1 L os hombres de Efraín se reunieron y cruzaron el Jordán hacia el norte (hacia Zafón), y dijeron a Jefté: “¿Por qué cruzaste a pelear contra los Amonitas sin llamarnos para que fuéramos contigo ? Quemaremos tu casa sobre ti.”

And the men of Ephraim are called together, and pass over northward, and say to Jephthah, `Wherefore has thou passed over to fight against the Bene-Ammon, and on us hast not called to go with thee? thy house we burn over thee with fire.'

2 Y Jefté les respondió: “Yo y mi pueblo estábamos en gran lucha con los Amonitas, y cuando los llamé a ustedes, no me libraron de sus manos.

And Jephthah saith unto them, `A man of great strife I have been (I and my people) with the Bene-Ammon, and I call you, and ye have not saved me out of their hand,

3 V iendo, pues, que no me iban a librar, arriesgué mi vida y crucé contra los Amonitas, y el Señor los entregó en mi mano. ¿Por qué, pues, han subido hoy a pelear contra mí?”

and I see that thou art not a saviour, and I put my life in my hand, and pass over unto the Bene-Ammon, and Jehovah giveth them into my hand -- and why have ye come up unto me this day to fight against me?'

4 E ntonces Jefté reunió a todos los hombres de Galaad y peleó contra Efraín. Los hombres de Galaad derrotaron a Efraín, porque éstos decían: “Son fugitivos de Efraín, ustedes los Galaaditas, en medio de Efraín y en medio de Manasés.”

And Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead, and fighteth with Ephraim, and the men of Gilead smite Ephraim, because they said, `Fugitives of Ephraim ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim -- in the midst of Manasseh.'

5 Y se apoderaron los Galaaditas de los vados del Jordán al lado opuesto de Efraín. Cuando alguno de los fugitivos de Efraín decía: “Déjenme cruzar,” los hombres de Galaad le decían: “¿Eres Efrateo?” Si él respondía: “No,”

And Gilead captureth the passages of the Jordan to Ephraim, and it hath been, when the fugitives of Ephraim say, `Let me pass over,' and the men of Gilead say to him, `An Ephramite thou?' and he saith, `No;'

6 e ntonces, le decían: “Di, pues, la palabra Shibolet.” Pero él decía: “Sibolet,” porque no podía pronunciarla correctamente. Entonces le echaban mano y lo mataban junto a los vados del Jordán. Y cayeron en aquella ocasión 42, 000 de los de Efraín.

that they say to him, `Say, I pray thee, Shibboleth;' and he saith, `Sibboleth,' and is not prepared to speak right -- and they seize him, and slaughter him at the passages of the Jordan, and there fall at that time, of Ephraim, forty and two chiefs.

7 J efté juzgó a Israel seis años. Y murió Jefté el Galaadita, y fue sepultado en una de las ciudades de Galaad. Ibzán, Elón y Abdón, Jueces de Israel

And Jephthah judged Israel six years, and Jephthah the Gileadite dieth, and is buried in the cities of Gilead.

8 D espués de Jefté juzgó a Israel Ibzán de Belén (Casa del Pan).

And after him Ibzan of Beth-Lehem judgeth Israel,

9 Y tuvo treinta hijos y treinta hijas, a éstas las casó fuera de la familia, y trajo de afuera treinta hijas para sus hijos. El juzgó a Israel siete años.

and he hath thirty sons and thirty daughters, he hath sent without and thirty daughters hath brought in to his sons from without; and he judgeth Israel seven years.

10 M urió Ibzán, y fue sepultado en Belén.

And Ibzan dieth, and is buried in Beth-Lehem.

11 D espués de Ibzán, juzgó a Israel Elón el Zabulonita; quien juzgó a Israel diez años.

And after him Elon the Zebulunite judgeth Israel, and he judgeth Israel ten years,

12 M urió Elón el Zabulonita, y fue sepultado en Ajalón, en la tierra de Zabulón.

and Elon the Zebulunite dieth, and is buried in Aijalon, in the land of Zebulun.

13 E ntonces Abdón, hijo de Hilel el Piratonita, juzgó a Israel después de Elón.

And after him, Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, judgeth Israel,

14 T uvo cuarenta hijos y treinta nietos que cabalgaban en setenta asnos. El juzgó a Israel ocho años.

and he hath forty sons, and thirty grandsons, riding on seventy ass-colts, and he judgeth Israel eight years.

15 Y murió Abdón, hijo de Hilel el Piratonita, y fue sepultado en Piratón, en la tierra de Efraín, en la región montañosa de los Amalecitas.

And Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, dieth, and is buried in Pirathon, in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekite.
