1 L os fariseos y los saduceos se acercaron a Jesús para ponerlo a prueba, y le pidieron que les mostrara una señal del cielo.

And the Pharisees and Sadducees having come, tempting, did question him, to shew to them a sign from the heaven,

2 P ero él les dijo: «Al llegar la noche, ustedes dicen: “Va a hacer buen tiempo, porque el cielo está rojizo.”

and he answering said to them, `Evening having come, ye say, Fair weather, for the heaven is red,

3 P or la mañana, ustedes dicen: “Hoy habrá tempestad, porque el cielo está rojizo y nublado.” ¡Bien que saben distinguir el aspecto del cielo, pero no pueden distinguir las señales de los tiempos!

and at morning, Foul weather to-day, for the heaven is red -- gloomy; hypocrites, the face of the heavens indeed ye do know to discern, but the signs of the times ye are not able!

4 L a generación mala y adúltera demanda una señal, pero no recibirá más señal que la del profeta Jonás.» Y los dejó y se fue. La levadura de los fariseos

`A generation evil and adulterous doth seek a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet;' and having left them he went away.

5 L os discípulos llegaron al otro lado, pero se olvidaron de llevar pan.

And his disciples having come to the other side, forgot to take loaves,

6 E n eso, Jesús les dijo: «Abran los ojos y cuídense de la levadura de los fariseos y de los saduceos.»

and Jesus said to them, `Beware, and take heed of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees;'

7 E llos comentaban entre sí: «Dice esto porque no trajimos pan.»

and they were reasoning in themselves, saying, `Because we took no loaves.'

8 P ero Jesús se dio cuenta y les dijo: «Hombres de poca fe. ¿Por qué discuten entre ustedes que no tienen pan?

And Jesus having known, said to them, `Why reason ye in yourselves, ye of little faith, because ye took no loaves?

9 ¿ Todavía no entienden, ni se acuerdan de los cinco panes entre cinco mil hombres, y cuántas cestas recogieron?

do ye not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many hand-baskets ye took up?

10 ¿ Ni de los siete panes entre cuatro mil, y cuántas canastas recogieron?

nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

11 ¿ Cómo es que no entienden? Si les dije que se cuidaran de la levadura de los fariseos y de los saduceos, no fue por el pan.»

how do ye not understand that I did not speak to you of bread -- to take heed of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?'

12 E ntonces ellos entendieron que no les había dicho que se cuidaran de la levadura del pan, sino de las enseñanzas de los fariseos y de los saduceos. La confesión de Pedro

Then they understood that he did not say to take heed of the leaven of the bread, but of the teaching, of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

13 A l llegar a la región de Cesarea de Filipo, Jesús preguntó a sus discípulos: «¿Quién dice la gente que es el Hijo del Hombre?»

And Jesus, having come to the parts of Cesarea Philippi, was asking his disciples, saying, `Who do men say me to be -- the Son of Man?'

14 E llos dijeron: «Unos dicen que es Juan el Bautista; otros, que es Elías; y otros, que es Jeremías o alguno de los profetas.»

and they said, `Some, John the Baptist, and others, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.'

15 É l les preguntó: «Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo?»

He saith to them, `And ye -- who do ye say me to be?'

16 S imón Pedro respondió: «¡Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente!»

and Simon Peter answering said, `Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.'

17 E ntonces Jesús le dijo: «Bienaventurado eres, Simón, hijo de Jonás, porque no te lo reveló ningún mortal, sino mi Padre que está en los cielos.

And Jesus answering said to him, `Happy art thou, Simon Bar-Jona, because flesh and blood did not reveal to thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.

18 Y yo te digo que tú eres Pedro, y sobre esta roca edificaré mi iglesia, y las puertas del Hades no podrán vencerla.

`And I also say to thee, that thou art a rock, and upon this rock I will build my assembly, and gates of Hades shall not prevail against it;

19 A ti te daré las llaves del reino de los cielos. Todo lo que ates en la tierra será atado en los cielos, y todo lo que desates en la tierra será desatado en los cielos.»

and I will give to thee the keys of the reign of the heavens, and whatever thou mayest bind upon the earth shall be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever thou mayest loose upon the earth shall be having been loosed in the heavens.'

20 E ntonces mandó a sus discípulos que no dijeran a nadie que él era Jesús, el Cristo. Jesús anuncia su muerte

Then did he charge his disciples that they may say to no one that he is Jesus the Christ.

21 D esde entonces Jesús comenzó a explicar a sus discípulos que él debía ir a Jerusalén y padecer mucho a manos de los ancianos, de los principales sacerdotes y de los escribas, y morir, y resucitar al tercer día.

From that time began Jesus to shew to his disciples that it is necessary for him to go away to Jerusalem, and to suffer many things from the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be put to death, and the third day to rise.

22 P edro lo llevó aparte y comenzó a reconvenirlo: «Señor, ¡ten compasión de ti mismo! ¡Que esto jamás te suceda!»

And having taken him aside, Peter began to rebuke him, saying, `Be kind to thyself, sir; this shall not be to thee;'

23 P ero él se volvió y le dijo a Pedro: «¡Aléjate de mi vista, Satanás! ¡Me eres un tropiezo! ¡Tú no piensas en las cosas de Dios, sino en cuestiones humanas!»

and he having turned, said to Peter, `Get thee behind me, adversary! thou art a stumbling-block to me, for thou dost not mind the things of God, but the things of men.'

24 A sus discípulos Jesús les dijo: «Si alguno quiere seguirme, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz, y sígame.

Then said Jesus to his disciples, `If any one doth will to come after me, let him disown himself, and take up his cross, and follow me,

25 P orque todo el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; y todo el que pierda su vida por causa de mí, la hallará.

for whoever may will to save his life, shall lose it, and whoever may lose his life for my sake shall find it,

26 P orque ¿de qué le sirve a uno ganarse todo el mundo, si pierde su alma? ¿O qué puede dar uno a cambio de su alma?

for what is a man profited if he may gain the whole world, but of his life suffer loss? or what shall a man give as an exchange for his life?

27 P orque el Hijo del Hombre vendrá en la gloria de su Padre con sus ángeles, y entonces pagará a cada uno conforme a sus obras.

`For, the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of his Father, with his messengers, and then he will reward each, according to his work.

28 D e cierto les digo que algunos de los que están aquí no morirán hasta que hayan visto al Hijo del Hombre venir en su reino.»

Verily I say to you, there are certain of those standing here who shall not taste of death till they may see the Son of Man coming in his reign.'
