1 M iren cuánto nos ama el Padre, que nos ha concedido ser llamados hijos de Dios. Y lo somos. El mundo no nos conoce, porque no lo conoció a él.

See ye what love the Father hath given to us, that children of God we may be called; because of this the world doth not know us, because it did not know Him;

2 A mados, ahora somos hijos de Dios, y aún no se ha manifestado lo que hemos de ser. Pero sabemos que, cuando él se manifieste, seremos semejantes a él porque lo veremos tal como él es.

beloved, now, children of God are we, and it was not yet manifested what we shall be, and we have known that if he may be manifested, like him we shall be, because we shall see him as he is;

3 Y todo aquel que tiene esta esperanza en él, se purifica a sí mismo, así como él es puro.

and every one who is having this hope on him, doth purify himself, even as he is pure.

4 T odo aquel que comete pecado, quebranta también la ley, pues el pecado es quebrantamiento de la ley.

Every one who is doing the sin, the lawlessness also he doth do, and the sin is the lawlessness,

5 Y ustedes saben que él apareció para quitar nuestros pecados, y en él no hay pecado.

and ye have known that he was manifested that our sins he may take away, and sin is not in him;

6 T odo aquel que permanece en él, no peca; todo aquel que peca, no lo ha visto, ni lo ha conocido.

every one who is remaining in him doth not sin; every one who is sinning, hath not seen him, nor known him.

7 H ijitos, que nadie los engañe, el que hace justicia es justo, así como él es justo.

Little children, let no one lead you astray; he who is doing the righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous,

8 E l que practica el pecado es del diablo, porque el diablo peca desde el principio. Para esto se ha manifestado el Hijo de Dios: para deshacer las obras del diablo.

he who is doing the sin, of the devil he is, because from the beginning the devil doth sin; for this was the Son of God manifested, that he may break up the works of the devil;

9 T odo aquel que ha nacido de Dios no practica el pecado, porque la simiente de Dios permanece en él, y no puede pecar, porque ha nacido de Dios.

every one who hath been begotten of God, sin he doth not, because his seed in him doth remain, and he is not able to sin, because of God he hath been begotten.

10 E n esto se manifiestan los hijos de Dios, y los hijos del diablo: todo aquel que no hace justicia, ni ama a su hermano, tampoco es de Dios.

In this manifest are the children of God, and the children of the devil; every one who is not doing righteousness, is not of God, and he who is not loving his brother,

11 É ste es el mensaje que ustedes han oído desde el principio: Que nos amemos unos a otros.

because this is the message that ye did hear from the beginning, that we may love one another,

12 N o como Caín, que era del maligno y mató a su hermano. ¿Y por qué lo mató? Porque sus obras eran malas, y las de su hermano eran justas.

not as Cain -- of the evil one he was, and he did slay his brother, and wherefore did he slay him? because his works were evil, and those of his brother righteous.

13 H ermanos míos, no se extrañen si el mundo los odia.

Do not wonder, my brethren, if the world doth hate you;

14 E n esto sabemos que hemos pasado de la muerte a la vida: en que amamos a los hermanos. El que no ama a su hermano, permanece en la muerte.

we -- we have known that we have passed out of the death to the life, because we love the brethren; he who is not loving the brother doth remain in the death.

15 T odo aquel que odia a su hermano es homicida, y ustedes saben que ningún homicida tiene vida eterna permanente en él.

Every one who is hating his brother -- a man-killer he is, and ye have known that no man-killer hath life age-during in him remaining,

16 E n esto hemos conocido el amor: en que él dio su vida por nosotros. Así también nosotros debemos dar nuestra vida por los hermanos.

in this we have known the love, because he for us his life did lay down, and we ought for the brethren the lives to lay down;

17 P ero ¿cómo puede habitar el amor de Dios en aquel que tiene bienes de este mundo y ve a su hermano pasar necesidad, y le cierra su corazón?

and whoever may have the goods of the world, and may view his brother having need, and may shut up his bowels from him -- how doth the love of God remain in him?

18 H ijitos míos, no amemos de palabra ni de lengua, sino de hecho y en verdad.

My little children, may we not love in word nor in tongue, but in word and in truth!

19 Y en esto sabemos que somos de la verdad, y aseguraremos nuestro corazón delante de él,

and in this we know that of the truth we are, and before Him we shall assure our hearts,

20 p ues si nuestro corazón nos reprende, Dios es mayor que nuestro corazón, y él sabe todas las cosas.

because if our heart may condemn -- because greater is God than our heart, and He doth know all things.

21 A mados, si nuestro corazón no nos reprende, confianza tenemos en Dios,

Beloved, if our heart may not condemn us, we have boldness toward God,

22 y recibiremos de él todo lo que le pidamos, porque obedecemos sus mandamientos, y hacemos las cosas que le son agradables.

and whatever we may ask, we receive from Him, because His commands we keep, and the things pleasing before Him we do,

23 É ste es su mandamiento: Que creamos en el nombre de su Hijo Jesucristo, y nos amemos unos a otros como Dios nos lo ha mandado.

and this is His command, that we may believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and may love one another, even as He did give command to us,

24 E l que obedece sus mandamientos, permanece en Dios, y Dios en él. En esto sabemos que él permanece en nosotros: por el Espíritu que él nos ha dado.

and he who is keeping His commands, in Him he doth remain, and He in him; and in this we know that He doth remain in us, from the Spirit that He gave us.
