1 S e acercaba la fiesta de los panes sin levadura, que se llama la pascua.

And the feast of the unleavened food was coming nigh, that is called Passover,

2 L os principales sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban la manera de matar a Jesús, pero le tenían miedo al pueblo.

and the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they may take him up, for they were afraid of the people.

3 E ntonces Satanás entró en Judas, uno de los doce, al que llamaban Iscariote,

And the Adversary entered into Judas, who is surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve,

4 y éste fue a hablar con los principales sacerdotes y con los jefes de la guardia, para acordar con ellos cómo les entregaría a Jesús.

and he, having gone away, spake with the chief priests and the magistrates, how he might deliver him up to them,

5 E llos se alegraron, y acordaron darle dinero.

and they rejoiced, and covenanted to give him money,

6 J udas aceptó y comenzó a buscar el mejor momento de entregarles a Jesús sin que el pueblo lo supiera. Institución de la Cena del Señor

and he agreed, and was seeking a favourable season to deliver him up to them without tumult.

7 L legó el día de los panes sin levadura, cuando es necesario sacrificar el cordero de la pascua.

And the day of the unleavened food came, in which it was behoving the passover to be sacrificed,

8 J esús envió a Pedro y a Juan con estas instrucciones: «Vayan a preparar todo para que comamos la pascua.»

and he sent Peter and John, saying, `Having gone on, prepare to us the passover, that we may eat;'

9 E llos le preguntaron: «¿Dónde quieres que hagamos los preparativos?»

and they said to him, `Where wilt thou that we might prepare?'

10 J esús les dijo: «Al entrar en la ciudad, verán ustedes a un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua; síganlo hasta la casa donde entre,

And he said to them, `Lo, in your entering into the city, there shall meet you a man, bearing a pitcher of water, follow him to the house where he doth go in,

11 y díganle al dueño de la casa: “El Maestro pregunta dónde está el aposento en donde comerá la pascua con sus discípulos.”

and ye shall say to the master of the house, The Teacher saith to thee, Where is the guest-chamber where the passover with my disciples I may eat?

12 E ntonces él les mostrará un gran aposento alto, ya dispuesto. Hagan allí los preparativos.»

and he shall show you a large upper room furnished, there make ready;'

13 L os discípulos partieron, y encontraron todo tal y como Jesús se lo había dicho, y prepararon la pascua.

and they, having gone away, found as he hath said to them, and they made ready the passover.

14 C uando llegó la hora, Jesús se sentó a la mesa, y los apóstoles se sentaron con él.

And when the hour come, he reclined (at meat), and the twelve apostles with him,

15 E ntonces les dijo: «¡Cómo he deseado comer con ustedes esta pascua, antes de que padezca!

and he said unto them, `With desire I did desire to eat this passover with you before my suffering,

16 P orque yo les digo que no volveré a comerla hasta su cumplimiento en el reino de Dios.»

for I say to you, that no more may I eat of it till it may be fulfilled in the reign of God.'

17 Y Jesús tomó la copa, dio gracias y dijo: «Tomen esto, y repártanlo entre ustedes;

And having taken a cup, having given thanks, he said, `Take this and divide to yourselves,

18 p orque yo les digo que no volveré a beber del fruto de la vid hasta que venga el reino de Dios.»

for I say to you that I may not drink of the produce of the vine till the reign of God may come.'

19 L uego tomó el pan, lo partió, dio gracias y les dio, al tiempo que decía: «Esto es mi cuerpo, que por ustedes es entregado; hagan esto en memoria de mí.»

And having taken bread, having given thanks, he brake and gave to them, saying, `This is my body, that for you is being given, this do ye -- to remembrance of me.'

20 D e igual manera, después de haber cenado tomó la copa y les dijo: «Esta copa es el nuevo pacto en mi sangre, que por ustedes va a ser derramada.

In like manner, also, the cup after the supping, saying, `This cup the new covenant in my blood, that for you is being poured forth.

21 P ero sepan que la mano del que me va a traicionar está sobre esta mesa, conmigo.

`But, lo, the hand of him delivering me up with me on the table,

22 A decir verdad, el Hijo del Hombre va, según lo que está determinado; pero ¡ay de aquél que lo va a traicionar!»

and indeed the Son of Man doth go according to what hath been determined; but wo to that man through whom he is being delivered up.'

23 E llos comenzaron a preguntarse unos a otros, quién de ellos sería capaz de hacer esto. La grandeza en el servicio

And they began to reason among themselves, who then of them it may be, who is about to do this thing.

24 A demás, los discípulos tuvieron una discusión en cuanto a quién de ellos sería el mayor.

And there happened also a strife among them -- who of them is accounted to be greater.

