1 N o reprendas con dureza al anciano, sino, más bien, exhórta lo como a padre; a los más jóvenes, como a hermanos,

An aged person thou mayest not rebuke, but be entreating as a father; younger persons as brethren;

aged women as mothers, younger ones as sisters -- in all purity;

3 H onra a las viudas que en verdad son viudas.

honour widows who are really widows;

4 P ero si alguna viuda tiene hijos o nietos, que aprendan éstos primero a mostrar piedad para con su propia familia y a recompensar a sus padres, porque esto es agradable delante de Dios.

and if any widow have children or grandchildren, let them learn first to their own house to show piety, and to give back a recompense to the parents, for this is right and acceptable before God.

5 S in embargo la que en verdad es viuda y se ha quedado sola, tiene puesta su esperanza en Dios y continúa en súplicas y oraciones noche y día.

And she who is really a widow and desolate, hath hoped upon God, and doth remain in the supplications and in the prayers night and day,

6 P ero la que se entrega a los placeres desenfrenados, aun viviendo, está muerta.

and she who is given to luxury, living -- hath died;

7 O rdena también estas cosas, para que sean irreprochables.

and these things charge, that they may be blameless;

8 P ero si alguien no provee para los suyos, y especialmente para los de su casa, ha negado la fe y es peor que un incrédulo.

and if any one for his own -- and especially for those of the household -- doth not provide, the faith he hath denied, and than an unbeliever he is worse.

9 Q ue la viuda sea puesta en la lista sólo si no es menor de sesenta años, habiendo sido la esposa de un solo marido,

A widow -- let her not be enrolled under sixty years of age, having been a wife of one husband,

10 q ue tenga testimonio de buenas obras; si ha criado hijos, si ha mostrado hospitalidad a extraños, si ha lavado los pies de los santos, si ha ayudado a los afligidos y si se ha consagrado (dedicado) a toda buena obra.

in good works being testified to: if she brought up children, if she entertained strangers, if saints' feet she washed, if those in tribulation she relieved, if every good work she followed after;

11 P ero rehúsa poner en la lista a viudas más jóvenes, porque cuando sienten deseos sensuales, contrarios a Cristo, se quieren casar,

and younger widows be refusing, for when they may revel against the Christ, they wish to marry,

12 i ncurriendo así en condenación, por haber abandonado su promesa anterior.

having judgment, because the first faith they did cast away,

13 Y además, aprenden a estar ociosas, yendo de casa en casa. Y no sólo son ociosas, sino también charlatanas y entremetidas, hablando de cosas que no son dignas.

and at the same time also, they learn idle, going about the houses; and not only idle, but also tattlers and busybodies, speaking the things they ought not;

14 P or tanto, quiero que las viudas más jóvenes se casen, que tengan hijos, que cuiden su casa y no den al adversario ocasión de reproche.

I wish, therefore, younger ones to marry, to bear children, to be mistress of the house, to give no occasion to the opposer to reviling;

15 P ues algunas ya se han apartado para seguir a Satanás.

for already certain did turn aside after the Adversary.

16 S i alguna creyente tiene viudas en la familia, que las mantenga, y que la iglesia no lleve la carga para que pueda ayudar a las que en verdad son viudas. Otras Recomendaciones

If any believing man or believing woman have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the assembly be burdened, that those really widows it may relieve.

17 L os ancianos que gobiernan bien sean considerados dignos de doble honor, principalmente los que trabajan en la predicación y en la enseñanza.

The well-leading elders of double honour let them be counted worthy, especially those labouring in word and teaching,

18 P orque la Escritura dice: “ No pondras bozal al buey cuando trilla,” y: El obrero es digno de su salario.

for the Writing saith, `An ox treading out thou shalt not muzzle,' and `Worthy the workman of his reward.'

19 N o admitas acusación contra un anciano, a menos de que haya dos o tres testigos.

Against an elder an accusation receive not, except upon two or three witnesses.

20 A los que continúan en pecado, repréndelos en presencia de todos para que los demás tengan temor de pecar.

Those sinning, reprove before all, that the others also may have fear;

21 T e encargo solemnemente en la presencia de Dios y de Cristo Jesús y de Sus ángeles escogidos, que conserves estos principios sin prejuicios, no haciendo nada con espíritu de parcialidad.

I testify fully, before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the choice messengers, that these things thou mayest keep, without forejudging, doing nothing by partiality.

22 N o impongas las manos sobre nadie con ligereza, compartiendo así la responsabilidad por los pecados de otros; guárdate libre de pecado.

Be laying hands quickly on no one, nor be having fellowship with sins of others; be keeping thyself pure;

23 Y a no bebas agua sola, sino usa un poco de vino por causa de tu estómago y de tus frecuentes enfermedades.

no longer be drinking water, but a little wine be using, because of thy stomach and of thine often infirmities;

24 L os pecados de algunos hombres ya son evidentes, yendo delante de ellos al juicio; pero a otros, sus pecados los siguen.

of certain men the sins are manifest beforehand, leading before to judgment, and certain also they follow after;

25 D e la misma manera, las buenas obras son evidentes, y las que no lo son no se pueden ocultar.

in like manner also the right works are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise are not able to be hid.
