deliver him up.

5 á estos doce envió Jesús, á los cuales dió mandamiento, diciendo: Por el camino de los Gentiles no iréis, y en ciudad de Samaritanos no entréis;

These twelve did Jesus send forth, having given command to them, saying, `To the way of the nations go not away, and into a city of the Samaritans go not in,

6 M as id antes á las ovejas perdidas de la casa de Israel.

and be going rather unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

7 Y yendo, predicad, diciendo: El reino de los cielos se ha acercado.

`And, going on, proclaim saying that, the reign of the heavens hath come nigh;

8 S anad enfermos, limpiad leprosos, resucitad muertos, echad fuera demonios: de gracia recibisteis, dad de gracia.

infirm ones be healing, lepers be cleansing, dead be raising, demons be casting out -- freely ye did receive, freely give.

9 N o aprestéis oro, ni plata, ni cobre en vuestras bolsas;

`Provide not gold, nor silver, nor brass in your girdles,

10 N i alforja para el camino, ni dos ropas de vestir, ni zapatos, ni bordón; porque el obrero digno es de su alimento.

nor scrip for the way, nor two coats, nor sandals, nor staff -- for the workman is worthy of his nourishment.

11 M as en cualquier ciudad, ó aldea donde entrareis, investigad quién sea en ella digno, y reposad allí hasta que salgáis.

`And into whatever city or village ye may enter, inquire ye who in it is worthy, and there abide, till ye may go forth.

12 Y entrando en la casa, saludadla.

And coming to the house salute it,

13 Y si la casa fuere digna, vuestra paz vendrá sobre ella; mas si no fuere digna, vuestra paz se volverá á vosotros.

and if indeed the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it; and if it be not worthy, let your peace turn back to you.

14 Y cualquiera que no os recibiere, ni oyere vuestras palabras, salid de aquella casa ó ciudad, y sacudid el polvo de vuestros pies.

`And whoever may not receive you nor hear your words, coming forth from that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet,

15 D e cierto os digo, que el castigo será más tolerable á la tierra de los de Sodoma y de los de Gomorra en el día del juicio, que á aquella ciudad.

verily I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.

16 H e aquí, yo os envío como á ovejas en medio de lobos: sed pues prudentes como serpientes, y sencillos como palomas.

`Lo, I do send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves, be ye therefore wise as the serpents, and simple as the doves.

17 Y guardaos de los hombres: porque os entregarán en concilios, y en sus sinagogas os azotarán;

And, take ye heed of men, for they will give you up to sanhedrims, and in their synagogues they will scourge you,

18 Y aun á príncipes y á reyes seréis llevados por causa de mí, por testimonio á ellos y á los Gentiles.

and before governors and kings ye shall be brought for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations.

19 M as cuando os entregaren, no os apuréis por cómo ó qué hablaréis; porque en aquella hora os será dado qué habéis de hablar.

`And whenever they may deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye may speak, for it shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak;

20 P orque no sois vosotros los que habláis, sino el Espíritu de vuestro Padre que habla en vosotros.

for ye are not the speakers, but the Spirit of your Father that is speaking in you.

21 Y el hermano entregará al hermano á la muerte, y el padre al hijo; y los hijos se levantarán contra los padres, y los harán morir.

`And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and father child, and children shall rise up against parents, and shall put them to death,

22 Y seréis aborrecidos de todos por mi nombre; mas el que soportare hasta el fin, éste será salvo.

and ye shall be hated by all because of my name, but he who hath endured to the end, he shall be saved.

23 M as cuando os persiguieren en esta ciudad, huid á la otra: porque de cierto os digo, que no acabaréis de andar todas las ciudades de Israel, que no venga el Hijo del hombre.

`And whenever they may persecute you in this city, flee to the other, for verily I say to you, ye may not have completed the cities of Israel till the Son of Man may come.

24 E l discípulo no es más que su maestro, ni el siervo más que su señor.

`A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his lord;

25 B ástale al discípulo ser como su maestro, y al siervo como su señor. Si al padre de la familia llamaron Beelzebub, ¿cuánto más á los de su casa?

sufficient to the disciple that he may be as his teacher, and the servant as his lord; if the master of the house they did call Beelzeboul, how much more those of his household?

26 A sí que, no los temáis; porque nada hay encubierto, que no haya de ser manifestado; ni oculto, que no haya de saberse.

`Ye may not, therefore, fear them, for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed, and hid, that shall not be known;

27 L o que os digo en tinieblas, decidlo en la luz; y lo que oís al oído predicadlo desde los terrados.

that which I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light, and that which you hear at the ear, proclaim on the house-tops.

28 Y no temáis á los que matan el cuerpo, mas al alma no pueden matar: temed antes á aquel que puede destruir el alma y el cuerpo en el infierno.

`And be not afraid of those killing the body, and are not able to kill the soul, but fear rather Him who is able both soul and body to destroy in gehenna.

29 ¿ No se venden dos pajarillos por un cuarto? Con todo, ni uno de ellos cae á tierra sin vuestro Padre.

`Are not two sparrows sold for an assar? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father;

30 P ues aun vuestros cabellos están todos contados.

and of you -- even the hairs of the head are all numbered;

31 A sí que, no temáis: más valéis vosotros que muchos pajarillos.

be not therefore afraid, than many sparrows ye are better.

32 C ualquiera pues que me confesare delante de los hombres, le confesaré yo también delante de mi Padre que está en los cielos.

`Every one, therefore, who shall confess in me before men, I also will confess in him before my Father who is in the heavens;

33 Y cualquiera que me negare delante de los hombres, le negaré yo también delante de mi Padre que está en los cielos.

and whoever shall deny me before men, I also will deny him before my Father who is in the heavens.

34 N o penséis que he venido para meter paz en la tierra: no he venido para meter paz, sino espada.

`Ye may not suppose that I came to put peace on the earth; I did not come to put peace, but a sword;

35 P orque he venido para hacer disensión del hombre contra su padre, y de la hija contra su madre, y de la nuera contra su suegra.

for I came to set a man at variance against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law,

36 Y los enemigos del hombre serán los de su casa.

and the enemies of a man are those of his household.

37 E l que ama padre ó madre más que á mí, no es digno de mí; y el que ama hijo ó hija más que á mí, no es digno de mí.

`He who is loving father or mother above me, is not worthy of me, and he who is loving son or daughter above me, is not worthy of me,

38 Y el que no toma su cruz, y sigue en pos de mí, no es digno de mí.

and whoever doth not receive his cross and follow after me, is not worthy of me.

39 E l que hallare su vida, la perderá; y el que perdiere su vida por causa de mí, la hallará.

`He who found his life shall lose it, and he who lost his life for my sake shall find it.

40 E l que os recibe á vosotros, á mí recibe; y el que á mí recibe, recibe al que me envió.

`He who is receiving you doth receive me, and he who is receiving me doth receive Him who sent me,

41 E l que recibe profeta en nombre de profeta, merced de profeta recibirá; y el que recibe justo en nombre de justo, merced de justo recibirá.

he who is receiving a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophet's reward, and he who is receiving a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, shall receive a righteous man's reward,

42 Y cualquiera que diere á uno de estos pequeñitos un vaso de agua fría solamente, en nombre de discípulo, de cierto os digo, que no perderá su recompensa.

and whoever may give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say to you, he may not lose his reward.'
