1 H abía en Cesarea un hombre llamado Cornelio, centurión de la cohorte (unidad militar Romana) llamada la Italiana,

And there was a certain man in Cesarea, by name Cornelius, a centurion from a band called Italian,

2 p iadoso y temeroso de Dios con toda su casa, que daba muchas limosnas al pueblo Judío y oraba a Dios continuamente.

pious, and fearing God with all his house, doing also many kind acts to the people, and beseeching God always,

3 C omo a la hora novena (3 p. m.), vio claramente en una visión a un ángel de Dios que entraba a donde él estaba y le decía: “Cornelio.”

he saw in a vision manifestly, as it were the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, `Cornelius;'

4 M irándolo fijamente y atemorizado, Cornelio dijo: “¿Qué quieres, Señor?” Y el ángel le dijo: “Tus oraciones y limosnas han ascendido como memorial delante de Dios.

and he having looked earnestly on him, and becoming afraid, said, `What is it, Lord?' And he said to him, `Thy prayers and thy kind acts came up for a memorial before God,

5 E nvía ahora algunos hombres a Jope, y manda traer a un hombre llamado Simón, que también se llama Pedro.

and now send men to Joppa, and send for a certain one Simon, who is surnamed Peter,

6 E ste se hospeda con un curtidor llamado Simón, cuya casa está junto al mar.”

this one doth lodge with a certain Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea; this one shall speak to thee what it behoveth thee to do.'

7 D espués que se había ido el ángel que le hablaba, Cornelio llamó a dos de los criados y a un soldado piadoso de los que constantemente le servían.

And when the messenger who is speaking to Cornelius went away, having called two of his domestics, and a pious soldier of those waiting on him continually,

8 D espués de explicarles todo, los envió a Jope. La Visión de Pedro

and having declared to them all things, he sent them to Joppa.

9 A l día siguiente, mientras ellos iban por el camino y se acercaban a la ciudad, Pedro subió a la azotea a orar como al mediodía.

And on the morrow, as these are proceeding on the way, and are drawing nigh to the city, Peter went up upon the house-top to pray, about the sixth hour,

10 T uvo hambre y deseaba comer; pero mientras le preparaban algo de comer, le sobrevino un éxtasis.

and he became very hungry, and wished to eat; and they making ready, there fell upon him a trance,

11 V io el cielo abierto y un objeto semejante a un gran lienzo que descendía, bajado a la tierra por las cuatro puntas.

and he doth behold the heaven opened, and descending unto him a certain vessel, as a great sheet, bound at the four corners, and let down upon the earth,

12 H abía en él toda clase de cuadrúpedos y reptiles de la tierra, y aves del cielo.

in which were all the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of the heaven,

13 Y oyó una voz: “Levántate, Pedro, mata y come.”

and there came a voice unto him: `Having risen, Peter, slay and eat.'

14 P ero Pedro dijo: “De ninguna manera, Señor, porque yo jamás he comido nada impuro o inmundo.”

And Peter said, `Not so, Lord; because at no time did I eat anything common or unclean;'

15 D e nuevo, por segunda vez, llegó a él una voz: “Lo que Dios ha limpiado, no lo llames tú impuro.”

and a voice again a second time unto him: `What God did cleanse, thou, declare not thou common;'

16 E sto sucedió tres veces, e inmediatamente el lienzo fue recogido al cielo. Los Mensajeros de Cornelio

and this was done thrice, and again was the vessel received up to the heaven.

17 M ientras Pedro estaba perplejo pensando en lo que significaría la visión que había visto, en ese momento los hombres que habían sido enviados por Cornelio, después de haber preguntado por la casa de Simón, se aparecieron a la puerta.

And as Peter was perplexed in himself what the vision that he saw might be, then, lo, the men who have been sent from Cornelius, having made inquiry for the house of Simon, stood at the gate,

18 Y llamando, preguntaron si allí se hospedaba Simón, el que también se llamaba Pedro.

and having called, they were asking if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, doth lodge here?

19 M ientras Pedro meditaba sobre la visión, el Espíritu le dijo: “Mira, tres hombres te buscan.

And Peter thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, `Lo, three men do seek thee;

20 L evántate, pues, desciende y no dudes en acompañarlos, porque Yo los he enviado.”

but having risen, go down and go on with them, nothing doubting, because I have sent them;'

21 P edro descendió a donde estaban los hombres, y les dijo: “Yo soy el que buscan; ¿cuál es la causa por la que han venido?”

and Peter having come down unto the men who have been sent from Cornelius unto him, said, `Lo, I am he whom ye seek, what the cause for which ye are present?'

22 Y ellos dijeron: “A Cornelio el centurión (un capitán Romano), un hombre justo y temeroso de Dios, y que es muy estimado por toda la nación de los Judíos, le fue ordenado (revelado) por un santo ángel que hiciera venir a usted a su casa para oír sus palabras.”

And they said, `Cornelius, a centurion, a man righteous and fearing God, well testified to, also, by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely warned by a holy messenger to send for thee, to his house, and to hear sayings from thee.'

23 E ntonces Pedro los invitó a entrar y los hospedó. Al día siguiente se levantó y fue con ellos, y algunos de los hermanos de Jope lo acompañaron. Pedro en Casa de Cornelio

Having called them in, therefore, he lodged them, and on the morrow Peter went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa went with him,

24 A l otro día entró en Cesarea. Cornelio los estaba esperando y había reunido a sus parientes y amigos íntimos.

and on the morrow they did enter into Cesarea; and Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kindred and near friends,

25 C uando Pedro iba a entrar, Cornelio salió a recibirlo, y postrándose a sus pies, lo adoró.

and as it came that Peter entered in, Cornelius having met him, having fallen at feet, did bow before;

26 P ero Pedro lo levantó, diciendo: “Ponte de pie; yo también soy hombre.”

and Peter raised him, saying, `Stand up; I also myself am a man;'

27 C onversando con él, entró y halló mucha gente reunida.

and talking with him he went in, and doth find many having come together.

