1 D espués de estos acontecimientos, se dio aviso a José de que su padre estaba enfermo. Entonces él tomó consigo a sus dos hijos, Manasés y Efraín.

And it cometh to pass, after these things, that saith to Joseph, `Lo, thy father is sick;' and he taketh his two sons with him, Manasseh and Ephraim.

2 Y cuando se le hizo saber a Jacob que su hijo José venía a visitarlo, Israel hizo un esfuerzo y se sentó sobre la cama.

And declareth to Jacob, and saith, `Lo, thy son Joseph is coming unto thee;' and Israel doth strengthen himself, and sit upon the bed.

3 Y le dijo a José: «El Dios Omnipotente se me apareció en Luz, en la tierra de Canaán, y me bendijo

And Jacob saith unto Joseph, `God Almighty hath appeared unto me, in Luz, in the land of Canaan, and blesseth me,

4 c on estas palabras: “Yo haré que te reproduzcas y te multipliques. Yo haré de ti un conjunto de naciones, y esta tierra se la daré como su herencia perpetua a tu futura descendencia.”

and saith unto me, Lo, I am making thee fruitful, and have multiplied thee, and given thee for an assembly of peoples, and given this land to thy seed after thee, a possession age-during.

5 E n cuanto a tus dos hijos, Efraín y Manasés, que te nacieron en la tierra de Egipto antes de que yo viniera a ti a la tierra de Egipto, son míos; son como mis hijos Rubén y Simeón.

`And now, thy two sons, who are born to thee in the land of Egypt, before my coming unto thee to Egypt, mine they; Ephraim and Manasseh, as Reuben and Simeon they are mine;

6 L os que engendres después de ellos serán tuyos, pero se les conocerá en sus herencias por el nombre de sus hermanos.

and thy family which thou hast begotten after them are thine; by the name of their brethren they are called in their inheritance.

7 C uando yo venía de Padán, en el camino se me murió Raquel en la tierra de Canaán, como a media legua de distancia en dirección a Efrata; y allí, en el camino de Efrata, que es Belén, la sepulté.»

`And I -- in my coming in from Padan- Rachel hath died by me in the land of Canaan, in the way, while yet a kibrath of land to enter Ephrata, and I bury her there in the way of Ephrata, which Bethlehem.'

8 E n ese momento vio Israel a los hijos de José, y dijo: «Y éstos, ¿quiénes son?»

And Israel seeth the sons of Joseph, and saith, `Who these?'

9 Y José le respondió a su padre: «Son los hijos que Dios me ha dado aquí.» Entonces Israel le dijo: «Por favor, acércalos a mí, para que los bendiga.»

and Joseph saith unto his father, `They my sons, whom God hath given to me in this;' and he saith, `Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I bless them.'

10 T an pesados tenía Israel los ojos por la vejez, que ya no podía ver. Así que Israel los hizo acercarse a él, y entonces los besó y los abrazó.

And the eyes of Israel have been heavy from age, he is unable to see; and he bringeth them nigh unto him, and he kisseth them, and cleaveth to them;

11 Y le dijo a José: «Ya no esperaba volver a verte, y sin embargo Dios me ha permitido ver también a tu descendencia.»

and Israel saith unto Joseph, `To see thy face I had not thought, and lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.'

12 J osé sacó a sus hijos de entre sus rodillas, y se inclinó hasta el suelo;

And Joseph bringeth them out from between his knees, and boweth himself on his face to the earth;

13 l uego tomó a los dos y los acercó a su padre. Puso a Efraín a su derecha, que era la izquierda de Israel, y a Manasés a su izquierda, que era la derecha de Israel.

and Joseph taketh them both, Ephraim in his right hand towards Israel's left, and Manasseh in his left towards Israel's right, and bringeth nigh to him.

14 E ntonces Israel extendió su mano derecha y, aunque Manasés era el primogénito, la puso adrede sobre la cabeza de Efraín, que era el menor, y su mano izquierda sobre la cabeza de Manasés.

And Israel putteth out his right hand, and placeth upon the head of Ephraim, who the younger, and his left hand upon the head of Manasseh; he hath guided his hands wisely, for Manasseh the first-born.

15 B endijo entonces a José con estas palabras: «Que el Dios en cuya presencia anduvieron mis padres Abrahán e Isaac, el Dios que me ha guiado toda mi vida y hasta el día de hoy,

And he blesseth Joseph, and saith, `God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked habitually: God who is feeding me from my being unto this day:

16 e l Ángel que me libra de todo mal, bendiga a estos jóvenes. Que mi nombre sea recordado por medio de ellos, junto con el nombre de mis padres Abrahán e Isaac. Y que se multipliquen grandemente en medio de la tierra.»

the Messenger who is redeeming me from all evil doth bless the youths, and my name is called upon them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and they increase into a multitude in the midst of the land.'

17 A l ver José que su padre ponía la mano derecha sobre la cabeza de Efraín, se disgustó y bruscamente tomó la mano de su padre para cambiarla de la cabeza de Efraín a la cabeza de Manasés,

And Joseph seeth that his father setteth his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and it is wrong in his eyes, and he supporteth the hand of his father to turn it aside from off the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh;

18 m ientras le decía a su padre: «¡Así no, padre mío! ¡Éste es el primogénito! ¡Pon tu mano derecha sobre su cabeza!»

and Joseph saith unto his father, `Not so, my father, for this the first-born; set thy right hand on his head.'

19 P ero su padre no quiso hacerlo así, sino que dijo: «Ya lo sé, hijo mío; ya lo sé. También él llegará a ser un pueblo, y también será engrandecido. Sin embargo, su hermano menor será más grande que él, y su descendencia formará una multitud de naciones.»

And his father refuseth, and saith, `I have known, my son, I have known; he also becometh a people, and he also is great, and yet, his young brother is greater than he, and his seed is the fulness of the nations;'

20 E se día Israel los bendijo con estas palabras: «Cuando Israel bendiga, dirá en tu nombre: “Que Dios haga contigo como hizo con Efraín y Manasés.”» Y puso a Efraín antes de Manasés.

and he blesseth them in that day, saying, `By thee doth Israel bless, saying, God set thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh;' and he setteth Ephraim before Manasseh.

21 L uego, Israel le dijo a José: «Como puedes ver, me estoy muriendo. Pero Dios estará con ustedes, y los hará volver a la tierra de sus antepasados.

And Israel saith unto Joseph, `Lo, I am dying, and God hath been with you, and hath brought you back unto the land of your fathers;

22 A ti te he dado una porción mayor que a tus hermanos, porción que con mi espada y con mi arco les arrebaté a los amorreos.»

and I -- I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I have taken out of the hand of the Amorite by my sword and by my bow.'
