1 T oda la congregación de los Israelitas, llegaron al desierto de Zin en el mes primero; y el pueblo se quedó en Cades. Allí murió Miriam y allí la sepultaron.

And the sons of Israel come in, -- all the company -- to the wilderness of Zin, in the first month, and the people abide in Kadesh, and Miriam dieth there, and is buried there.

2 Y no había agua para la congregación; y se juntaron contra Moisés y Aarón.

And there hath been no water for the company, and they are assembled against Moses, and against Aaron,

3 E l pueblo discutió con Moisés y le dijo: “¡Ojalá hubiéramos perecido cuando nuestros hermanos murieron delante del Señor!

and the people strive with Moses, and speak, saying, `And oh that we had expired when our brethren expired before Jehovah!

4 ¿ Por qué, pues, has traído al pueblo del Señor a este desierto, para que nosotros y nuestros animales muramos aquí ?

and why have ye brought in the assembly of Jehovah unto this wilderness to die there, we and our beasts?

5 ¿ Y por qué nos hiciste subir de Egipto, para traernos a este miserable lugar? No es lugar de siembras, ni de higueras, ni de viñas, ni de granados, ni aun hay agua para beber.”

and why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to bring us in unto this evil place? no place of seed, and fig, and vine, and pomegranate; and water there is none to drink.

6 E ntonces Moisés y Aarón fueron de delante de la asamblea a la puerta de la tienda de reunión, y se postraron sobre sus rostros; y se les apareció la gloria del Señor.

And Moses and Aaron go in from the presence of the assembly unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and fall on their faces, and the honour of Jehovah is seen by them.

7 Y el Señor habló a Moisés:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

8 “ Toma la vara y reúne a la congregación, tú y tu hermano Aarón, y hablen a la peña a la vista de ellos, para que la peña dé su agua. Así sacarás para ellos agua de la peña, y beban la congregación y sus animales.”

`Take the rod, and assemble the company, thou and Aaron thy brother; and ye have spoken unto the rock before their eyes, and it hath given its water, and thou hast brought out to them water from the rock, and hast watered the company, and their beasts.'

9 T omó Moisés la vara de la presencia del Señor, tal como El se lo había ordenado;

And Moses taketh the rod from before Jehovah, as He hath commanded him,

10 y Moisés y Aarón reunieron al pueblo ante la peña. Y él les dijo: “Oigan, ahora, rebeldes. ¿Sacaremos agua de esta peña para ustedes?”

and Moses and Aaron assemble the assembly unto the front of the rock, and he saith to them, `Hear, I pray you, O rebels, from this rock do we bring out to you water?'

11 E ntonces Moisés levantó su mano y golpeó la peña dos veces con su vara, y brotó agua en abundancia, y bebió el pueblo y sus animales.

and Moses lifteth up his hand, and smiteth the rock with his rod twice; and much water cometh out, and the company drink, also their beasts.

12 Y el Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón: “Porque ustedes no Me creyeron a fin de tratarme como santo ante los ojos de los Israelitas, por tanto no conducirán a este pueblo a la tierra que les he dado.”

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, and unto Aaron, `Because ye have not believed in Me to sanctify Me before the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore ye do not bring in this assembly unto the land which I have given to them.'

13 A quéllas fueron las aguas de Meriba (Contienda) porque los Israelitas discutieron con el Señor, y El manifestó Su santidad entre ellos. Edom Rehúsa el Paso a Israel

These waters of Meribah, because the sons of Israel have `striven' with Jehovah, and He is sanctified upon them.

