1 Y después de estas cosas, le dijeron a José: “Su padre está enfermo.” Y él tomó consigo a sus dos hijos, Manasés y Efraín.

And it cometh to pass, after these things, that saith to Joseph, `Lo, thy father is sick;' and he taketh his two sons with him, Manasseh and Ephraim.

2 C uando se le avisó a Jacob: “Su hijo José ha venido a usted;” entonces Israel hizo un esfuerzo y se sentó en la cama.

And declareth to Jacob, and saith, `Lo, thy son Joseph is coming unto thee;' and Israel doth strengthen himself, and sit upon the bed.

3 Y Jacob dijo a José: “El Dios Todopoderoso se me apareció en Luz, en la tierra de Canaán. Me bendijo,

And Jacob saith unto Joseph, `God Almighty hath appeared unto me, in Luz, in the land of Canaan, and blesseth me,

4 y me dijo: ‘Yo te haré fecundo y te multiplicaré. Y haré de ti multitud de pueblos y daré esta tierra a tu descendencia después de ti en posesión perpetua.’

and saith unto me, Lo, I am making thee fruitful, and have multiplied thee, and given thee for an assembly of peoples, and given this land to thy seed after thee, a possession age-during.

5 “ Ahora pues, tus dos hijos que te nacieron en la tierra de Egipto, antes de que yo viniera a ti a Egipto, míos son. Efraín y Manasés serán míos, como lo son Rubén y Simeón.

`And now, thy two sons, who are born to thee in the land of Egypt, before my coming unto thee to Egypt, mine they; Ephraim and Manasseh, as Reuben and Simeon they are mine;

6 P ero los hijos que has tenido después de ellos, serán tuyos. Serán llamados por el nombre de sus hermanos en su heredad.

and thy family which thou hast begotten after them are thine; by the name of their brethren they are called in their inheritance.

7 E n cuanto a mí, cuando vine de Padán, Raquel se me murió en la tierra de Canaán, en el camino, cuando faltaba todavía cierta distancia para llegar a Efrata, y la sepulté allí en el camino a Efrata, esto es Belén (Casa del Pan).”

`And I -- in my coming in from Padan- Rachel hath died by me in the land of Canaan, in the way, while yet a kibrath of land to enter Ephrata, and I bury her there in the way of Ephrata, which Bethlehem.'

8 C uando Israel vio a los hijos de José, dijo: “¿Quiénes son éstos?”

And Israel seeth the sons of Joseph, and saith, `Who these?'

9 Y José respondió a su padre: “Son mis hijos, los que Dios me ha dado aquí.” “Acércalos a mí, te ruego, para que yo los bendiga,” le dijo.

and Joseph saith unto his father, `They my sons, whom God hath given to me in this;' and he saith, `Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I bless them.'

10 L os ojos de Israel estaban tan débiles por la vejez que no podía ver. Entonces José se los acercó, y él los besó y los abrazó.

And the eyes of Israel have been heavy from age, he is unable to see; and he bringeth them nigh unto him, and he kisseth them, and cleaveth to them;

11 I srael dijo a José: “Nunca esperaba ver tu rostro, y mira, Dios me ha permitido ver también a tus hijos.”

and Israel saith unto Joseph, `To see thy face I had not thought, and lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.'

12 E ntonces José los tomó de las rodillas de Jacob, y se inclinó con su rostro en tierra.

And Joseph bringeth them out from between his knees, and boweth himself on his face to the earth;

13 J osé tomó a los dos, a Efraín con la derecha, hacia la izquierda de Israel, y a Manasés con la izquierda, hacia la derecha de Israel, y se los acercó.

and Joseph taketh them both, Ephraim in his right hand towards Israel's left, and Manasseh in his left towards Israel's right, and bringeth nigh to him.

14 P ero Israel extendió su derecha y la puso sobre la cabeza de Efraín, que era el menor, y su izquierda sobre la cabeza de Manasés, cruzando a propósito sus manos, aunque Manasés era el primogénito.

And Israel putteth out his right hand, and placeth upon the head of Ephraim, who the younger, and his left hand upon the head of Manasseh; he hath guided his hands wisely, for Manasseh the first-born.

15 I srael bendijo a José, y dijo: “El Dios delante de quien anduvieron mis padres Abraham e Isaac, El Dios que ha sido mi pastor toda mi vida hasta este día,

And he blesseth Joseph, and saith, `God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked habitually: God who is feeding me from my being unto this day:

16 E l ángel que me ha rescatado de todo mal, Bendiga a estos muchachos; Y viva en ellos mi nombre, Y el nombre de mis padres Abraham e Isaac; Y crezcan para ser multitud en medio de la tierra.”

the Messenger who is redeeming me from all evil doth bless the youths, and my name is called upon them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and they increase into a multitude in the midst of the land.'

17 C uando José vio que su padre había puesto su mano derecha sobre la cabeza de Efraín, esto le desagradó. Y tomó la mano de su padre para cambiarla de la cabeza de Efraín a la cabeza de Manasés.

And Joseph seeth that his father setteth his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and it is wrong in his eyes, and he supporteth the hand of his father to turn it aside from off the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh;

18 Y José dijo a su padre: “No sea así, padre mío, pues éste es el primogénito. Pon tu mano derecha sobre su cabeza.”

and Joseph saith unto his father, `Not so, my father, for this the first-born; set thy right hand on his head.'

19 P ero su padre rehusó y dijo: “Lo sé, hijo mío, lo sé. El también llegará a ser un pueblo, y él también será grande. Sin embargo, su hermano menor será más grande que él, y su descendencia llegará a ser multitud de naciones.”

And his father refuseth, and saith, `I have known, my son, I have known; he also becometh a people, and he also is great, and yet, his young brother is greater than he, and his seed is the fulness of the nations;'

20 Y los bendijo aquel día, diciendo: “Por ti bendecirá Israel, diciendo: ‘Que Dios te haga como Efraín y Manasés.’” Así puso a Efraín antes de Manasés.

and he blesseth them in that day, saying, `By thee doth Israel bless, saying, God set thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh;' and he setteth Ephraim before Manasseh.

21 E ntonces Israel dijo a José: “Yo estoy a punto de morir, pero Dios estará con ustedes y los hará volver a la tierra de sus padres.

And Israel saith unto Joseph, `Lo, I am dying, and God hath been with you, and hath brought you back unto the land of your fathers;

22 Y o te doy una parte más que a tus hermanos, la cual tomé de mano del Amorreo con mi espada y con mi arco.”

and I -- I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I have taken out of the hand of the Amorite by my sword and by my bow.'
