1 Y hubo hambre en la tierra, además del hambre anterior que había ocurrido durante los días de Abraham. Entonces Isaac se fue a Gerar, donde vivía Abimelec, rey de los Filisteos.

And there is a famine in the land, besides the first famine which was in the days of Abraham, and Isaac goeth unto Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

2 E l Señor se le apareció a Isaac y le dijo: “No desciendas a Egipto. Quédate en la tierra que Yo te diré.

And Jehovah appeareth unto him, and saith, `Go not down towards Egypt, tabernacle in the land concerning which I speak unto thee,

3 R eside en esta tierra y Yo estaré contigo y te bendeciré, porque a ti y a tu descendencia daré todas estas tierras, y confirmaré contigo el juramento que juré a tu padre Abraham.

sojourn in this land, and I am with thee, and bless thee, for to thee and to thy seed I give all these lands, and I have established the oath which I have sworn to Abraham thy father;

4 M ultiplicaré tu descendencia como las estrellas del cielo, y daré a tu descendencia todas estas tierras. En tu simiente serán bendecidas todas las naciones de la tierra,

and I have multiplied thy seed as stars of the heavens, and I have given to thy seed all these lands; and blessed themselves in thy seed have all nations of the earth;

5 p orque Abraham Me obedeció, y guardó Mi ordenanza, Mis mandamientos, Mis estatutos y Mis leyes.” Isaac Engaña a Abimelec

because that Abraham hath hearkened to My voice, and keepeth My charge, My commands, My statutes, and My laws.'

6 H abitó, pues, Isaac en Gerar.

And Isaac dwelleth in Gerar;

7 C uando los hombres de aquel lugar le preguntaron acerca de su mujer, Isaac dijo: “Es mi hermana ”; porque tenía temor de decir: “Es mi mujer.” Porque pensaba: “no sea que los hombres del lugar me maten por causa de Rebeca, pues es de hermosa apariencia.”

and men of the place ask him of his wife, and he saith, `She my sister:' for he hath been afraid to say, `My wife -- lest the men of the place kill me for Rebekah, for she of good appearance.'

8 Y sucedió que después de haber estado ellos allí largo tiempo, Abimelec, rey de los Filisteos, miró por una ventana y vio a Isaac acariciando a Rebeca su mujer.

And it cometh to pass, when the days have been prolonged to him there, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looketh through the window, and seeth, and lo, Isaac is playing with Rebekah his wife.

9 E ntonces Abimelec llamó a Isaac, y le dijo: “Ciertamente ella es tu mujer. ¿Por qué, pues, dijiste: ‘Es mi hermana’?” “Porque me dije: ‘No sea que yo muera por causa de ella’” respondió Isaac.

And Abimelech calleth for Isaac, and saith, `Lo, she surely thy wife; and how hast thou said, She my sister?' and Isaac saith unto him, `Because I said, Lest I die for her.'

10 Y Abimelec dijo: “¿Qué es esto que nos has hecho ? Porque alguien del pueblo fácilmente pudiera haberse acostado con tu mujer, y hubieras traído culpa sobre nosotros.”

And Abimelech saith, `What this thou hast done to us? as a little thing one of the people had lain with thy wife, and thou hadst brought upon us guilt;'

11 A bimelec ordenó a todo el pueblo: “El que toque a este hombre o a su mujer, de cierto morirá.” Bendición de Dios sobre Isaac

and Abimelech commandeth all the people, saying, `He who cometh against this man or against his wife, dying doth die.'

12 I saac sembró en aquella tierra, y cosechó aquel año ciento por uno. Y el Señor lo bendijo.

And Isaac soweth in that land, and findeth in that year a hundredfold, and Jehovah blesseth him;

13 I saac se enriqueció, y siguió engrandeciéndose hasta que llegó a ser muy poderoso,

and the man is great, and goeth on, going on and becoming great, till that he hath been very great,

14 p orque tenía rebaños de ovejas, vacas y mucha servidumbre, y los Filisteos le tenían envidia.

and he hath possession of a flock, and possession of a herd, and an abundant service; and the Philistines envy him,

15 T odos los pozos que los siervos de su padre habían cavado en los días de su padre Abraham, los Filisteos los cegaron llenándolos de tierra.

and all the wells which his father's servants digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines have stopped them, and fill them with dust.

16 E ntonces Abimelec dijo a Isaac: “Vete de aquí, porque tú eres mucho más poderoso que nosotros.”

And Abimelech saith unto Isaac, `Go from us; for thou hast become much mightier than we;'

17 I saac se fue de allí, acampó en el Valle de Gerar y se estableció (habitó) allí.

and Isaac goeth from thence, and encampeth in the valley of Gerar, and dwelleth there;

18 I saac volvió a cavar los pozos de agua que habían sido cavados en los días de su padre Abraham, porque los Filisteos los habían cegado después de la muerte de Abraham, y les puso los mismos nombres que su padre les había puesto.

and Isaac turneth back, and diggeth the wells of water which they digged in the days of Abraham his father, which the Philistines do stop after the death of Abraham, and he calleth to them names according to the names which his father called them.

