1 H ermanos míos, no tengan su fe en nuestro glorioso Señor Jesucristo con una actitud de favoritismo.

My brethren, hold not, in respect of persons, the faith of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ,

2 P orque si en su congregación entra un hombre con anillo de oro y vestido de ropa lujosa, y también entra un pobre con ropa sucia (andrajosa),

for if there may come into your synagogue a man with gold ring, in gay raiment, and there may come in also a poor man in vile raiment,

3 y dan atención especial (y miran) al que lleva la ropa lujosa, y dicen: “Siéntese aquí, en un buen lugar;” y al pobre dicen: “Tú estate allí de pie, o siéntate junto a mi estrado;”

and ye may look upon him bearing the gay raiment, and may say to him, `Thou -- sit thou here well,' and to the poor man may say, `Thou -- stand thou there, or, Sit thou here under my footstool,' --

4 ¿ acaso no han hecho distinciones entre ustedes mismos, y han venido a ser jueces con malos pensamientos ?

ye did not judge fully in yourselves, and did become ill-reasoning judges.

5 H ermanos míos amados, escuchen: ¿No escogió Dios a los pobres de este mundo para ser ricos en fe y herederos del reino que El prometió a los que Lo aman?

Hearken, my brethren beloved, did not God choose the poor of this world, rich in faith, and heirs of the reign that He promised to those loving Him?

6 P ero ustedes han despreciado al pobre. ¿No son los ricos los que los oprimen y personalmente los arrastran a los tribunales ?

and ye did dishonour the poor one; do not the rich oppress you and themselves draw you to judgment-seats;

7 ¿ No blasfeman ellos el buen nombre por el cual ustedes han sido llamados ?

do they not themselves speak evil of the good name that was called upon you?

8 S i en verdad ustedes cumplen la ley real (del Reino) conforme a la Escritura: “ Amaras a tu projimo como a ti mismo,” bien hacen.

If, indeed, royal law ye complete, according to the Writing, `Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself,' -- ye do well;

9 P ero si muestran favoritismo, cometen pecado y son hallados culpables por la ley como transgresores.

and if ye accept persons, sin ye do work, being convicted by the law as transgressors;

10 P orque cualquiera que guarda toda la ley, pero falla en un punto, se ha hecho culpable de todos.

for whoever the whole law shall keep, and shall stumble in one, he hath become guilty of all;

11 P ues el que dijo: “ No cometas adulterio,” también dijo: “ No mates.” Ahora bien, si tú no cometes adulterio, pero matas, te has convertido en transgresor de la ley.

for He who is saying, `Thou mayest not commit adultery,' said also, `Thou mayest do no murder;' and if thou shalt not commit adultery, and shalt commit murder, thou hast become a transgressor of law;

12 A sí hablen ustedes y así procedan, como los que han de ser juzgados por la ley de la libertad.

so speak ye and so do, as about by a law of liberty to be judged,

13 P orque el juicio será sin misericordia para el que no ha mostrado misericordia. La misericordia triunfa sobre el juicio. La Fe y las Obras

for the judgment without kindness to him not having done kindness, and exult doth kindness over judgment.

14 ¿ De qué sirve, hermanos míos, si alguien dice que tiene fe, pero no tiene obras? ¿Acaso puede esa fe salvarlo?

What the profit, my brethren, if faith, any one may speak of having, and works he may not have? is that faith able to save him?

15 S i un hermano o una hermana no tienen ropa y carecen del sustento diario,

and if a brother or sister may be naked, and may be destitute of the daily food,

16 y uno de ustedes les dice: “Vayan en paz, caliéntense y sáciense,” pero no les dan lo necesario para su cuerpo, ¿de qué sirve ?

and any one of you may say to them, `Depart ye in peace, be warmed, and be filled,' and may not give to them the things needful for the body, what the profit?

17 A sí también la fe por sí misma, si no tiene obras, está muerta.

so also the faith, if it may not have works, is dead by itself.

18 P ero alguien dirá: “Tú tienes fe y yo tengo obras. Muéstrame tu fe sin las obras, y yo te mostraré mi fe por mis obras.”

But say may some one, Thou hast faith, and I have works, shew me thy faith out of thy works, and I will shew thee out of my works my faith:

19 T ú crees que Dios es uno (que hay un solo Dios). Haces bien; también los demonios creen, y tiemblan.

thou -- thou dost believe that God is one; thou dost well, and the demons believe, and they shudder!

20 P ero, ¿estás dispuesto a admitir (¿quieres saber), oh hombre vano (necio), que la fe sin obras es estéril ?

And dost thou wish to know, O vain man, that the faith apart from the works is dead?

21 ¿ No fue justificado por las obras Abraham nuestro padre cuando ofreció a su hijo Isaac sobre el altar?

Abraham our father -- was not he declared righteous out of works, having brought up Isaac his son upon the altar?

22 Y a ves que la fe actuaba juntamente con sus obras, y como resultado de las obras, la fe fue perfeccionada;

dost thou see that the faith was working with his works, and out of the works the faith was perfected?

23 y se cumplió la Escritura que dice: “Y Abraham creyo a Dios y le fue contado por justicia,” y fue llamado amigo de Dios.

and fulfilled was the Writing that is saying, `And Abraham did believe God, and it was reckoned to him -- to righteousness;' and, `Friend of God' he was called.

24 U stedes ven que el hombre es justificado por las obras y no sólo por la fe.

Ye see, then, that out of works is man declared righteous, and not out of faith only;

25 Y de la misma manera, ¿no fue la ramera Rahab también justificada por las obras cuando recibió a los mensajeros y los envió por otro camino ?

and in like manner also Rahab the harlot -- was she not out of works declared righteous, having received the messengers, and by another way having sent forth?

26 P orque así como el cuerpo sin el espíritu está muerto, así también la fe sin las obras está muerta.

for as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also the faith apart from the works is dead.