25 P ero Jesús les dijo: «Los reyes de las naciones se enseñorean de ellas, y los que tienen autoridad sobre ellas son llamados benefactores;

And he said to them, `The kings of the nations do exercise lordship over them, and those exercising authority upon them are called benefactors;

26 p ero entre ustedes no debe ser así, sino que el mayor entre ustedes tiene que hacerse como el menor; y el que manda tiene que actuar como el que sirve.

but ye not so, but he who is greater among you -- let him be as the younger; and he who is leading, as he who is ministering;

27 P orque, ¿quién es mayor? ¿El que se sienta a la mesa, o el que sirve? ¿Acaso no es el que se sienta a la mesa? Sin embargo, yo estoy entre ustedes como el que sirve.

for who is greater? he who is reclining (at meat), or he who is ministering? is it not he who is reclining (at meat)? and I -- I am in your midst as he who is ministering.

28 » Pero son ustedes los que han permanecido conmigo en mis pruebas.

`And ye -- ye are those who have remained with me in my temptations,

29 P or tanto, yo les asigno un reino, así como mi Padre me lo asignó a mí,

and I appoint to you, as my Father did appoint to me, a kingdom,

30 p ara que en mi reino coman y beban a mi mesa, y se sienten en tronos para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel.» Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

that ye may eat and may drink at my table, in my kingdom, and may sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.'

31 E l Señor dijo también: «Simón, Simón, Satanás ha pedido sacudirlos a ustedes como si fueran trigo;

And the Lord said, `Simon, Simon, lo, the Adversary did ask you for himself to sift as the wheat,

32 p ero yo he rogado por ti, para que no te falte la fe. Y tú, cuando hayas vuelto, deberás confirmar a tus hermanos.»

and I besought for thee, that thy faith may not fail; and thou, when thou didst turn, strengthen thy brethren.'

33 P edro le dijo: «Señor, no sólo estoy dispuesto a ir contigo a la cárcel, sino también a la muerte.»

And he said to him, `Sir, with thee I am ready both to prison and to death to go;'

34 Y Jesús le dijo: «Pedro, te aseguro que el gallo no cantará hoy antes de que tú hayas negado tres veces que me conoces.» Bolsa, alforja y espada

and he said, `I say to thee, Peter, a cock shall not crow to-day, before thrice thou mayest disown knowing me.'

35 L uego Jesús les preguntó: «Cuando los envié sin bolsa, sin alforja y sin calzado, ¿les faltó algo?» Ellos respondieron: «Nada.»

And he said to them, `When I sent you without bag, and scrip, and sandals, did ye lack anything?' and they said, `Nothing.'

36 E ntonces Jesús les dijo: «Pues ahora, el que tenga bolsa, que la tome, junto con la alforja. Y el que no tenga espada, que venda su capa y se compre una.

Then said he to them, `But, now, he who is having a bag, let him take up, and in like manner also a scrip; and he who is not having, let him sell his garment, and buy a sword,

37 P orque yo les digo que todavía se tiene que cumplir en mí aquello que está escrito: “Y fue contado entre los pecadores”. Porque lo que está escrito acerca de mí, tiene que cumplirse.»

for I say to you, that yet this that hath been written it behoveth to be fulfilled in me: And with lawless ones he was reckoned, for also the things concerning me have an end.'

38 E llos le dijeron: «Señor, ¡aquí hay dos espadas!» Y Jesús respondió: «¡Basta!» Jesús ora en Getsemaní

And they said, `Sir, lo, here two swords;' and he said to them, `It is sufficient.'

39 J esús salió y, conforme a su costumbre, se fue al monte de los Olivos. Sus discípulos lo siguieron.

And having gone forth, he went on, according to custom, to the mount of the Olives, and his disciples also followed him,

40 C uando llegó a ese lugar, Jesús les dijo: «Oren para que no caigan en tentación.»

and having come to the place, he said to them, `Pray ye not to enter into temptation.'

41 L uego, se apartó de ellos a una distancia como de un tiro de piedra, y allí se arrodilló y oró.

And he was withdrawn from them, as it were a stone's cast, and having fallen on the knees he was praying,

42 Y decía: «Padre, si quieres, haz que pase de mí esta copa; pero que no se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya.»

saying, `Father, if Thou be counselling to make this cup pass from me --; but, not my will, but Thine be done.' --

43 [ Se le apareció entonces un ángel del cielo, para fortalecerlo.

And there appeared to him a messenger from heaven strengthening him;

44 L leno de angustia, oraba con más intensidad. Y era su sudor como grandes gotas de sangre que caían hasta la tierra.]

and having been in agony, he was more earnestly praying, and his sweat became, as it were, great drops of blood falling upon the ground.

45 C uando Jesús se levantó después de orar, fue a donde estaban sus discípulos, y a causa de la tristeza los halló durmiendo.

And having risen up from the prayer, having come unto the disciples, he found them sleeping from the sorrow,

46 L es dijo: «¿Por qué duermen? ¡Levántense y oren para que no caigan en tentación!» Arresto de Jesús

and he said to them, `Why do ye sleep? having risen, pray that ye may not enter into temptation.'

47 M ientras Jesús estaba hablando, se hizo presente una turba, al frente de la cual iba Judas, que era uno de los doce y que se acercó a Jesús para besarlo.

And while he is speaking, lo, a multitude, and he who is called Judas, one of the twelve, was coming before them, and he came nigh to Jesus to kiss him,

48 J esús le dijo: «Judas, ¿con un beso entregas al Hijo del Hombre?»

and Jesus said to him, `Judas, with a kiss the Son of Man dost thou deliver up?'

