1 C uando José fue llevado a Egipto, Potifar, un oficial Egipcio de Faraón, capitán de la guardia, lo compró a los Ismaelitas que lo habían llevado allá.

And Joseph hath been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, a eunuch of Pharaoh, head of the executioners, an Egyptian man, buyeth him out of the hands of the Ishmaelites who have brought him thither.

2 P ero el Señor estaba con José, que llegó a ser un hombre próspero, y vivía en la casa de su amo el Egipcio.

And Jehovah is with Joseph, and he is a prosperous man, and he is in the house of his lord the Egyptian,

3 V io su amo que el Señor estaba con él y que el Señor hacía prosperar en su mano todo lo que él hacía.

and his lord seeth that Jehovah is with him, and all that he is doing Jehovah is causing to prosper in his hand,

4 A sí José halló gracia ante sus ojos y llegó a ser su siervo personal, lo hizo mayordomo sobre su casa y entregó en su mano todo lo que poseía.

and Joseph findeth grace in his eyes and serveth him, and he appointeth him over his house, and all that he hath he hath given into his hand.

5 Y sucedió que desde el tiempo que lo hizo mayordomo sobre su casa y sobre todo lo que poseía, el Señor bendijo la casa del Egipcio por causa de José. La bendición del Señor estaba sobre todo lo que poseía en la casa y en el campo.

And it cometh to pass from the time that he hath appointed him over his house, and over all that he hath, that Jehovah blesseth the house of the Egyptian for Joseph's sake, and the blessing of Jehovah is on all that he hath, in the house, and in the field;

6 A sí que todo lo que poseía lo dejó en mano de José, y con él allí no se preocupaba de nada, excepto del pan que comía. Y era José de gallarda figura y de hermoso parecer. José y la Mujer de Potifar

and he leaveth all that he hath in the hand of Joseph, and he hath not known anything that he hath, except the bread which he is eating. And Joseph is of a fair form, and of a fair appearance.

7 S ucedió después de estas cosas que la mujer de su amo miró a José con deseo y le dijo: “Acuéstate conmigo.”

And it cometh to pass after these things, that his lord's wife lifteth up her eyes unto Joseph, and saith, `Lie with me;'

8 P ero él rehusó y dijo a la mujer de su amo: “Estando yo aquí, mi amo no se preocupa de nada en la casa, y ha puesto en mi mano todo lo que posee.

and he refuseth, and saith unto his lord's wife, `Lo, my lord hath not known what with me in the house, and all that he hath he hath given into my hand;

9 N o hay nadie más grande que yo en esta casa, y nada me ha rehusado excepto a usted, pues es su mujer. ¿Cómo entonces podría yo hacer esta gran maldad y pecar contra Dios ?”

none is greater in this house than I, and he hath not withheld from me anything, except thee, because thou his wife; and how shall I do this great evil? -- then have I sinned against God.'

10 Y ella insistía a José día tras día, pero él no accedió a acostarse con ella o a estar con ella.

And it cometh to pass at her speaking unto Joseph day day, that he hath not hearkened unto her, to lie near her, to be with her;

11 P ero un día que él entró en casa para hacer su trabajo, y no había ninguno de los hombres de la casa allí dentro,

and it cometh to pass about this day, that he goeth into the house to do his work, and there is none of the men of the house there in the house,

12 e ntonces ella tomó a José de la ropa, y le dijo: “¡Acuéstate conmigo!” Pero él le dejó su ropa en la mano, y salió huyendo afuera.

and she catcheth him by his garment, saying, `Lie with me;' and he leaveth his garment in her hand, and fleeth, and goeth without.

13 C uando ella vio que él había dejado su ropa en sus manos y había huido afuera,

And it cometh to pass when she seeth that he hath left his garment in her hand, and fleeth without,

14 l lamó a los hombres de su casa y les dijo: “Miren, Potifar nos ha traído un Hebreo para que se burle de nosotros; vino a mí para acostarse conmigo, pero yo grité a gran voz.

that she calleth for the men of her house, and speaketh to them, saying, `See, he hath brought in to us a man, a Hebrew, to play with us; he hath come in unto me, to lie with me, and I call with a loud voice,

15 C uando él oyó que yo alzaba la voz y gritaba, dejó su ropa junto a mí y salió huyendo afuera.”

and it cometh to pass, when he heareth that I have lifted up my voice and call, that he leaveth his garment near me, and fleeth, and goeth without.'

16 E lla dejó junto a sí la ropa de José hasta que su señor vino a casa.

And she placeth his garment near her, until the coming in of his lord unto his house.

17 E ntonces ella le habló con estas palabras: “Vino a mí el esclavo Hebreo que nos trajiste, para burlarse de mí.

And she speaketh unto him according to these words, saying, `The Hebrew servant whom thou hast brought unto us, hath come in unto me to play with me;

18 Y cuando levanté la voz y grité, él dejó su ropa junto a mí y huyó afuera.” José Echado en la Cárcel

and it cometh to pass, when I lift my voice and call, that he leaveth his garment near me, and fleeth without.'

19 C uando su señor escuchó las palabras que su mujer le dijo: “Esto es lo que tu esclavo me hizo,” se encendió su ira.

And it cometh to pass when his lord heareth the words of his wife, which she hath spoken unto him, saying, `According to these things hath thy servant done to me,' that his anger burneth;

20 E ntonces el amo de José lo tomó y lo echó en la cárcel, en el lugar donde se encerraba a los presos del rey. Allí permaneció en la cárcel.

and Joseph's lord taketh him, and putteth him unto the round-house, a place where the king's prisoners bound; and he is there in the round-house.

21 P ero el Señor estaba con José, le extendió su misericordia y le concedió gracia ante los ojos del jefe de la cárcel.

And Jehovah is with Joseph, and stretcheth out kindness unto him, and putteth his grace in the eyes of the chief of the round-house;

22 E l jefe de la cárcel confió en mano de José a todos los presos que estaban en la cárcel, y de todo lo que allí se hacía él era responsable.

and the chief of the round-house giveth into the hand of Joseph all the prisoners who in the round-house, and of all that they are doing there, he hath been doer;

23 E l jefe de la cárcel no supervisaba nada que estuviera bajo la responsabilidad de José, porque el Señor estaba con él, y todo lo que él emprendía, el Señor lo hacía prosperar.

the chief of the round-house seeth not anything under his hand, because Jehovah with him, and that which he is doing Jehovah is causing to prosper.
