1 D espués de estos acontecimientos, y sosegada ya su ira, el rey Asuero se acordó de Vasti y de lo que ella había hecho, y de la sentencia en su contra.

After these things, at the ceasing of the fury of the king Ahasuerus, he hath remembered Vashti, and that which she did, and that which hath been decreed concerning her;

2 L os criados del rey, sus cortesanos, dijeron: «Que se busquen para el rey jóvenes vírgenes y de hermosa figura.

and servants of the king, his ministers, say, `Let them seek for the king young women, virgins, of good appearance,

3 Q ue en todas las provincias del reino haya quienes seleccionen a estas jóvenes. Que éstas sean llevadas a la casa de las mujeres, en la residencia real de Susa, y puestas al cuidado de Jegay, eunuco del rey y guardián de las mujeres. Que les den sus atavíos,

and the king doth appoint inspectors in all provinces of his kingdom, and they gather every young woman -- virgin, of good appearance -- unto Shushan the palace, unto the house of the women, unto the hand of Hege eunuch of the king, keeper of the women, and to give their purifications,

4 y que reine en lugar de Vasti la doncella que a los ojos del rey resulte agraciada.» Esto le pareció bien al rey, y así se hizo.

and the young woman who is good in the eyes of the king doth reign instead of Vashti;' and the thing is good in the eyes of the king, and he doth so.

5 E n la residencia real de Susa había un judío llamado Mardoqueo. Era hijo de Yaír, hijo de Simey, hijo de Cis, del linaje de Benjamín,

A man, a Jew, there hath been in Shushan the palace, and his name Mordecai son of Jair, son of Shimei, son of Kish, a Benjamite --

6 q ue había sido llevado cautivo desde Jerusalén, junto con los que fueron llevados con Jeconías, rey de Judá, a quien Nabucodonosor llevó a la cautividad babilónica.

who had been removed from Jerusalem with the removal that was removed with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon removed --

7 M ardoqueo había criado a Jadasá, también llamada Ester, que era una joven huérfana de hermosa figura y de bello semblante. Ester era hija de su tío, y cuando su padre y su madre murieron, Mardoqueo la adoptó como hija suya.

and he is supporting Hadassah -- she Esther -- daughter of his uncle, for she hath neither father nor mother, and the young woman of fair form, and of good appearance, and at the death of her father and her mother hath Mordecai taken her to him for a daughter.

8 C uando se divulgó el mandamiento y decreto del rey, se reunió a muchas doncellas en la residencia real de Susa, que estaba a cargo de Jegay, el guardián de las mujeres. También Ester fue llevada a la casa del rey, y quedó al cuidado de Jegay.

And it cometh to pass, in the word of the king, even his law, being heard, and in many young women being gathered unto Shushan the palace, unto the hand of Hegai, that Esther is taken unto the house of the king, unto the hand of Hegai, keeper of the women,

9 C uando Jegay vio a Ester, la halló tan agradable que de inmediato ordenó que se le dieran los mejores atavíos y alimentos, y también siete damas de compañía de la casa real, y la llevó con sus doncellas a lo mejor de la casa de las mujeres.

and the young woman is good in his eyes, and she receiveth kindness before him, and he hasteneth her purifications and her portions -- to give to her, and the seven young women who are provided -- to give to her, from the house of the king, and he changeth her and her young women to a good the house of the women.

10 P ero Ester no dio a saber cuál era su pueblo ni su parentela, porque Mardoqueo le había mandado que no hablara de eso.

Esther hath not declared her people, and her kindred, for Mordecai hath laid a charge on her that she doth not declare;

11 Y cada día Mardoqueo se paseaba frente al patio de la casa reservada a las mujeres, para saber cómo se encontraba Ester, y cómo la trataban.

and during every day Mordecai is walking up and down before the court of the house of the women to know the welfare of Esther, and what is done with her.

12 A cada una de las doncellas le tocaba su turno para presentarse ante el rey Asuero. Esto era después de haberse sometido a un embellecimiento de doce meses, según era la costumbre para ellas: seis meses eran tratadas con aceite de mirra, y otros seis meses con perfumes y cosméticos femeninos.