28 E ntonces Pedro les dijo: “Ustedes saben que no es lícito para un Judío asociarse con un extranjero o visitarlo, pero Dios me ha mostrado que a ningún hombre debo llamar impuro o inmundo.

And he said unto them, `Ye know how it is unlawful for a man, a Jew, to keep company with, or to come unto, one of another race, but to me God did shew to call no man common or unclean;

29 P or eso, cuando mandaron a buscarme, vine sin poner ninguna objeción. Pregunto, pues, ¿por qué causa me han llamado?”

therefore also without gainsaying I came, having been sent for; I ask, therefore, for what matter ye did send for me?'

30 Y Cornelio respondió: “Hace cuatro días, a esta misma hora, estaba yo orando en mi casa a la hora novena (3 p. m.); y un hombre con vestiduras resplandecientes, se puso delante de mí,

And Cornelius said, `Four days ago till this hour, I was fasting, and the ninth hour praying in my house, and, lo, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

31 y dijo: ‘Cornelio, tu oración ha sido oída, y tus obras de caridad han sido recordadas delante de Dios.

and he said, Cornelius, thy prayer was heard, and thy kind acts were remembered before God;

32 E nvía unos hombres a Jope, y haz llamar a Simón, que también se llama Pedro; él está hospedado en casa de Simón el curtidor, junto al mar.’

send, therefore, to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter; this one doth lodge in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea, who having come, shall speak to thee;

33 P or tanto, al instante envié a buscarte, y has hecho bien en venir. Ahora, pues, todos nosotros estamos aquí presentes delante de Dios, para oír todo lo que el Señor te ha mandado.”

at once, therefore, I sent to thee; thou also didst do well, having come; now, therefore, are we all before God present to hear all things that have been commanded thee by God.'

34 E ntonces Pedro tomó la palabra, y dijo: “Ciertamente ahora entiendo que Dios no hace acepción de personas,

And Peter having opened his mouth, said, `Of a truth, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons,

35 s ino que en toda nación el que Le teme (Le reverencia) y hace lo justo, Le es acepto (Dios se agrada de él).

but in every nation he who is fearing Him, and is working righteousness, is acceptable to Him;

36 E l mensaje (La palabra) que El envió al pueblo de Israel, predicando (anunciando el evangelio) de paz por medio de Jesucristo, que El es Señor de todos.

the word that he sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming good news -- peace through Jesus Christ (this one is Lord of all,)

37 “ Ustedes saben lo que ocurrió en toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea, después del bautismo que Juan predicó,

ye -- ye have known; -- the word that came throughout all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the baptism that John preached;

38 c ómo Dios ungió a Jesús de Nazaret con el Espíritu Santo y con poder, el cual anduvo haciendo bien y sanando a todos los oprimidos por el diablo; porque Dios estaba con El.

Jesus who from Nazareth -- how God did anoint him with the Holy Spirit and power; who went through, doing good, and healing all those oppressed by the devil, because God was with him;

39 “ Nosotros somos testigos de todas las cosas que hizo en la tierra de los Judíos y en Jerusalén. Y también Le dieron muerte, colgándolo en una cruz (un madero).

and we -- we are witnesses of all things that he did, both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem, -- whom they did slay, having hanged upon a tree.

40 P ero Dios Lo resucitó al tercer día e hizo que se manifestara,

`This one God did raise up the third day, and gave him to become manifest,

41 n o a todo el pueblo, sino a los testigos que fueron escogidos de antemano por Dios, es decir, a nosotros que comimos y bebimos con El después que resucitó de los muertos.

not to all the people, but to witnesses, to those having been chosen before by God -- to us who did eat with, and did drink with him, after his rising out of the dead;

42 “ Y nos mandó predicar al pueblo, y testificar con toda solemnidad que este Jesús es el que Dios ha designado como Juez de los vivos y de los muertos.

and he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify fully that it is he who hath been ordained by God judge of living and dead --

43 D e El dan testimonio todos los profetas, de que por Su nombre, todo el que cree en El recibe el perdón de los pecados.” Los Gentiles Reciben el Espíritu Santo

to this one do all the prophets testify, that through his name every one that is believing in him doth receive remission of sins.'

44 M ientras Pedro aún hablaba estas palabras, el Espíritu Santo cayó sobre todos los que escuchaban el mensaje (la palabra).

While Peter is yet speaking these sayings, the Holy spirit fell upon all those hearing the word,

45 T odos los creyentes que eran de la circuncisión (Judíos Cristianos), que habían venido con Pedro, se quedaron asombrados, porque el don del Espíritu Santo había sido derramado también sobre los Gentiles,

and those of the circumcision believing were astonished -- as many as came with Peter -- because also upon the nations the gift of the Holy Spirit hath been poured out,

46 p ues los oían hablar en lenguas y exaltar a Dios. Entonces Pedro dijo:

for they were hearing them speaking with tongues and magnifying God.

47 “ ¿Puede acaso alguien negar el agua para que sean bautizados éstos que han recibido el Espíritu Santo lo mismo que nosotros ?”

Then answered Peter, `The water is any one able to forbid, that these may not be baptized, who the Holy Spirit did receive -- even as also we?'

48 Y mandó que fueran bautizados en el nombre de Jesucristo. Entonces le pidieron que se quedara con ellos unos días.

he commanded them also to be baptized in the name of the Lord; then they besought him to remain certain days.
