1 E ntonces David se dijo: “Ahora bien, voy a perecer algún día por la mano de Saúl. Lo mejor para mí es huir a la tierra de los Filisteos. Saúl se cansará, y no me buscará más en todo el territorio de Israel, y escaparé de su mano.”

And David saith unto his heart, `Now am I consumed one day by the hand of Saul; there is nothing for me better than that I diligently escape unto the land of the Philistines, and Saul hath been despairing of me -- of seeking me any more in all the border of Israel, and I have escaped out of his hand.'

2 S e levantó, pues, David y se pasó con los 600 hombres que estaban con él a Aquis, hijo de Maoc, rey de Gat.

And David riseth, and passeth over, he and six hundred men who with him, unto Achish son of Maoch king of Gath;

3 D avid moró con Aquis en Gat, él y sus hombres, cada cual con los de su casa; David con sus dos mujeres Ahinoam la Jezreelita, y Abigail la de Carmel, viuda de Nabal.

and David dwelleth with Achish in Gath, he and his men, each one with his household, David and his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelitess.

4 Y le dieron la noticia a Saúl que David había huido a Gat, y no lo buscó más.

And it is declared to Saul that David hath fled to Gath, and he hath not added any more to seek him.

5 E ntonces David dijo a Aquis: “Si he hallado ahora gracia ante sus ojos, que me dé un lugar en una de las aldeas en el campo para que habite allí; pues, ¿por qué ha de morar su siervo con usted en la ciudad real?”

And David saith unto Achish, `If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes, they give to me a place in one of the cities of the field, and I dwell there, yea, why doth thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?'

6 A quis le dio Siclag aquel día; por eso Siclag ha pertenecido a los reyes de Judá hasta hoy.

And Achish giveth to him in that day Ziklag, therefore hath Ziklag been to the kings of Judah till this day.

7 E l número de los días que David habitó en el territorio de los Filisteos fue un año y cuatro meses.

And the number of the days which David hath dwelt in the field of the Philistines days and four months;

8 D avid y sus hombres subieron e hicieron incursiones contra los Guesuritas, los Guerzitas y los Amalecitas; porque ellos eran los habitantes de la tierra desde tiempos antiguos, según se va a Shur, hasta la tierra de Egipto.

and David goeth up and his men, and they push unto the Geshurite, and the Gerizite, and the Amalekite, (for they are inhabitants of the land from of old), as thou comest in to Shur and unto the land of Egypt,

9 D avid atacaba el territorio, y no dejaba con vida hombre ni mujer, y se llevaba las ovejas, el ganado, los asnos, los camellos y la ropa. Entonces regresaba y venía a Aquis.

and David hath smitten the land, and doth not keep alive man and woman, and hath taken sheep, and oxen, and asses, and camels, and garments, and turneth back, and cometh in unto Achish.

10 Y Aquis decía: “¿Dónde atacaron hoy ?” Y David respondía: “Contra el Neguev (región del sur) de Judá, contra el Neguev de Jerameel y contra el Neguev de los Quenitas.”

And Achish saith, `Whither have ye pushed to-day?' and David saith, `Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelite, and unto the south of the Kenite.'

11 D avid no dejaba con vida hombre ni mujer para traer a Gat y dijo: “No sea que nos descubran, diciendo: ‘Así ha hecho David, y así ha sido su costumbre todo el tiempo que ha morado en el territorio de los Filisteos.’”

Neither man nor woman doth David keep alive, to bring in to Gath, saying, `Lest they declare against us, saying, Thus hath David done, and thus his custom all the days that he hath dwelt in the fields of the Philistines.'

12 A quis confiaba en David y se decía: “En verdad que se ha hecho odioso a su pueblo Israel y será mi servidor para siempre.”

And Achish believeth in David, saying, `He hath made himself utterly abhorred among his people, in Israel, and hath been to me for a servant age-during.'