And in the drawing nigh of the turn of each young woman to come in unto the king Ahasuerus, at the end of there being to her -- according to the law of the women -- twelve months, for so they fulfil the days of their purifications; six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with spices, and with the purifications of women,

13 S ólo entonces, y después de pedir todo lo necesario para presentarse debidamente ataviada, podía la doncella salir de la casa de las mujeres al palacio real para presentarse ante el rey.

and with this the young woman hath come in unto the king, all that she saith is given to her, to go in with her, out of the house of the women, unto the house of the king;

14 L a doncella llegaba al caer la tarde, y a la mañana siguiente volvía a la casa segunda de las mujeres, que estaba a cargo de Sasgaz, eunuco del rey y guardián de las concubinas; y no volvía la doncella a presentarse ante el rey, a menos que el rey la requiriera y fuera llamada por su nombre.

in the evening she hath gone in, and in the morning she hath turned back unto the second house of the women, unto the hand of Shaashgaz eunuch of the king, keeper of the concubines; she cometh not in any more unto the king except the king hath delighted in her, and she hath been called by name.

15 E ster, hija de Abijaíl, a quien Mardoqueo había adoptado como hija, se ganaba el favor de todos los que la veían. Y cuando le llegó su turno de presentarse ante el rey, no pidió nada más que lo que le recomendó Jegay, el eunuco del rey y guardián de las mujeres.

And in the drawing nigh of the turn of Esther -- daughter of Abihail, uncle of Mordecai, whom he had taken to him for a daughter -- to come in unto the king, she hath not sought a thing except that which Hegai eunuch of the king, keeper of the women, saith, and Esther is receiving grace in the eyes of all seeing her.

16 E ster fue llevada a la casa real en el mes décimo, que es el mes de Tebet. Era el año séptimo del reinado de Asuero cuando ella se presentó ante él.

And Esther is taken unto the king Ahasuerus, unto his royal house, in the tenth month -- it the month of Tebeth -- in the seventh year of his reign,

17 E ster se ganó el favor y la benevolencia del rey por encima de las otras doncellas, y éste amó a Ester más que a todas ellas, así que puso en su cabeza la corona real y la proclamó reina en lugar de Vasti.

and the king loveth Esther above all the women, and she receiveth grace and kindness before him above all the virgins, and he setteth a royal crown on her head, and causeth her to reign instead of Vashti,

18 L uego el rey ofreció un gran banquete a todos sus príncipes y siervos en honor de Ester, y además disminuyó tributos a las provincias y les otorgó beneficios, como corresponde a un rey. Mardoqueo denuncia una conspiración contra el rey

and the king maketh a great banquet to all his heads and his servants -- the banquet of Esther -- and a release to the provinces hath made, and giveth gifts as a memorial of the king.

19 C uando se reunió a las doncellas por segunda vez, Mardoqueo estaba sentado a la puerta del rey.

And in the virgins being gathered a second time, then Mordecai is sitting in the gate of the king;

20 E ster no había dicho de qué nación ni de qué pueblo era, pues así se lo había ordenado Mardoqueo. Y es que Ester hacía lo que Mardoqueo le ordenaba, como cuando él la educaba.

Esther is not declaring her kindred and her people, as Mordecai hath laid a charge upon her, and the saying of Mordecai Esther is doing as when she was truly with him.

21 P or esos días Bigtán y Teres, que eran eunucos del rey y guardianes de la puerta, se enojaron contra el rey Asuero y comenzaron a hacer planes contra él. Como Mardoqueo estaba sentado a la puerta del rey,

In those days, when Mordecai is sitting in the gate of the king, hath Bigthan been wroth, and Teresh, (two of the eunuchs of the king, the keepers of the threshold,) and they seek to put forth a hand on king Ahasuerus,

22 s e enteró de esos planes y se lo hizo saber a la reina Ester. Ella, a su vez, le comunicó al rey lo que Mardoqueo le había dicho.

and the thing is known to Mordecai, and he declareth to Esther the queen, and Esther speaketh to the king in the name of Mordecai,

23 A l investigarse el asunto y encontrarse que era cierto, los dos eunucos fueron mandados a la horca. Y el caso quedó registrado en el libro de las crónicas del rey.

and the thing is sought out, and found, and they are hanged both of them on a tree, and it is written in the book of the Chronicles before the king.