19 C uando los siervos de Isaac cavaron en el valle encontraron allí un pozo de aguas vivas.

And Isaac's servants dig in the valley, and find there a well of living water,

20 E ntonces riñeron los pastores de Gerar con los pastores de Isaac, diciendo: “El agua es nuestra.” Por eso él llamó al pozo Esek (Riña), porque habían reñido con él.

and shepherds of Gerar strive with shepherds of Isaac, saying, `The water ours;' and he calleth the name of the well `Strife,' because they have striven habitually with him;

21 C avaron otro pozo, y también riñeron por él; por eso lo llamó Sitna (Enemistad).

and they dig another well, and they strive also for it, and he calleth its name `Hatred.'

22 Y se trasladó de allí y cavó otro pozo, y no riñeron por él; por eso lo llamó Rehobot (Lugares amplios), porque dijo: “Al fin el Señor ha hecho lugar para nosotros, y prosperaremos en la tierra.”

And he removeth from thence, and diggeth another well, and they have not striven for it, and he calleth its name Enlargements, and saith, `For -- now hath Jehovah given enlargement to us, and we have been fruitful in the land.'

23 D e allí Isaac subió a Beerseba.

And he goeth up from thence Beer-Sheba,

24 E l Señor se le apareció aquella misma noche y le dijo: “Yo soy el Dios de tu padre Abraham; No temas, porque Yo estoy contigo. Y te bendeciré y multiplicaré tu descendencia, Por amor de Mi siervo Abraham.”

and Jehovah appeareth unto him during that night, and saith, `I the God of Abraham thy father, fear not, for I with thee, and have blessed thee, and have multiplied thy seed, because of Abraham My servant;'

25 Y allí Isaac construyó un altar e invocó el nombre del Señor y plantó allí su tienda; y allí abrieron los siervos de Isaac un pozo. Pacto entre Isaac y Abimelec

and he buildeth there an altar, and preacheth in the name of Jehovah, and stretcheth out there his tent, and there Isaac's servants dig a well.

26 E ntonces Abimelec vino a él desde Gerar, con su consejero Ahuzat y con Ficol, jefe de su ejército.

And Abimelech hath gone unto him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phichol head of his host;

27 Y les dijo Isaac: “¿Por qué han venido a mí, ustedes que me odian y me han echado de entre ustedes ?”

and Isaac saith unto them, `Wherefore have ye come unto me, and ye have hated me, and ye send me away from you?'

28 Y ellos respondieron: “Vemos claramente que el Señor ha estado contigo, así es que dijimos: ‘Haya ahora un juramento entre nosotros, entre tú y nosotros, y hagamos un pacto contigo,

And they say, `We have certainly seen that Jehovah hath been with thee, and we say, `Let there be, we pray thee, an oath between us, between us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;

29 d e que no nos harás ningún mal, así como nosotros no te hemos tocado y sólo te hemos hecho bien, y te hemos despedido en paz. Tú eres ahora el bendito del Señor.’”

do not evil with us, as we have not touched thee, and as we have only done good with thee, and send thee away in peace; thou now blessed of Jehovah.'

30 E ntonces él les preparó un banquete, y comieron y bebieron.

And he maketh for them a banquet, and they eat and drink,

31 M uy de mañana se levantaron y se hicieron mutuo juramento. Entonces Isaac los despidió y ellos se fueron de su lado en paz.

and rise early in the morning, and swear one to another, and Isaac sendeth them away, and they go from him in peace.

32 A quel mismo día los siervos de Isaac llegaron y le informaron acerca del pozo que habían cavado, y le dijeron: “Hemos hallado agua.”

And it cometh to pass during that day that Isaac's servants come and declare to him concerning the circumstances of the well which they have digged, and say to him, `We have found water;'

33 Y lo llamó Seba (Juramento). Por eso el nombre de la ciudad es Beerseba (Pozo del Juramento) hasta hoy.

and he calleth it Shebah, therefore the name of the city Beer-Sheba, unto this day.

34 C uando Esaú tenía cuarenta años, se casó con Judit, hija de Beeri, el Hitita, y con Basemat, hija de Elón, el Hitita;

And Esau is a son of forty years, and he taketh a wife, Judith, daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath, daughter of Elon the Hittite,

35 y ellas hicieron la vida insoportable para Isaac y Rebeca.

and they are a bitterness of spirit to Isaac and to Rebekah.