14 M oisés envió mensajeros desde Cades al rey de Edom, diciéndole: “Así ha dicho su hermano Israel: ‘Usted sabe todas las dificultades que nos han sobrevenido;

And Moses sendeth messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, `Thus said thy brother Israel, Thou -- thou hast known all the travail which hath found us;

15 q ue nuestros padres descendieron a Egipto, y estuvimos por largo tiempo en Egipto, y los Egipcios nos maltrataron a nosotros y a nuestros padres.

that our fathers go down to Egypt, and we dwell in Egypt many days, and the Egyptians do evil to us and to our fathers;

16 ‘ Pero cuando clamamos al Señor, El oyó nuestra voz y envió un ángel y nos sacó de Egipto. Ahora estamos en Cades, un pueblo de la frontera de tu territorio.

and we cry unto Jehovah, and He heareth our voice, and sendeth a messenger, and is bringing us out of Egypt; and lo, we in Kadesh, a city the extremity of thy border.

17 P ermítanos, por favor, pasar por su tierra. No pasaremos por campo labrado ni por viñedo; ni siquiera beberemos agua de pozo. Iremos por el camino real, sin volver a la derecha ni a la izquierda hasta que crucemos su territorio.’”

Let us pass over, we pray thee, through thy land; we pass not over through a field, or through a vineyard, nor do we drink waters of a well; the way of the king we go, we turn not aside -- right or left -- till that we pass over thy border.'

18 P ero, Edom le respondió: “Tú no pasarás por mi tierra; para que no salga yo con espada a tu encuentro.”

And Edom saith unto him, `Thou dost not pass over through me, lest with sword I come out to meet thee.'

19 E ntonces los Israelitas le contestaron: “Iremos por el camino principal, y si yo y mi ganado bebemos de su agua, entonces le pagaré su precio. Solamente déjeme pasar a pie, nada más.”

And the sons of Israel say unto him, `In the highway we go, and if of thy waters we drink -- I and my cattle -- then I have given their price; only (it is nothing) on my feet I pass over.'

20 P ero él dijo: “Tú no pasarás.” Y Edom salió a su encuentro con mucha gente y con mano fuerte.

And he saith, `Thou dost not pass over;' and Edom cometh out to meet him with much people, and with a strong hand;

21 R ehusó, pues, Edom dejar pasar a Israel por su territorio, así que Israel tuvo que desviarse. Muerte de Aarón

and Edom refuseth to suffer Israel to pass over through his border, and Israel turneth aside from off him.

22 P artiendo de Cades, toda la congregación de los Israelitas llegó al Monte Hor.

And the sons of Israel, the whole company, journey from Kadesh, and come in unto mount Hor,

23 E l Señor habló a Moisés y a Aarón en el Monte Hor, en la frontera de la tierra de Edom y les dijo:

and Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron in mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, saying,

24 “ Aarón será reunido a su pueblo, pues no entrará a la tierra que Yo he dado a los Israelitas, porque ustedes se rebelaron contra Mi orden en las aguas de Meriba.

`Aaron is gathered unto his people, for he doth not go in unto the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because that ye provoked My mouth at the waters of Meribah.

25 T oma a Aarón y a su hijo Eleazar y tráelos al Monte Hor;

`Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and cause them to go up mount Hor,

26 y quítale a Aarón sus vestidos y ponlos sobre su hijo Eleazar. Entonces Aarón será reunido a su pueblo, y morirá allí.”

and strip Aaron of his garments, and thou hast clothed them Eleazar his son, and Aaron is gathered, and doth die there.'

27 M oisés hizo tal como el Señor le ordenó, y subieron al Monte Hor ante los ojos de toda la congregación.

And Moses doth as Jehovah hath commanded, and they go up unto mount Hor before the eyes of all the company,

28 Y después que Moisés le quitó a Aarón sus vestidos y se los puso a su hijo Eleazar, Aarón murió allí sobre la cumbre del monte, y Moisés y Eleazar descendieron del monte.

and Moses strippeth Aaron of his garments, and clotheth with them Eleazar his son, and Aaron dieth there on the top of the mount; and Moses cometh down -- Eleazar also -- from the mount,

29 C uando toda la congregación vio que Aarón había muerto, toda la casa de Israel lloró a Aarón por treinta días.

and all the company see that Aaron hath expired, and they bewail Aaron thirty days -- all the house of Israel.