49 C uando los que estaban con él se dieron cuenta de lo que pasaba, le dijeron: «Señor, ¿echamos mano a la espada?»

And those about him, having seen what was about to be, said to him, `Sir, shall we smite with a sword?'

50 U no de ellos hirió a un siervo del sumo sacerdote, y le cortó la oreja derecha.

And a certain one of them smote the servant of the chief priest, and took off his right ear,

51 P ero Jesús les dijo: «¡Basta! ¡Déjenlos!» Tocó entonces la oreja de aquel hombre, y lo sanó.

and Jesus answering said, `Suffer ye thus far,' and having touched his ear, he healed him.

52 L uego, Jesús les dijo a los principales sacerdotes, a los jefes de la guardia del templo y a los ancianos, que habían venido contra él: «¿Han venido con espadas y palos, como si fuera yo un ladrón?

And Jesus said to those having come upon him -- chief priests, and magistrates of the temple, and elders -- `As upon a robber have ye come forth, with swords and sticks?

53 T odos los días he estado con ustedes en el templo, y no me pusieron las manos encima. Pero ésta es la hora de ustedes, la hora del poder de las tinieblas.» Pedro niega a Jesús

while daily I was with you in the temple, ye did stretch forth no hands against me; but this is your hour and the power of the darkness.'

54 A quellos arrestaron a Jesús y lo llevaron a la casa del sumo sacerdote. Pedro lo seguía de lejos.

And having taken him, they led and brought him to the house of the chief priest. And Peter was following afar off,

55 E n medio del patio encendieron una fogata, y se sentaron alrededor de ella. También Pedro se sentó entre ellos.

and they having kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and having sat down together, Peter was sitting in the midst of them,

56 P ero una criada que lo vio sentado frente al fuego, se fijó en él y dijo: «Éste también estaba con él.»

and a certain maid having seen him sitting at the light, and having earnestly looked at him, she said, `And this one was with him!'

57 P edro lo negó, y dijo: «Mujer, yo no lo conozco.»

and he disowned him, saying, `Woman, I have not known him.'

58 U n poco después, otro lo vio y le dijo: «Tú también eres de ellos.» Pero Pedro le dijo: «¡Hombre, no lo soy!»

And after a little, another having seen him, said, `And thou art of them!' and Peter said, `Man, I am not.'

59 C omo una hora después, otro afirmó: «No hay duda. Éste también estaba con él, porque es galileo.»

And one hour, as it were, having intervened, a certain other was confidently affirming, saying, `Of a truth this one also was with him, for he is also a Galilean;'

60 P edro le dijo: «¡Hombre, no sé de qué hablas!» Y en ese momento, mientras Pedro aún hablaba, el gallo cantó.

and Peter said, `Man, I have not known what thou sayest;' and presently, while he is speaking, a cock crew.

61 E n ese mismo instante el Señor se volvió a ver a Pedro, y entonces Pedro se acordó de las palabras del Señor, cuando le dijo: «Antes de que el gallo cante, me negarás tres veces.»

And the Lord having turned did look on Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him -- `Before a cock shall crow, thou mayest disown me thrice;'

62 E nseguida, Pedro salió de allí y lloró amargamente. Jesús escarnecido y azotado

and Peter having gone without, wept bitterly.

63 L os hombres que custodiaban a Jesús se burlaban de él y lo golpeaban.

And the men who were holding Jesus were mocking him, beating;

64 T ambién le vendaron los ojos, le golpearon el rostro, y le decían: «Profetiza, ¿quién es el que te golpeó?»

and having blindfolded him, they were striking him on the face, and were questioning him, saying, `Prophesy who he is who smote thee?'

65 Y lo insultaban y le decían muchas otras cosas. Jesús ante el tribunal

and many other things, speaking evilly, they spake in regard to him.

66 C uando se hizo de día, se juntaron los ancianos del pueblo, los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, y llevaron a Jesús ante el tribunal y le preguntaron:

And when it became day there was gathered together the eldership of the people, chief priests also, and scribes, and they led him up to their own sanhedrim,

67 « ¿Eres tú el Cristo? ¡Responde!» Él les dijo: «Si les dijera que sí, no me lo creerían.

saying, `If thou be the Christ, tell us.' And he said to them, `If I may tell you, ye will not believe;

68 Y si les hiciera preguntas, no me responderían ni me soltarían.

and if I also question, ye will not answer me or send me away;

69 P ero a partir de este momento el Hijo del Hombre se sentará a la derecha del poder de Dios.»

henceforth, there shall be the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power of God.'

70 T odos dijeron: «¿Así que tú eres el Hijo de Dios?» Él les respondió: «Ustedes dicen que lo soy.»

And they all said, `Thou, then, art the Son of God?' and he said unto them, `Ye say, because I am;'

71 E ntonces ellos dijeron: «¿Qué más pruebas necesitamos? ¡Nosotros mismos las hemos oído de sus propios labios!»

and they said, `What need yet have we of testimony? for we ourselves did hear from his mouth.'
